Parasol Mail Order Pick of the Week
Sebadoh - III CD $11.69 15% off (Domino)
It's hard to call this the shot heard 'round the world, but in its own way, "III", along with "Slanted And Enchanted", opened up a creative way by ransacking the vestiges of the 80's American underground. The original album is a schizophrenic adventure, from Lou Barlow's plaintive songwriting to Eric Gaffney's noisier psychedelically minded etudes. Long out of print, this landmark album contains the 23-track original album on disc one and a whole album's worth of additional bonus material.
Jim's Pick: Best New Music from Scandinavia

The Works - Self-Titled CD $11.05 15% off (Subliminal Sounds)
Truly brilliant Swedish throwback psychedelic rock classicism…and that sentence was in so many ways redundant! The Works features members of Dungen's band and by the space-and-time-folding lo-fi sound of it that makes complete sense! From spine-tingling fuzzed-out epic ballads to thundering, cataclysmic psychpopsongs this album takes you back to the late 60s and early 70s (especially British psych from that era) in the same way that Elope, Hip Whips, and Motorpsycho can. Vice Magazine REVIEW: "The shroom season is here, and the Works debut album is one aural stimuli that will groove with the fungi big time! The Works come over like goggle-eyed virtuosos from some weird Scandinavian conservatoire where ergot is on the curriculum. Musically, what comes across is a love for the angst and uplift of The Who, early Floyd and The Small Faces." We’ve carried this previously but we just found an excellent source/price for it…take advantage! So not new I guess, but totally great, and one of the soundtrack’s to my Summer. Sound samples on our front page. Check out Jim's new and improved Scandinavian music page, updated every week or so. Plenty of sound samples and a bit more detail than you get in the regular update.

Numbers
PS, US Featuring members of the defunct but forever legendary bands Antarctica & Christie Front Drive, The 101 continues with the passion, beauty & creativity where their previous bands left off. Airfields, The
Laneways
PS, US The Airfields write songs for an evening bike ride through city laneways in the chilly autumn air. Their silvery, haunting melodies reverberate and remain in your ears, their rhythmic bounce bringing a spring to your footsteps. The Toronto based five piece make sparkling reverb drenched art-pop with a reverence for the jangly indie groups of the 1980s and 1960s. The 12-string, finger-picking and voice belong to David, the farfisa to Sheila, the drums to Jakob, the bass to Pete, and the reverb and feedback to Ian. This is their 2nd EP- their first for humblebee- after their self released City-State EP. Similar Artists: The Clientele, Slowdive, Razorcuts, Palaxy Tracks, My Bloody Valentine, Felt, Stereolab, The Innocence Mission.

Blood Feathers
Curse & Praise
PS, US Philadelphia winters are spitefully cold. Yet right in the heart of those frozen doldrums Ben Dickey & Drew Mills, got down to blowing on the embers of songs they had, individually & together, been incubating for some time. This prolific twosome favor each other so handsomely in tone, skill, presence & purpose that it was only natural to shake hands & make a band. Hauled along by the rhythmic engine of Quentin & Mickey of Mazarin, Dickey & Mills hatched a work of great balance & grace.

Blood Meridian

$13.75

Blood Meridian
Kick Up The Dust
PS, US Singer/songwriter Matthew Camirand is a man with a diverse rock 'n' roll history, as a former member of The Black Halos and currently the bassist in Black Mountain. Blood Meridian's debut contains twelve stunningly diverse tracks for days when the skies are slate-grey and Jim Beam is the only friend worth turning to. "In the tradition of landmarks like The Gun Club's 'Fire Of Love', Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds' 'Tender Prey', and Neil Young's 'On The Beach', 'Kick Up The Dust' defies easy categorization" - Popmatters.com.

Boat
Songs You Might Not Like
PS, US This band's keyboard & melodica tinged pop would work well being sung while waiting for rescue in the middle of the sea; a little sad but still hopeful & quite romantic in sound. Organic melodies reminiscent of Neutral Milk Hotel meet easy, flowing harmonies that take the edge off the lo-fi recording. Fans of Quasi & the Shins, take note, as you'll surely be pleased.

Boghossian, Herve/Stephane Rives/Matthieu Saladin
Plateformes
PS, US The label describes this trio in terms of 'free improvisational jazz', which is stretching terms a bit further. The three play around with the notion of feedback, long sustained sounds coming from their instruments, opening with a fiery high end tone, which abruptly, after a while, fades over into something very deep, bass endhum. Over the long course of this recording - a live one from June last year- you may recognize something that can indeed be a saxophone or a clarinet (the guitar keeps humming and is never strummed), moving carefully through all the various possibilities that feedback can offer. In a way the influence of Alvin Lucier is never far away, but what 'Plateforms' does is much less rigid in terms of concept and much more playful and within their self-chosen system of sound, indeed much more musical and open for repeated listening (something that is not always the case with Lucier's work). A fine, delicate woven work." Handsome artwork by Taylor Deupree, Boghossian also well known for his work on the Raster Noton label, as well as his own List imprint, and his previous avant-rock band.

Caseworker, The
When I was a Young King
PS, US Reference Points: Beta Band, American Analog Set, Yo La Tengo, Radar Bros., Seam. [the] caseworker's core is made up of Conor and Eimer, a man and woman who grew up in Ireland, met in Dublin, moved together to Newcastle and finally settled in San Francisco in the nineties. All the while they were falling in an out of love while forming and dissolving their previous band, Half Film. They are joined by Monte (Swell) and Will (For Stars) on When I Was A Young King. "Their brand of tunes descends from the old shoegazer movement, bands like Slow Dive and Ride, Galaxie 500 and Mazzy Star. It's simple music on the surface, verse-chorus-verse stuff, a swollen mix of fuzzy, reverberated guitars, languorous drumming, gentle bass lines, and brisk, slightly raspy vocals. But that's just the surface." -SF Weekly. "[the] caseworker extract dreariness from inside whispery, ambient pop... completely enraptured and awesomely dazed" - Rolling Stone. "weave threads of classic dream pop and indie rock for a majestically layered sound...an atmosphere both lush and florid...It's simply gorgeous." - All Music Guide. "literate, shimmering little brainy rock record for your sleepy Saturday morning" - East Bay Express (Critic's Choice). "the perfect soundtrack to all of life's rainy days and Mondays." - Foxy Digitalis.

