The Now People - The Last Great 20th Century Love Affair CD $10.20 15% off (Bird Song)
New release from Ric Menck's Bird Song label! After three years in suspended animation, The Now People have arrived with 12 diverse and meticulously crafted gems from a baroque pop netherworld. Recorded at the Wondermints’ Studio Thru Inner Space, the debut album from The Now People challenges the listener to draw comparisons. They are simply like no other, now or since. To everything there is a season, and the season of The Now People is upon us... The Now People is a vocal and instrumental quartet consisting of Steve Stanley (guitar, keyboards and leading vocals), Alan "Ruby" Rubens (keyboards, bass and vocals), Probyn Gregory (horns and other exotic instruments, also in the Brian Wilson band, Wondermints) and Nelson Bragg (drums and percussion) also in the Brian Wilson band. Together, these four gentlemen are carving out a unique sound that has been described as "sonically balanced, totally integrated pop," marked by 60s-flavored melodic hooks and memorable choruses with a contemporary perspective. ALL MUSIC GUIDE: “Stand easy children, there is beauty to be found everyday, and now you have today's.” (Matthew Greenwald)

Hello Saferide - Introducing... CD $13.00 ON SALE (Razzia)
We’ve had this title for a while, but I’m putting it on sale again indefinitely and saying nicer things about it because not enough of you have picked it up! Hello Saferide is Swedish lass Annika Norlin, who offers up her heart(breaking) and soul(baring), often steeped in bedroom melancholy, but likely as not couched amidst rollicking guitar pop, all blessed with high IQ singersongwriter know-how. She packs her songs with finely wrought-storytelling and deft turns of phrase. There’s also a more recent EP entitled “The Long Lost Penpal EP” which features a guest appearance by Firefox AK. Coming soon: the new EP from Annika Norlin's Hello Saferide, “Would you let me play this EP ten times a day? Five new songs including "The Quiz", which prompted The All Mighty Pitchfork to proclaim a “Cuteness alert!!!" and the writer explains how Annika “has the kind of idiosyncratic voice frequently praised in indie guys but less common among girls”, while admitting to “a huge case of the warm-fuzzies”. Check out the front page for sound samples!

Almaas, Steve and Ali Smith
You Showed Me
PS, US Second album from Steve Almaas (Suicide Commandos, Beat Rodeo, solo artist) and his significant other Ali Smith (Speedball Baby). Ali Smith's musical background is steeped in punk, rockabilly and most notably, the blues stomp of Speedball Baby. Steve Almaas was in on the ground floor of punk rock in the late-70s, as a founding member of Minneapolis' Suicide Commandos, as well as a precursor to alt-country with his band Beat Rodeo during the 80s. As with their self-titled debut (PARCD084) their shared love of American song manifests itself yet again on their second album, 'You Showed Me'.

Steve and Ali continue to share vocal duties, while Steve contributes the lion's share in the songwriting department. Of course sprinkled amongst the original compositions are cover versions of some of their most beloved songs. The album leads off with the title track, their version of "You Showed Me", made famous by The Turtles, but actually a Byrds song (by McGuinn & Clark) from 'Preflyte'. They also add sultry pedal steel to The Beach Boys' "The Lonely Sea", and include their unused but not idle contribution to the James Joyce Chamber Music project.

Besides Ali and Steve sharing the vocal duties and Steve playing acoustic guitar, harmonica, piano and organ, the core band included long-time Steve cohort (and Holly and the Italians alum) Mark Sidgwick on bass, Speedball Baby's Andy Action on drums and multi-instrumentalist Jon Graboff on pedal steel, mandolin and guitar. Other guests include George Usher, Mitch Easter, Phil Hernandez, Matt Martin and Chris Maxwell, who also produced the album.

