“Eccentric
Soul: The Capsoul Label” collects 19 tracks of
amazing albeit barely heard of soul music from Columbus,
Ohio’s Capsoul (short for Capitol Soul) Label
circa 1970’s. Soul music? Why is Parasol writing
about soul music? Well, not only is it a great compilation
of damn near everything Capsoul released (total output
of a dozen 45s and one LP) but the issuing label, Numero,
is well worth supporting. In the same way that our Reaction
Recordings is trying to release music
we have always loved but feel never got a proper release,
Numero is seeking out music they love and giving it
a second chance. These guys even went to Bill Moss’ house
(founder of Capsoul) in search of the master tapes
for this release. On top of that, they’ve got
fantastic artwork and great liner notes. Do your indie
sensibilities some good and check out this release.
If nothing else, it’ll broaden your base a bit.

best French-Belgian electro-samba record you've
never heard.” For fans of Air, Stereolab