Collectors
Galapagos
PS, US Described by some as "organic- electronic" but, despite a healthy addiction to stringed instruments & analogue synths, Tom & Benet aren't interested in limiting their sound: "Think of old cogs, sample jars, bee beards & weird Edwardian confectionary, the smell of 60s paperback crime novels, 100ft trebuchets throwing dead pianos across a field or Lawrence of Arabia on surf board & we're still no closer to describing these mavericks." RIYL: UNKLE, Radiohead.

Avatar
PS, US VINYL VERSION!!!
Subpop
LP
$11.75

Comets On Fire
Avatar
PS, US The follow-up to "Blue Cathedral" is an earthy, more accessible, and downright beautiful album. "Avatar" veers from swinging, bluesy explorations to piano-laced, progressive power balladry to pure tribalism, evoking everyone from the Allmans to Quicksilver to Procol Harem to some insane Fela/SunRa/Crazy Horse hybrid, yet remains wholly Comets On Fire. Though they play cleaner and clearer, their firepower is evident and abundant.

Daughters
Hell Songs
PS, US If you're not familiar w/ these guys, ask yourself this: Where the hell have I been? They've basically injected grind & all manners of extreme heaviness w/ a much needed dose of lube, style, & danger. This record sounds amazing. They've annihilated ear drums & impregnated teenage girls w/ the likes of The Locust, The Dillinger Escape Plan & An Albatross. Avant-garde prodigies KAYO DOT guest on this album, as if they didn't already sound like the looniest combination of guitar heroism, circus intermission music, & the bottled sweat, musk, & bravado of the Birthday Party.

Dirty on Purpose
Sleep Later for a Better Tomorrow
PS, US Four guys & a girl who craft indie-pop with beautifully lush walls-of-sound & ominous accents of distortion. Their debut EP has garnered much praise for its sweet blend of vocal harmonies with dynamic song structures that build & ebb into an overwhelming mixture, simultaneously tugging & hugging your heart.

Dog Age
Reefy Seadragon
PS, US A psychedelic pop rock jewel sounding very much like the Elephant 6 artists Apples In Stereo and Olivia Tremor Control. The production is clean, with lysergic flourishes throughout the album. At times the band sounds like Syd Barrett & at other times they evoke the ultra-sheenmelodicism of the French band Air. Their strong guitar work is laced with harpsichord, strings, and backward recordings; carefree lyrics, sometimes stream of consciousness psychedelia, reach the ear with simple yet irresistible vocal harmonies straight out of the British Isles of 1967.

Duchess Says
Noviciat Mère-perruche
PS, CANADA For Fans of: Kleenex/LiliPut, Les Georges Leningrad, Sonic Youth, The Knife, Dresden Dolls, Glass Candy, The Gossip, and general appreciators of francopop drenched in loving noise and surgical bass therapy. What we do know is that their assaultive yet instantly accessible style of what they call 'moog-rock' (surely referring to their startling, inimitable signature synth sound) has put these native francophones squarely in the spotlight of Montreal's true new music underground, where they have been honing their sound and live shows of growing legend from day one. Unbendingly independent, DIYor-die, and often verging on outright poverty in order to guard their aesthetic, the band has still generated a torrent of hype, being tipped in reverent tones by the likes of 20 Jazz Funk Greats, Nightlife MTL (numerous times), and making East Village and WFMU playlists before even having a proper release to speak of. At the outset of PopMontreal 2005 (the city's largest annual exhibition of its musical heart) Voir magazine asked festival director Dan Seligman as to 'the' Montreal band to watch this moment", to which he replied, "Duchess Says". Their performance had such ferocity that immediate comparisons were made to their friends and fellow.

Eastern Fox Squirrels
S/T
PS, US Along the way they are joined by Tom & Christina Carter (Charalambides), Dan Plonsey (a player in the company of Anthony Braxton & Eugene Chadbourne) & Jason Bill (Charlambides, also recording w/ Jack Rose.) They have bouzouki, glockenspiels, bowed banjos, weird exotic flutes & who knows what else. The results being very much like what you'd expect; experimental but w/ soft, round edges & nice, nearly ambient dirges that feel welcome but really aren't Normal.

Fiel Garvie
Caught Laughing
PS, US Signposts: Low, Sigur Ros, Mercury Rev, Björk, Stereolab. 'Caught Laughing' is the new record by the Norwich, England quintet FIEL GARVIE, and the band's second release for the Minneapolis-based WORDS ON MUSIC label. The collective has released five singles, one EP, and three albums in the decade since their formation in 1996. Produced by Geoff Allen (CAMERA OBSCURA, TEENAGE FANCLUB, BELLE & SEBASTIAN, MOGWAI) 'Caught Laughing' continues FIEL GARVIE's reformation of pop music through nine spellbinding new songs. Rather than abandoning the pop form altogether, FIEL GARVIE cunningly sidesteps its conventions with a distinctive flair and ambience that does not cloud the quintet's fluency in melodies and hooks. The album begins with the lullaby "Special Rate," whose string arrangements and whispered vocals by Anne Reekie pronounce the band as an exquisite practitioner of baroque chamber pop. Reekie's voice - often cited by critics for her poignant, unconventional delivery - is likewise not simply a lyrical conduit, but also a gateway to an enchanting, unfamiliar world of sound. "The Palace Lights," the album's first single, is a deceptively jaunty tale of seaside suicide, set to an insistent keyboard figure and borne along with the sweetest melody, designed to inveigle itself into your consciousness and stay there with a limpet-like sticking power. Mid-tempo songs like "Estimate" and "Daylight" gracefully march alongside AMERICAN ANALOG SET and YO LA TENGO, while "Air Song," the album's epic centerpiece, pulsates and loops in a manner that conjures up the work of STEREOLAB. "Dreaming is good because it outlasts us all," Reekie closes the album's second track "Estimate," and the passage is an apt account of the impressions left by this record. In 'Caught Laughing' Fiel Garvie create an enduring, hallucinogenic microcosmos inhabited by exotic, spherical keys, bashful peals of becalming guitars, subterranean basslines, and columns of percussion that announce themselves in sporadic, yet potent, intervals. 'Caught Laughing' launches Fiel Garvie into their second decade of delivering idiosyncratic pop music, and unqualifiedly continues their tradition of fearlessly flying their flag of independence. Fiel Garvie will tour Japan this summer and Italy and Spain this autumn in support of 'Caught Laughing'. The band has performed with a variety of acts including Camera Obscura, Magoo, Belly, Black Box Recorder, Muse, Deus, and The Telescopes.