Belfi, Andrea
Between Neck & Stomach
PS, US The drummer of Rosolina Mar & is a member of Medves along w/ Giuseppe Ielasi, Stefano Pilia, Renato Rinaldi & Riccardo Wanke. This is grounded on 2 core elements: the 1st is the material collected during the unique experiment of turning a house into "a living creature with its own voice" (just one example: a synth emitting one continuous note shaking a cupboard filled with pots, pans & plates). The 2nd core element is the choice of just one thematic note per song, around which each track is built & balanced.

Crayon Fields, The
Animal Bells
PS, AUSTRALIA Geoff O'Connor, lead singer, guitarist and songwriter of Melbourne quartet the Crayon Fields, is a myopic boy genius whose record collection consists almost solely of op-shop vinyl LPs released before 1970. Consequently, the Crayon Fields play intricate, atmospheric pop songs that recall the minor key majesty and close-knit harmonies of 60s maestros such as the Zombies, the Byrds and the Beach Boys. Animal Bells is the Crayon Fields' debut album, after forming in the last year of high school in 2002 and releasing two previous independent EPs. The album title refers to the animal-shaped toy bells that were used throughout the album and link its 12 concise songs. Basic tracks were recorded at Sub Studios with engineer Simon Knight earlier this year, then taken home to be polished into their final, shimmering shapes. The band suffered a major setback midway through recording when Sub's Latrobe University studios were broken into overnight and all the Crayon Fields' gear stolen. Thankfully after a tense week scouring local pawn shops and Cash Converters, all of the band's equipment was recovered, the culprits brought to justice, and recording resumed. Nothing of this hiccup is evident in the finished product - Animal Bells is an unruffled, dreamy pop masterpiece. Geoff's often falsetto vocals and ringing 12 string guitar playing are ably accompanied by Brett Hudson's nimble bass playing, Chris Hung on 2nd guitar and percussion and Neil Erenstrom on drums. Nicole and Julian of fellow Trifekta artists Minimum Chips also provide guest vocals. In recent times, the Crayon Fields have supported many a touring national and international band, including the Unicorns, Dirty Three, Electrelane, Deerhoof, Calvin Johnson, Kelly Stoltz and Architecture in Helsinki to name a few. Now with the multi-layered, resonant and gorgeous Animal Bells, co-released by Chapter Music and Trifekta Records, it's time for the Crayon Fields to step forward and be counted among Australia's finest, most intriguing bands.

Dark Side of the Cop
S/T
PS, US The 1st in a trilogy of albums, Dark Side of the Cop combines the eeriness of Brian Wilson-era songwriting w/a miniature electronic orchestra of synths, drum machines & samplers. San Francisco songwriter Marco Panella leads the project w/a revolving support cast. Panella & contributing songwriter Joe Weisenthal began the band as an alternate soundtrack to the '84 comedy "Beverly Hills Cop" (in the way that Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" supposedly synchs up w/The Wizard of Oz). De Vahl, Erik
Friendly Fire
PS, SWEDEN From the label that gave us Jens Lekman, TTA and Embassy comes Erik de Vahl - a deeply original singsongwriter that you should check asap. Being tagged as the most difficult (and least known) of the brave pop poets and catwomen of Service it is time to wash away any such false notions. It's time for elevation. Spotlights on! Thanks for taking us by surprise. It's a pop microcosmos affair of intimacy, subtleness and warmth, alone and very special somewhere on the DYI-postfolk-toytronic axis.

