03/31/2004 Entry: "M. Donald Roux"
I'm following up with writers this week on the Hederos & Hellberg CD and there are certain people for whom e-mail contact is the preferred option. However, I always find it awkward when a writer's byline starts with an initial. For example, mine would be M. Donald Roux. I try to be informal when addressing the recipient but "Hello M." feels incomplete and "Hello M. Donald" seems too formal. I could just say "Hi" but then the recipient may believe I'm sending a mass e-mail. I could dispense with the salutation altogether and use all lower case and an array of emoticons, but memories of my B&TW class won't loosen their grip.