Free Players
S/T
PS, US Feat. members of Finnish free-jazz pawnpins Vapaa, Kheta Hotem, Kundalini Snakes & the venerable Keijo Virtanen. An hour long set of jams more reminiscent of Floyd & the Dead than what you'd expect from Keijo's previous output. Wild guitar leads & wailing sax (nevermind the space-organ) reveals immediately what cloth this recording has been cut from.

Fresh Mowed Lawn
S/T
PS, US Incorporates the familiar power pop sound of The Sun Sawed in 1/2 w/both jazz & classical touches. Touchstones we'll mention would include Elvis Costello"s "Imperial Bedroom", Van Dyke Parks, High Llamas, The Sea & the Cake, XTC, Tears For Fears (think: "Sowing The Seeds Of Love" vibe), The Polyphonic Spree & Beulah. Fans of Sun Sawed In 1/2 will not be disappointed, either, as the musical DNA is fully embedded in the works here.

Garden
Round and Round
PS, UK Bethnal Green's quiet, community garden is a haven for Simon Lord. Once the frontman of twisted pop quartet Simian, he's now the creative force behind a new psychedelic folk project: Garden. Garden make what could loosely be described as modern folk music. Simon's ear for a good tune that served him so well during the Simian years is still in bountiful supply, as are his distinct vocals. But so too is the lateral approach to production that made Simian far more interesting than just another experimental pop act. This, in part, comes courtesy of fellow Simian conspirator, drummer and producer James Ford (lately of Mystery jets and Test Icicles fame). Garden released an ep last year on Trial and Error recordings (the label set up by Simian and friends) to much critical acclaim; "each Garden song is full of brightly-lit-sunshine morning wonders as Lord demonstrates that he has an innate sense of baroque beauty" Flux magazine"exemplary four track ep of exquisite modern folk. Never lapsing into the genre's usual formulae, Garden instead leans towards the future" Music week Now Garden have found a home on Static Caravan (also home to kindred spirits Tunng) and are ready to unleash their technicolour debut album "Round and Round". For fans of Tunng; King Creosote, Adem; Pentangle; Forest and in fact all things Fence.

Hezekiah Says You're A-Ok
PS, US Debut from Philly songwriter Raphael Cutrufello is both nuanced & swayingly graceful. Comfortable but unexpected, unabashedly beautiful & languidly unnerving.

Jab Mica Och El
Abc Hej Im Cola
PS, CANADA Modern electronic manipulation coalesces with robust and celebratory cartoon melodies on this, the debut full length release by the Danish duo, Jab Mica Och El. Jacob & Michael, the two members of Jab Mica Och El, have been involved in the experimental / art scene in Denmark for years. After a 7" released on their own label, Champion Robot, and a beautifully crafted addition to Ache's own Project Bicycle compilation (ACHE025), Jacob and Michael meticulously set forth on the construction of new expression, new ideas, and new instrumentation. Ten tracks where created with the help of many friends, including close friend to both Jab Mica and Ache, Sun Ok Papi K.O. (Sonig / Scratch Pet Land). It is evident when listening to this album the abundance of pleasure experienced during these collaborations and ultimately its creation. The finished product feels like a document of backyard gatherings of close friends armed with cold drinks, lighthearted grins, and their instruments of choice, executed with a naïve charm only the most eager of artists obtain.

Lesser Birds of Paradise
Space Between
PS, US Over the last few years, their sound has been refined to its most organic elements. Subtle experiments & arrangements, which acted as flourishes on previous releases, develop into integral muscle on the mesmeric Space Between. With emphasis on every detail, Space Between opens up secret passageways of sound in which melodies aren't so much played as naturally grown; where single notes, pump organs, xylophones, muted drums & echoing voices layer in a warm, seductive embrace. Coupled with tapestries of American Gothic narratives, sly humor, animal characters & Robert Creeley-cum-Charles Olson poetics, LBOP have created a record of lasting impression & importance.

Los Natas
El Hombre Montana
PS, US The gods of Buenos Aries burnout rock are back doing what they do best: fuzzed-out psychedelic rock jams that rival the best work Black Sabbath ever did. After five years of dabbling in the more experimental side of the psych rock genre, the boys are back. Recorded on vintage equipment straight to 2" tape, the group has created an instant classic of a new genre that can only be described as "Latin heavy psych." This means a whole new round of globetrotting.

Lowlife
San Antorium + Extras
PS, UK 15 tracks. LTM are pleased to announce further expanded CD reissues by cult dream-pop band Lowlife, who released a string of acclaimed albums between 1985 and 1995. Lowlife were formed in Grangemouth (Scotland) in 1985 when original Cocteau Twins bassist Will Heggie joined former Dead Neighbours members Craig Lorentson, Grant McDowall and Stuart Everest. Their atmospheric, moody soundscapes were often compared to New Order, Comsat Angels and - yes - the Cocteau Twins, yet the band received widespread acclaim over the course of six albumsreleased via indie label Nightshift: Rain (1985), Permanent Sleep (1986), Diminuendo (1987), Godhead (1989), San Antorium (1991) and Gush (1995). The first round of remastered CD reissues from LTM saw Lowlife praised again: "High quality re-release from avant-shoegazers. Eternity Road is an impressive, passionate collection, Bauhaus-bleak yet complex as jazz. Makes Radiohead sound like Nizlopi" (Uncut, May 2006). San Antorium is the fourth full studio album by Lowlife, and was originally released in 1991. Produced by Calum McClean, it represented further progression for the band, with a degree of attention to production and technology described as "peerless" by Melody Maker, while still at a healthy distance from the mainstream. Long unavailable, this new remaster of San Antorium also features five bonus tracks from the legendary 'black sessions' demo album, released in 1988 in a limited edition of just 250 copies.

Magic Mixture
This Is...
PS, US SPECIAL ORDER IT!!! 1968 UK heavy-psych classic, originally released on the budget Saga label. The modest cover art & relative band anonymity betray an accomplished collection of 12 original tracks, w/ solo guitar blasts & zonked harmonies a'plenty, anchored by some thunderous Hammond. A blanket of warm, hazy production makes this every bit the equal of labelmates The Five Day Week Straw People, & both nestle comfortably next to the filler-free full-lengths of 'underground' icons Second Hand, Open Mind, The Art, etc.

PS, US This is where it all began & now you can own it for the first time ever on vinyl. This debut album made waves when released just two years ago, earning the band a plethora of rave reviews & accolades, quickly propelling the band to a cult-like status in their beloved Chicago hometown. How could this album be any better? For starters, there's a bonus 7" feat. a cover of the Eisley Brothers "Turn On, Tune In, Drop Out", & 2nd it's on high-quality 180-gram vinyl.