Doleful Lions
Song Cyclops Volume 2
PS, US New collection of lofi bliss, winsome melodies, and trademark paranormal subject matter from Doleful Lions' Jonathan Scott. 22 songs include handful of covers: Beach Boys, Close Lobsters, The Crystals, Descendents,, Close Lobsters, and The Misfits. PITCHFORK: "Doleful Lions aim to purr and meow their way onto your lap in the damned most adorable way possible." /// UNCUT MAGAZINE: "Neo-psychedelic orch-pop, with chiming guitars and close vocal harmonies. The sound of dreams." /// ALL MUSIC GUIDE: "At this point, singer/songwriter Jonathan Scott and studio rat Dave Jackson are masters of mini-orchestration that can turn any song of their choosing into a swirling snow globe epic." /// CARELESS TALK COSTS LIVES: "Doleful Lions make a rather gorgeous whisper of sound; guitars picking out starlight bathed in swathes of keyboards; a rolling distant thunder of drums and voices that tiptoe... It's vaguely psychedelic, where thankfully the psychedelia is more the gentle thrill of Sagittarius than, say, the electric overdose and histrionics of a Hendrix or Cream. This is rock that doesn't rock at all, but sways, lost in summer breezes and the mythology of Smile bootlegs." /// GEAR MAGAZINE: "Prodigiously smart, criminally catchy indie pop." <br>

PS, US It's got weird cover art, which incl. a pg of stickers that can be cut out & stuck where you please. The vinyl is 2-colored (half hot pink, half gunmetal gray), & this is a solidly tight package in all other aesthetic & musical departments. Easy Star All-Stars
Radiodread
PS, US Highly recommended. From the folks that created the waycool Pink Floyd tribute 'Dub Side Of The Moon' (also available), this is a similarly-styled reggae tribute to Radiohead's 'OK Computer', features guest appearances by reggae heavyweights like Horace Andy, Morgan Heritage, Toots & the Maytals, and Israel Vibration . ALL MUSIC GUIDE: "The Easy Star All-Stars not only treat OK Computer with the respect it merits, they successfully re-imagine it, creating a work of art that, while it may never earn the over-the-top critical plaudits enjoyed by the source material, should find favor with both Radiohead loyalists and roots reggae purists alike. It couldn't have been easy, but the All-Stars make it sound so. Each tune is reconsidered on its own terms, with guest vocalists -- among them reggae giants such as Horace Andy (opener "Airbag"), Morgan Heritage ("Electioneering"), Toots & the Maytals (a very upbeat "Let Down") and Israel Vibration (album-closing "The Tourist") -- bringing a personal stamp to each tune. How each of these vocalists chooses to handle Thom Yorke's keening, facile vocals is worth a study in itself -- some virtually mimic him while others throw out the mold and come at the material from a completely outsider perspective. Ditto the arrangements: OK Computer's tricky time shifts and layers of electronics and ambient sounds could, in lesser hands, add up to a complete muck-up, but instead Radiodread emerges as its own, quite satisfying entity. It may be sacrilege to even think so, but it's possible that some listeners unable to warm up to Radiohead may even come to prefer this OK Computer from an alternative universe." (Jeff Tamarkin)

El Boxeo
Awake & Dreaming
PS, US Awake, the first half of the album, is the band as the band- the three main members playing their songs live, with minimal experiments/production frill. With Awake, the band presents its stripped down violin/bass/drums sound, just as one might encounter in the normal live setting. Dreaming, a long-brewed idea of surrealism & the subconscious, finds the band under no limitations, representing both dreams as songs & songs as dreams. Adding to the mix, Dreaming is chock full of instruments, noises & voices (cello, viola, piano, a door, flute, trombone, saxophone, trumpet, twigs, keys, organ, bells) creating an ever changing, occasionally hallucinatory flow of moods & imagery. "I've never heard post-punk with violin before & damned if it doesn't work fairly well... A great combination of tone & texture." -Splendid.com.

Embassy, The
Tacking
PS, SWEDEN Jetset electro-pop ecstasy from Göteborg outfit that eschews Rock City Sweden's guitars for a glittering sound that recalls The Legends, The Radio Dept, OMD, The Field Mice, Tears For Fears, and Biff Bang Pow, New Order, and Depeche Mode! The Embassy is Fredrik Lindson (vocals, guitar) and Torbjörn Håkansson (programming), two lads brought together by a mutual loathing for the Göteborg "rock scene", and by punching each other up at an office party. Definitely a special brand of tension here! IT'S A TRAP! REVIEW: "It sounds like what would happen if Pet Shop Boys and Sarah Records had a child, or in this case - two children. Although you could read in a million and one influences into this, this record sounds NOW. Like all pop should, but almost never does." (Johannna Smith)

