| Story Of My Life |
I can remember
watching the movie "The Coal Miners Daughter" over
and over when I was kid. I loved the way Sissy Spacek talked
in that country twang...and I always had a love for Loretta
Lynn just because of the movie of her life. (Not quiet as much
as Jessica Lang playing Patsy Cline...but it's all connected,
huh?) Anyway...that gal had some great songs...."Fist
City"....if you haven't listened to that lately....I suggest
you do....
So, I listened to Van Ler Rose here at Parasol a few times,
and really enjoyed it...mostly impressed that a 70-ish woman
was still putting out a record...and with one of the hoppest
dudes in rock!!! However, it wasn't until a recent short tour
I took with my friend Gina, that I learned to love this cd.
Ya see...Gina bought the cd for our trip, and accidently put
the cd into the car stereo cd played with the top spine stuck
to the bottom...needless to say, after the cd had finished,
and she had read the liner notes aloud in her best Loretta
Lynn accent...the cd is STUCK in the player...so...from Urbana
to St. Louis, and St. Louis to Nashville it was all Loretta
Lynn Van Lear Rose...all Loretta all the time....Loretta, Gina
and I became very close!!
So what about Jack White (White Stripes) working with the country
goddess Loretta Lynn? I think they have transcended musical
boundaries. And in her liner notes Loretta even compares Jack
to Nashville producer Owen Bradley....huge props for Jack!!!
And...Loretta even wrote all the songs...and they're great!!!
Check it out. A must hear cd of 2004!!!!!