Mullen, Geoff
Air in Pieces
PS, US Comparisons come in 2 forms: It is easy to think of the Neil Young that wrote the Dead Man soundtrack, just as it is easy to think of Keiji Haino in pure guitar exploration mode (those darker Fushitsusha moments), but it isn't musicians one thinks of when they listen to this. Instead come vacant worlds, glaciers & the near frozen ecosystems underneath them, endless skylines & silence save the sound of your own breath.

Tower of Love
PS, US Imagine a jukebox stacked w/the hits of ELO, Super Furry Animals, Pepper-era Beatles, The Beta Band, The Beach Boys, early Pink Floyd & Supertramp. Now imagine blowing that jukebox up w/a cartoon style dynamite stick & making a record from the exploded fragments of vinyl & luminescent tubing. That's a bit like what Jim Noir's debut album "Tower Of Love" sounds like. Jim played every note heard on the record, in fact if you can hit it, twang it, blow it or tinkle it, Jim can play it.

Ooberman
Carried Away
PS, UK Indie pop romantics Ooberman are proud to announce their return with a glorious summer soundtrack for 2006. Reprising their buoyant early sound, angelic Sophia Churney takes lead vocals this time. The Oobs' cult fans (just Google 'Ooberman' to find them) will find familiar painful themes wrapped into poignant blossoms of pop harmony, while the rich production asserts a new-found third album confidence. Starting out as childhood friends in the 80's, after years of eccentric recordings in obscurity they released a first single on GRAHAM COXON's Transcopic Label in 1998 followed by the legendary Shorley Wall EP on Rough Trade, voted SINGLE OF THE YEAR by The Times, Mark Radcliffe and James Dean Bradfield (Manic Street Preachers). The debut album "The Magic Treehouse" (1999) - produced by STEPHEN STREET (The Smiths, Blur, The Zutons, The Kaiser Chiefs) - brought a TOP 40 SINGLE, four Glastonbury appearances and wide mainstream coverage. Their highest critical acclaim came later for the gentle psychedelic folk of the Running Girl Mini Album (2001) and the cinematic grandeur of 2003's Hey Petrunko. "Hey Petrunko Gets better and better every time you play it, buy definitely" (Sunday Telegraph). "The production is phenomenal, washes over in wave after wave of aural bliss" (Stephen Street). "Melodic, moving album about the death of childlike innocence. Wonderful." (Rolling Stone Magazine). "Combining conventional song structures with orchestral interludes, their newly lush sound here twinkles like The Flaming Lips with The Boo Radley's quirky pop nous." (Q Magazine).

Postal Blue
Road To Happiness
PS, CANADA New EP from Brazil's Postal Blue, following their 2004 debut full length "International Breeze" on Shelflife Records. Picking up the pace from "International Breeze," "Road To Happiness" returns to the infectious, upbeat jangle pop of their 2001 Shelflife Ep "Weather Sensitive," while retaining their signature melancholic undertones and delicate vocals of singer Adriano Ribeiro. "The World Doesn't Need You" and "I Took The Love You Were Hiding," recall the chiming jangle of the Orchids and Close Lobsters, while the cello and piano of "I'm Glad You Know" evokes the elegant pop of La Buena Vida. "Road To Happiness" also features Postal Blue's first recording sung entirely in Portugese, with the shimmering "Vou Deixar Pra Depois" sounding like the Byrds filtered through Galaxie 500. For fans of The Fairways, Blueboy, The June Brides, La Buena Vida, The Orchids, The Close Lobsters, Red Sleeping Beauty, Trembling Blue Stars etc. "These Brazilian pop purists take equal parts Belle and Sebastian and Luna to come up with their own glistening sound" From Spank Fanzine.

Sachiko Kanenobu
Misora
PS, AUSTRALIA The 1972 debut album by Sachiko Kanenobu, a woman generally acknowledged as Japan's first female singer-songwriter. It's a near-perfect folk masterpiece, alternating full-bodied arrangements (produced by Harry Hosono of Yellow Magic Orchestra and Happy End) with Sachiko's lonesome guitar and pure, soaring vocals. Discovered as an precocious 18 year old in Osaka, Sachiko was signed to Japan's first ever independent record company, URC (Underground Record Club), who changed Japan's musical landscape irrevocably in the late 60s and early 70s with artists like Happy End, Folk Crusaders and Kenji Endo. Sachiko was the only female artist on this era-defining label and the very fact that she wrote and sang her own songs made her a rarity among Japanese women. But just a few months before Misora was released, Sachiko left Japan and secretly emigrated to America to marry music critic Paul Williams (Crawdaddy Magazine, Rolling Stone). She did not record again for almost a decade and didn't release another album until 1992. Instead she settled with Williams in small-town California and raised two sons. Misora was released in her absence, and, without an artist to promote it, sank without a trace. World renowned science fiction author Philip K Dick, a Williams family friend, actually encouraged Sachiko to return to music in the early 80s. He was executive producer for a single recorded in 1981, but sadly died before he could realise his ambition to produce Sachiko's return album. Still, Sachiko was inspired by his encouragement and reinvented herself with gusto as a 'folk-punk' singer, forming new band Culture Shock in the mid 80s. Sachiko still performs to this day and since Misora was rediscovered by Japanese fans in the early 90s, has returned to her homeland many times to perform. Misora is now regarded as a classic landmark in Japanese musical history, and she is revered her as a true underground folk pioneer. Chapter Music's edition of Misora is the first for the English-speaking world, featuring extensive liner notes, lyrics translated into English by Sachiko herself, and never before seen photos from the singer's own archives.

Sebadoh
III
PS, US It's hard to call this the shot heard 'round the world, but in its own way, "III", along with "Slanted And Enchanted", opened up a creative way by ransacking the vestiges of the 80's American underground. The original album is a schizophrenic adventure, from Lou Barlow's plaintive songwriting to Eric Gaffney's noisier psychedelically minded etudes. Long out of print, this landmark album contains the 23-track original album on disc one and a whole album's worth of additional bonus material.

Thomas, Fred
Sink Like a Symphony
PS, US Following three limited cd-r albums "Sink Like A Symphony" emerges as Thomas' first widely-available if not technically official solo debut. A step away from the ultra-bubblegum glitter of Saturday Looks Good To Me, but still rooted in the magic of the pop song, the music on "Sink" is heartbreakingly serious, ridiculously personal & still stuck in your head all day. Akin to the hyper-wordy spiritual side of Neutral Milk Hotel or the experimental lo-fidelity alchemy of The Microphones, these songs clatter and shake with hope & pain, always on the Virgo of falling into themselves, and sometimes do, coming out of a two minute pop song into a fuzz explosion or a five-minute drum circle.

