New Ruins disbanded in 2012 after eight years, four full length albums, two EPs, a 7" single, hundreds of shows and several hard drives full of unreleased material. Eight years of constant evolution, moving from the original acoustic duo of Caleb Means and Elzie Sexton to a multi-layered, stage-shaking, multi-member rock band. The end for New Ruins was as natural as starting it. No hard feelings, no drama; it was simply time to keep evolving.

Wicked Walls started as a record, not so much a band. Caleb was going through some life-altering events and had all-day-every-day to work on new material. He wrote and recorded most of the record over the summer of 2012 and soon the stages of local clubs began beckoning. In early 2013 Wicked Walls, augmented with members of New Ruins, Chemicals and Terminus Victor, started playing shows in and around their hometown of Champaign, Illinois.

The major themes of the record are making mistakes and suffering for them. There are songs of denial and acceptance, pain and discomfort, and a lot of longing, There is a little hope in each song too. Ultimately it ends up being about the people we're close to and all the things they will do to help you through hard times. Wicked Walls' music is heavier than Caleb's previous endeavors, harkening back to his teenage years. It's angry. It's honest. And Caleb tracked and mixed the recordings himself, which reinforced the personal elements: "I really got to be alone with the songs."
