Recordings made in 1987-8 thanks to a $500 loan from a good friend. At the time there were a lot of "smelly guy" rock bands around our town, and we felt really out of place wanting to make music influenced by the Beach Boys and the Left Banke. It was the beginning of wimp rock for sure! I remember we had a lot of fun doing this stuff, and we really were inspired by older records that we were just discovering for the first time. Stuff by the Zombies and Hollies and Byrds and even Simon & Garfunkel. Later we signed a bogus record deal with some people in the UK, and when pressed for a name for our project, came up with ChooChooTrain, something we definitly have lived to regret. Still, the music has held up rather well in the face of all of the indie-wimp pop that's come after it, and this is your chance to hear all of it, including the unreleased original "There Before The Dawn", and a ragged version of Paul Collins' "Walking Out On Love" that we cut at the very last minute of the final session.

During our long trek across America with Mazzy Star and The Jesus & Mary Chain we made a stop at Chicago's Cabaret Metro where we were informed the Metro Mobile unit would be taping the show. since we were the opening band on a three band bill we only had about 35 minutes to work our magic, and as usual the odd assortment of goths and socially maladjusted discontents who'd shown up early to secure a good position on the floor to view their idols were a bit hesitant to react to our firebrand rock action. but, we got 'em by the end, and this is as good a representation of our live act as there'll ever be. Must be played loud!

Yes folks, finally the third LP is available! It was originally out only in Japan, but since it's practically impossible to find a copy, and you certainly don't wanna pay the enormous import price, this will be the version you'll wanna get. It comes with a bonus track that isn't even available on the Japanese version, and that's reason to be even more excited! We poured a lot of soul into this record, and it's been said by those people who were "leaked" copies to be our best ever. It's definitly our heaviest, or as I like to refer to it, our "blues" album! Rejoice!

Remember the Lightning Mr Spaceman

For years people have been buggin' us (and our friends at Parasol) to get copies of our early singles and eps, and for years I've seen said releases sell to collector's for way more than I think they're worth. Finally, after much procrastinating, we've collected them all in one place, and now you can take a wild ride through our ten year 'career' in just over an hour, and best of all, it's very affordable. Yup, it's all here folks, and some of it's never been available in the digital format (compact disc) before. oh, and there's an unreleased track, a version of Elevator Operator by Gene Clark, included for good measure. and yes, we know "odessey" is spelled incorrectly so shut up already!

The Velvet Crush: In the Presence of Greatness

Drive Me Down Ash & Earth Superstar

At the time of it's release in 1991, In the Presence of Greatness, the first Velvet Crush album, was hailed as a 'classic' by the likes of Rolling Stone and Britain's New Musical Express for christ's sake, and now it's available with new artwork and three bonus tracks! Recorded on 8 tracks at our friend Matthew Sweet's house in Princeton, NJ, it has an explosive sound the likes of which we'll probably never recapture, and seeing as how it's been remastered, sounds better than ever before. Infact, it sounds like it coulda been recorded yesterday, which i guess is why it's a 'classic'!