Vapnet
Jag Vet Hur Man Väntar
PS, SWEDEN New 2006 album from Swedish-singing genre-bending duo. Pitchfork gives it a score of 8.3 and says nice things like: "These songs confidently strike a delicate balance: they're poppy without being twee, moody without being dark, pensive without being precious. Still, I can't deny that I've been tempted to look into translating these lyrics, to find out what these songs really mean. But after spending a few evenings on my back porch drinking Shiners, watching fireflies, and listening to Jag Vet Hur Man Väntar, I've come to the conclusion-- a minor breakthrough for me-- that I don't really need to know what these songs are about. I understand them enough to enjoy them as they sound." (Stephen M. Deusner)

As a young teen, Wilson got his start at Studio One under the tutelage of Clement Dodd and surrounded by Jamaica's top musicians - Skatalites, Bob Marley & The Wailers, Alton Ellis, and other luminaries. While at Studio One, he developed into one of Jamaica's great soul singers and one of reggae music's most beloved artist and songwriters. Delroy's prolific career spanned the musical eras of ska, rock steady, and modern reggae and was only cut short when he tragically passed away in 1995.

Works, The
S-T
PS, SWEDEN JIM'S PICK: Truly brilliant Swedish throwback psychedelia. The Works feature members of Dungen's band and by the sound of it that makes complete sense! From spine-tingling fuzzed-out epic ballads to thundering, cataclysmic psychpopsongs this album takes you back to the late 60s and early 70s (especially British psych from that era) in the same way that Elope, Hip Whips, and Motorpsycho can. Vice Magazine REVIEW: ""The shroom season is here, and the Works debut album is one aural stimuli that will groove with the fungi big time! The Works come over like goggle-eyed virtuosos from some weird Scandinavian conservatoire where ergot is on the curriculum. Musically, what comes across is a love for the angst and uplift of The Who, early Floyd and The Small Faces."

Audience
S/T (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 22ND)
PS, US Audience is one of the most interesting groups in the British panorama of the late 60s/early 70s. Their sound was a manifestation of their desire to experiment with & masterfully blend different musical styles, such as rock, folk, jazz & blues. If we must make comparisons, Jethro Tull immediately leaps to mind, particularly for the band's use of flute. Audience gained moderate notoriety thanks to their constant gigging & they soon released this 1969 self-titled debut, which featured an excellent use of (predominantly acoustic) guitar (Howard Werth) and equally high-quality flute, sax & clarinet playing (Keith Gemmell), not to mention the distinctive voice of Werth, and their simple, but effective arrangements (in a period when pomp prog rock reigned supreme). "Maiden's Cry," brings to mind "Stairway To Heaven," but it was actually written 2 years before the Zeppelin-penned opus. An excellent debut here feat. 3 bonus tracks.

Cursive
Happy Hollow (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 22ND)
PS, US Their most recent record, "The Ugly Organ", racked up considerable accolades: named one of 2003's best records by Blender, called "the best album of [the band's] career" by the NY Times, and given a 4-star rating by Rolling Stone. "Happy Hollow" is an expansion of their trademark discordant swell, marked by a new bounce, a buoyant strut, and a recognition that hey, this is fun. Dissonant yet distinctively melodic guitar sounds and front man Kasher's ever-cathartic yowl now mesh and clash with horns, piano, accordion, and other instruments. The themes addressed here include shattered American dreams, small town malaise, and religious hypocrisy. Never repeating themselves, always pushing forward artistically, and never settling,
Cursive raise the bar with yet another groundbreaking record.

"Thresholds" is a CD that Detritus had to write before being able to move on to new grounds. A prolongation of the acclaimed full-length "Origin", it dots the i on this artist's skills, and anticipate Detritus's changes in the future.

Dumovich, Mike
Mesojunarian (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 15TH)
PS, US Structured around razor-sharp fingerplucks rather than chords, Dumovich's lyrics often draw a chilly parallel between geography, weather & human emotions. Deeply thoughtful in the Nick Drake/Townes Van Zandt tradition. "Dumovich has a voice that sounds older than his time, and an intimate, emotionally raw delivery. Dumovich has remained mostly under the radar- he plays a brand of folk that may remind some of Will Oldham & Smog, but he's wholly his own creation." -Seattle Stranger

El Boxeo
Awake & Dreaming (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 29TH)
PS, US Awake, the first half of the album, is the band as the band- the three main members playing their songs live, with minimal experiments/production frill. With Awake, the band presents its stripped down violin/bass/drums sound, just as one might encounter in the normal live setting. Dreaming, a long-brewed idea of surrealism & the subconscious, finds the band under no limitations, representing both dreams as songs & songs as dreams. Adding to the mix, Dreaming is chock full of instruments, noises & voices (cello, viola, piano, a door, flute, trombone, saxophone, trumpet, twigs, keys, organ, bells) creating an ever changing, occasionally hallucinatory flow of moods & imagery. "I've never heard post-punk with violin before & damned if it doesn't work fairly well... A great combination of tone & texture." -Splendid.com.

Felipe, Dino
Dinosaur Bones & Pyramids (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 29TH)
PS, CANADA DINOSAUR BONES & PYRAMIDS finds former member of Old Bombs and Fukktron DINO FELIPE layering intoxicated melodies against waves of coke-rush electro beats & psychedelic synth soundscapes. Catchy vocal heavy tracks like "ripped & shit" and "ovulation celebration" featuring OTTO VON SCHIRACH are refreshingly inventive, and undeniably infectious. DINOSAUR BONES & PYRAMIDS is 13 upbeat and engaging tracks on CD format. Not just just dsp mayhem for comp sci kids with short attention spans, this is real music! Dino Felipe has made "music" since the age of 6 on tape recorders embracing the 4track at age 16 and ever since filling tapes up with musik, until he financed a gateway when he was 21. Now an agoraphobic hermit he makes music whenever something inspires him: flies, death, ghosts, quantum physics, and quantum physiques as well in the right bedroom. Dino was in what are now called "noise" bands from the age 16-21, although he hates the label "noise", only because he strictly believes it is MUSIC. If attempted to be described Dino's music is psychedelic, electronic, with large pop infusion and piles of ideas compressed into a song. Dino pushes boundaries by tricking you, confusing your expectations, and hurting your ears BUT: most of all it is post-apocalyptic pop.

