Born
and raised across from St. Louis on the Illinois side of
the Mississippi River, members
of Castor migrated north together to the twin college towns
of Champaign-Urbana where they promptly formed a rock band,
forging their sound of power. The liquid melodicism, evident
on Castor's self-titled
1996 Mud Records debut,
is in full guitar-stressed force on their follow-up, Tracking
Sounds Alone.
Produced by Shiner member Paul
Malinowski, TSA delivers on Castor's reputation
for writing artful, moody post-punk songs with brilliant
overtones. In a 1996 review, Big Takeover described
Castor's style akin to "hard-core bands...exploring
slower, melodic sides in their sons...keeping a blast of
distortion on reserve for when the kids get restless." |
