Neo-conservatism is rampant...the religious right is taking over our culture...the military/industrial complex is bankrupting the country and individual liberty is being stripped away...

It's 2004, and our society is starting to resemble the early 80s more and more.

I generally think that it's not a good idea to mix politics and music. It makes you sound preachy and generally turns people off. If there is one band in the history of rock that I think successfully bucked the trend, it's the Dead Kennedys. Their take on Reagan-era American life strives to educate. A call to action for the under-20 set who consider the network news to be more of a "tool of the man" than a means for gathering factual information. In the 80s, there was no more useful tool for learning about corrupt politics, religious over-zealots, and foreign policy than the DKs. This follow-up to their debut full-length I think is their strongest, both in the music and in the message. This album was my first foray into the world of hardcore, when our mantra became "the faster the better" and the message was strong enough to piss off kids who weren't even old enough to vote.

The car-commercial "punks" of today should take a lesson from the history book (did I just make myself sound old?) and add a little substance to that style...

Oh, and more covers of "Rawhide", please...