Grails
Black Tar Prophecies Vol 1,2,3 (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 22ND)
PS, US Important is proud to release The Black Tar Prophecies in it's complete form including two tracks not available on the limited edition European vinyl only releases. At the start of 2005 Grails returned to the US from a month long European tour. Stepping off the plane most of the band walked in one direction and the violinist strayed off in another. It ended up being the last time most anyone would see or talk to him. A bandmate of 3 records and 5 years had vanished only to exist in the form of vague rumors (violin hocked for petty cash, living on the streets, etc). As the varied reports of brief encounters and sightings grew stranger and darker, the band started a series of recordings called Black Tar Prophecies. The remaining members had particular dissatisfactions with how the band had been grouped into the innocuous contemporary 'post-rock' movement. This frustration, combined with newly liberated instrumental roles, introduced new possibilities for the band's sound. In this way the collected Black Tar Prophecies ends up being a more idiosyncratic mission statement for future Grails recordings, revealing their fondness for the groundfloor 60's and 70's experimental artists that saw music as a process of discovery as opposed to the pre-conceived, pre-parametered, commodified sport that underground music has become. A parallel is now forming between Grails and oldschool experimental bands like Faust who, rejecting their past, started over from the beginning to build new languages in music.Grails third full length recording, and first full length since leaving Neurosis' label Neurot, is The Black Tar Prophecies. Seven of these nine tracks from this full length were released in small highly sought after pressings of 12" vinyl on two European labels. The Black Tar Prophecies is a massive evoltionary step in the established Grails sound and it is shrouded in change and pain. The somewhat clinical studio sound and recording style which has established them a tremendous following has been replaced with a much more free and conceptual recording style. This method liberated the group in the studio and these recordings feel much more open, heavy and for lack of a better term "psychadelic." We're not talking about the cliché co-opted psychadelic fashion, but psychadelia as a reckless embrace of new states of mind and possibilities. This sound has always existed within a Grails song but now it's been heavilly pushed to the foreground. Perhaps even more elloquently and simply stated, Black Tar Prophecies 1-3 is their best record yet.

Great Crusades, The
Four Thirty (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 22ND)
PS, US Four Thirty personifies The Great Crusades by infusing their trademark determined raw energy into a collection of tracks that winds listeners through the depths of Chicago, New Orleans and other cities with the stories they've created. The band's goal for Four Thirty was to create the warmest reflection of their ability while harnessing their raucous energy. The outcome reveals boisterous, yet well-balanced vocals and colorful harmonies coupled with guitar playing reminiscent of rock and roll's storied past. And while all this is happening, the driving drums and bass hold the band on a course somewhere between the shoulder of the road and its median, but by no means strictly along the dotted line.

Lucky Bishops
Unexpect the Expected (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 15TH)
PS, US It's been a long time between drinks for fans of the eclectic UK psychedelic/power-pop magicians, but the lads' self-produced third album is now ready to storm the planet after a lengthy gestation period in the Dorset countryside. Inspired by the experience of living together in a haunted, rat infested, coastal cottage for four years, the band have written a collection of songs drawing on power-pop, psych-pop, folk-rock and even Tropicalia to create the unique blend found on this album. Previous releases on Bevis Frond's Woronzow label & Rubric. Typical of past releases, they split the song writing and lead vocals four ways over an instrumental palette of Hammond organ, piano, chiming valve driven guitars, glutinous bass and flowing and tumbling drums. It's unlikely a finer psych-pop record will be released this year.

Here the 15 repetitive wordless tracks on- on his first solo album for 7 yrs ? are trance-inducing in their apparently unchanging state. This album shows an adrenaline overload of rock shorn of its fripperies; songs, beginnings, middles & endings. This is pure electronic current abstracted into riffs & textural sound poems. Mountain Goats
Get Lonely (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 22ND)
PS, US "Get Lonely" is every bit as assured as its predecessor, "The Sunset Tree", but the mood is entirely different. "Sunset" chronicled the fraught, violent relationship between John Darnielle and his stepfather and derived its power from an unblinking exorcism of personal demons, while "Get Lonely" is the haunted aftermath. It's a reflective, intimate record. The mood is one of bittersweet resignation rather than cathartic release. It's a quiet triumph, murmuring with a modest but entirely surefooted confidence. An uncannily coherent and subtly redemptive record which will come to be seen as Mountain Goats' most resonant, assured, and magical collection of songs so far.

Mudsuckers
Mudsuckers (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 22ND)
PS, UK Swamp noise drone. Feedback is layered like mud on the carcass of song structure. Robert uses primitive cassette manipulation as well as digital processing to thicken the sound into a swamp. Think Credence Clearwater Revival without the one chord they knew. On three of the songs, Pete uses his analog reel-to-reel wall-of-sound processing apparatus. Longjaw Mudsuckers was inspired by a mid-eighties cassette where Merzbow mixed John Hudak's nature sounds into a screaming mass of sonic debris. Robert recorded a stream after the huge New Year's Day storm and Pete plugged it into his system, making it sound at times like a stream, an ocean, and robots whispering mechanical secrets. This CD contains some of the first recordings of Tom Carter's circuit bending. Individual attributes of Gabe Mindel's guitar roar, Tom Carter's ebow laptop whirl, and Horton's clanky homemades merge into the mud stew. Driving the swirl are samples of boogie woogie piano, riffs from the session, and pounding drums of guests Michael Donnelly and Doug "Moonshine" Jin. The last number, SWEET, conjures the bar room sound of Kansas City, 1920, but recorded inside a thermonuclear reactor. The sounds created are so raw and tormented it's hard to believe they were having a good time. Must have something to do with the times, the war and the general vacuity of that season's holidays. How did these recordings happen? During the torrential rains of December 2005, caused by global warming, Robert Horton invited Tom Carter, Gabe and Pete of the Yellow Swans, and Glenn Donaldson up the hill to his home in El Cerrito for food, drink, and music-making. As it turned out, Pete and Glenn couldn't make it, so Gabe, Tom, and Robert vibrated the peaceful El Cerrito neighborhood to mud. We had beer, wine and much feedback. The turbulence of the sounds matched the late December weather. The following week when Pete came over to overdub his sounds, Robert had found an article on mudsuckers in the Berkeley Daily Planet. The headline was "Mudsuckers may be ugly, but they have value." A band was born. A mudsucker is a fish that's mostly a mouth, which spends its whole life on one patch of mudflat. Scientists use these fish to monitor carcinogens, endocrine disrupters, and other toxic chemicals in coastal waters.

Naysayer, The
Smoke Reality (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE SEPTEMBER 26TH)
PS, US The Naysayer's new record Smoke Reality was designed to mess up your mind. Anna Padgett is the Naysayer: a Texan/Louisianian Brooklyn transplant whose lyrics may shock you, confuse you, make you laugh out loud, turn red, or feel like puking. Despite the ganja vibe evoked by the title, you don't have to be on drugs to enjoy Smoke Reality. Anna's straight thoughts are way more psychedelic than your stoned ones. However, this is not to say that her songs don't sometimes stray towards the gay. If it's not working with a boy, she gets a girl: "Leave no stone unturned." And when Anna sings, "Why don't we do it on a leaf?" you might find yourself thinking, "That is so much sexier than doing it in the road." However, not every song is about the pansexual paradigm. All the human emotions get dressed up in Anna's poetic love: "Lose Yourself in Nature and Find Peace" is a city dweller's vision of spiritual nirvana; "Parents" is a politically-charged cautionary tale addressed to anyone who has ever had them. "I'm a Shark" is straight-up, "Don't Mess with Texas"-style punk; the title track conjures up visions of Judee Sill jamming with the Sea and Cake. Expertly recorded by Tara Jane O'Neil in the Oregon woods, with amazing drumming by Geoff Soule (Fuck) and additional instrumentation provided by Tara Jane and Elizabeth Venable, Smoke Reality challenges the unwritten rule of current music writing: classify, categorize, stick everything in a bag. In keeping with her previous four releases, the Naysayer continues to say no to facile codification. This is bagless music, people!Repeated listens of Smoke Reality reward the listener with new layers of melodic and lyrical complexity. Some of the best music demands an ounce of participation on the part of the listener. Listen carefully, and this album may speak to you about your own crazy life situation. It might also affect your dreams... Don't wait until you're dead to find out what you've been missing! Tracklisting: 1. smoke reality 2. parents 3. do it on a leaf 4. I'm a shark 5. hot headed hores 6. miss & hate 7. topanga 8. clean girl 9. insult to your manhood 10. don't look up at me 11. lose yourself in nature and find peace 12. leave no stone unturned 13. come back 14. love horse 15. fear menu. The Naysayer played the 2005 All Tomorrow's Parties festival in the UK, curated by Slint.• Naysayer collaborators, past and present, include Tara Jane O'Neil, Geoff Soule (Fuck), James Baluyut (+/-), Ruth Keating, Matt Sutton, and Karla Schickele (Ida), Miggy Littleton (Blood on the Wall, White
Magic), Kendall Jane Meade (Mascott)...

Raf Bomber Command At War 1939-45 Volume 1
Historical Recordings (spoken word) (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 15TH)
PS, UK 28 tracks. CD41 are proud to announce a 72 minute audio CD collection of rare archive recordings from the Second World War, featuring broadcast and actuality recordings made during RAF Bomber Command raids on Essen, Stettin, Kleve and Berlin in 1943, together with crew debriefs and war correspondent reports. Largely unheard for more than sixty years, these astonishing actuality recordings were made by plucky BBC engineers, who bravely joined the crews of Lancaster heavy bombers for night raids on German targets. The recordings were made on portable "midget" disc cutting machines plugged directly into the Lancaster's intercom system, and capture the drama as it unfolds of anti-aircraft fire, night fighter attack, evasive action, "bombs away" and the ever-present danger of mid-air collision. The war correspondents featured include such celebrated names as Wynford Vaughan Thomas, Edward R. Murrow and Richard Dimbleby. The CD also features recordings made by aircrew after returning safely to base, including an air gunner's account of the devastating raid on Dresden in February 1945, and a remarkable report on the daring raid on the Dortmund- Ems Canal in August 1940, for which the speaker (Flt Lt Roderick Learoyd) was awarded the Victoria Cross, Britain's highest gallantry award. The booklet features detailed recording and historical notes by James Hayward as well as rare photographs. All audio content has been carefully digitally restored for CD release. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the CD will be donated to the RAF Association. The CD is an absolute must for all historians and researchers, as well as collectors of archive sound and broadcast recordings. Also available on CD41: The Very Best of ITMA (CD41-004), British War Broadcasting 1938-1946 (CD41-007).

Satie, Erik
Musique de la Rose + Croix / Pages Mystiques / Uspud (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 15TH)
PS, UK LTM is proud to announce a new CD in our series by visionary French composer Erik Satie (1866-1925), following the success of previous releases Vexations and Cocteau, Satie and Les Six, and presenting selected Satie recordings with explicit links to the unconventional, the mystic and the avant-garde. Musique de la Rose+Croix is a double disc set (94 minutes) of solo piano music comprising Satie's enigmatic Rosicrucian pieces (1891-1894) together with an instrumental version of the ballet score Uspud (1892) and the meditative works collected as the Pages Mystiques (1893). For a short period Erik Satie was appointed official composer for the esoteric Ordre de la Rose-Croix Catholique du Temple et du Graal, founded in Paris by the flamboyant mystic 'Sar' Joséphin Péladan. The first Salon de la Rose-Croix was held in March 1892, at which Satie's solemn Trois Sonneries de la Rose + Croix were performed for the first time. Satie also composed music for Péladan's play Le Fils des étoiles (Son of the Stars), as well as two preludes for a chivalric play, Le Nazaréen. Satie subsequently broke from the Order in August 1892. Subsequent works by Satie in the same vein include his remarkable 'Christian ballet' Uspud (1892), 'sacred' music intended to shock and ridicule the Parisian musical establishment, and the Pages Mystiques of 1983. The latter includes his celebrated piece Vexations, the score for which is just three lines long, yet a complete performance (840 repetitions) may last for anything between 14 and 28 hours. Satie's so-called 'Rosicrucian adventure' produced some of the composer's most enigmatic and extraordinary works, performed here by pianists Bojan Gorisek and Richard Cameron-Wolfe. The booklet of the double CD set includes detailed liner notes by James Hayward.

Satie, Erik
Socrate + Melodies (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 22ND)
PS, UK 21 tracks. LTM is pleased to announce a new CD edition of the acclaimed recording of Erik Satie's symphonic drama Socrate, performed by Music Projects London and previously available on the Factory Classical label. Completed in the spring of 1918, Socrate is a typical eccentric piece from avant-garde pioneer Erik Satie. Written in three movements for voice (four sopranos) and small orchestra (or piano), the text is extracted from three Platonic dialogues and depicts the last days of the Greek philosopher Socrates, condemned to death for corrupting the young men of Athens. The subtitle "symphonic drama" belies the understatement and economy of Socrate, which Satie aimed to make "white and pure like antiquity." To achieve this, Satie claimed that he ate only white foods. Socrate itself lasts for 30 minutes, and is joined on this CD by five short song cycles written by Satie between 1886 and 1923: Trois Melodies (1886), Trois Autres Melodies, Trois Melodies (1916), Quatres Petite Melodies (1920) and the absurdist Ludions (bottle imps) (1923), the latter with lyrics by poet Leon-Paul Fargue. The 61 minute CD was digitally recorded at All Saints Church, Petersham, UK. Sopranos Susan Bickley, Eileen Hulse and Patricia Rosario perform with pianist Robin Bowman and conductor Richard Bernas. This new CD edition from LTM features new artwork and revised liner notes and translations, including full texts of Socrate and all eighteen Melodies in both French and English. Socrate + Melodies has already been praised by The Gramophone (1990).

Secret Mommy
The Wisdom EP (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 29TH)
PS, US What kind of mad genius could record a trip to the dentist to have their wisdom teeth pulled only to turn it into a CDs worth of awesome electronic tracks? SECRET MOMMY of course! Secret Mommy is the fax-warping alter ego of Ache Records head honcho Andy Dixon and "The Wisdom EP" is a mini album collection of amazingly creative tracks that includes remixes by Joshua Kit Clayton, Sun Ok Papi K.O of Sonig records and Piers Whyte of Ache records. Each track from The Wisdom EP flows together as a seemless mix offering a unique experience that won't soon be forgotten by its listeners. BIO: Secret Mommy is The beautifully strange, fax-warping alter ego of Ache Records head honcho Andy Dixon. Having played an integral part in the Northwest punk scene with bands D.B.S. and more recently the Red Light Sting, the work of Vancouverite Andy Dixon has always been rooted in DIY punk rock. Though his computer-based glitch project known as Secret Mommy is a departure from the abrasive guitar-work of his former bands, the approach is much the same. Andy creates music that sounds like the inside of a computer, with beeps and blurts and zaps and clicks perfectly organized, with the echo of techno's most complex moments vying for speaker time in the distant background The result is a polyrhythmic, visceral celebration of sporadic delight. A cut n paste exploration of activity and movement, obscured by mild absurdism.

The songs are a result of desultory late nights, Ryan's gifted, unfailing profusion of ideas & sounds & Melissa's occasionally obdurate 2 cents.

Southside Johnny & Asbury Jukes
Live @ Paradise (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 22ND)
PS, US In the early 70s New Jersey's music scene was dominated primarily by two great bands: Bruce Springsteen & The E-Street Band and Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes. Southside Johnny had a diverse sound that passed easily from effervescent R&B to boogie rock, to tender heartbreaking ballads. The recording on this CD is from 1978 and features Southside Johnny in top form playing Boston's famous Paradise Theater in 1978. The horn section is the real momentum behind the band, which amazingly is able to replicate its full-bodied studio sound. The tracks are written mainly by Springsteen and Steve Van Zandt, but also include covers by Sam Cook and Leiber & Stoller.

Spirit
Cosmic Smile (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 22ND)
PS, US Creators of refined and original albums, Spirit are undoubtedly one of the most interesting groups in the panorama of American rock, thanks to drummer Ed Cassidy (ex-jazz drummer) and guitarist Randy California (friend of Jimi Hendrix, from whom he had obviously learned a great number of tricks). This album came to life between '91 and '95, but it is not a collection, it is a real album and of high quality.

The Body, The Blood, The Machine (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 22ND)
PS, US With a wider, brighter, and wilder sound than anything they've done in the past, this record adds walls of guitars, organs, and even a few "ballads" (a.k.a. slightly pretty songs) to the mix, while still retaining the gritty post-pop-punk sound for which they're globally famous. Recorded in the band's hometown of Portland, OR by Fugazi's Brendan Canty.

VanGaalen, Chad
Skelliconnection (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 22ND)
PS, US Using an assortment of instruments, both conventional and handmade, Chad's created an even more diverse assemblage of music than for his last album and debut, "Infiniheart". He's an amazingly talented illustrator and animator. You may have seen his videos for his own "Clinically Dead" and Love As Laughter's "Dirty Lives". Both were featured on MTV2's "Subterranean" video show, which Chad also hosted. He's played with Built To Spill, Wolf Parade, and The Pixies, to name a few. This record is a restless, living thing, roaming between simple yet beautiful ballads, aggressively dissonant post-punk and jazz-inflected synth-pop explorations, at times whimsical, and at others heartrending.

Wire
Chairs Missing (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 15TH)
PS, US With its Eno-esque synth textures, Chairs Missing has been often cited as the evolutionary link between punk and post-punk. In general, the lyrics are darker than those on Pink Flag, even morbid at times; images of cold, drowning, pain, and suicide haunt the record, and the title itself is a reference to mental instability. Originally released in 1978 and now available for the first time on 180 gram audiophile vinyl. Original artwork.

Wire
154 (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 15TH)
PS, US If Chairs Missing is the transition album from punk to post-punk, 154 is definitely of the latter genre. Synth moves to the forefront on this 1979 third album from Wire along with melodies that help humanize the electronic textures. Named for the number of gigs the band had played to that point, 154 shows how far this band had come in three years over three albums. Original artwork. First time on 180 gram audiophile vinyl.

Wire
Pink Flag (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 15TH)
PS, US Originally released on Harvest in 1977, Pink Flag is perhaps the most original debut album to come out of the first wave of British punk. Exhibiting severe art school damage, Wire careens at breakneck speed through 21 songs in 36 minutes to create an album that has influenced bands for nearly thirty years. Original artwork. 180 gm.

Perfectionist Blacklist (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 22ND)
PS, US Fullerton, CA quintet who have sculpted a debut album of some depth & creativity while reserving the right to rock out when the occasion calls for it. The tempos range from moderate to blistering with the best surprisingly coming on their slowest number, "Oct 23," which includes some almost underwater guitar & mournful vocals. But what the record does best from the opening track is rip in an emo meets indie fashion that's always under control. Electronics, percussion, cello & mournful horns add unexpected bits that help elevate this album out of the pack & into a lane by itself. "A truly great record."-Decoymusic.com