Felipe, Dino
Dinosaur Bones & Pyramids
PS, CANADA DINOSAUR BONES & PYRAMIDS finds former member of Old Bombs and Fukktron DINO FELIPE layering intoxicated melodies against waves of coke-rush electro beats & psychedelic synth soundscapes. Catchy vocal heavy tracks like "ripped & shit" and "ovulation celebration" featuring OTTO VON SCHIRACH are refreshingly inventive, and undeniably infectious. DINOSAUR BONES & PYRAMIDS is 13 upbeat and engaging tracks on CD format. Not just just dsp mayhem for comp sci kids with short attention spans, this is real music! Dino Felipe has made "music" since the age of 6 on tape recorders embracing the 4track at age 16 and ever since filling tapes up with musik, until he financed a gateway when he was 21. Now an agoraphobic hermit he makes music whenever something inspires him: flies, death, ghosts, quantum physics, and quantum physiques as well in the right bedroom. Dino was in what are now called "noise" bands from the age 16-21, although he hates the label "noise", only because he strictly believes it is MUSIC. If attempted to be described Dino's music is psychedelic, electronic, with large pop infusion and piles of ideas compressed into a song. Dino pushes boundaries by tricking you, confusing your expectations, and hurting your ears BUT: most of all it is post-apocalyptic pop.

Froberg, Tobias
Somewhere In The City
PS, US New album from acclaimed Swedish singer-songwriter. The next Jose Gonzalez perhaps? Compared to Jose, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Simon & Garfunkel, Bright Eyes, Damian Rice, and Devendra Banhart, but ALL MUSIC GUIDE says: "There's no real reason to play spot the influence here: Fröberg is an original and Somewhere in the City, the artist's second album, is a delicious trifle. Nearly every instrument is played by Fröberg and his co-producer, Linus Larsson, and although a few guests are brought on board (Norway's Ane Brun sings a duet with Fröberg on "Love and Misery"), this is clearly not a group effort. Fröberg's skillful acoustic guitar work (again, as on "God's Highway," reminiscent of Simon's, particularly his early folk style) is smartly placed up front throughout most of the recording, miked closely and used wisely to set the pensive, sometimes melancholy mood." Lucksmiths, The
Naturaliste
PS, AUSTRALIA Aussie release now the only left in print. Two years after their last studio album "Why That Doesn't Surprise Me" won the hearts of pop lovers and critics around the world, The Lucksmiths return with "Naturaliste". The highly anticipated new record confirms the reputation of this Melbourne band, offering eleven examples of instantly memorable indie pop music to win you all over again. All The Lucksmiths' hallmarks are here - an ear for melody, an eye for detail and a way with words. And again all three members contribute songs. But stepping away from the increasing orchestration of their recent work, the guitar-based "Naturaliste" demonstrates a sensibility of understatement and restraint that allows these songs to shine. This is at once The Lucksmiths' most assured and cohesive work so far, from the effortless guitar jangle of "Take This Lying Down" and opener "Camera-Shy" to the gentle yearnings of "The Perfect Crime" and "What You'll Miss"; from the late-night melancholy of "Stayaway Stars" and "What Passes For Silence" to the sunny melody of "Midweek Midmorning", their single of late last year praised as "a fragile gem", "the kind of pop moment that will remind you why you fell in love with music in the first place". "Naturaliste" continues The Lucksmiths' collaboration with producer Craig Pilkington, who contributed brass arrangements and shared lead guitar duties with bass player Mark Monnone. As you'd expect with such popular fellows, other friends dropped into Richmond's Audrey Studios: Eva Sommerfeld (The Foots) lends her voice to the mesmeric "The Sandringham Line", and transpacific tourmates The Salteens lend theirs to "Stayaway Stars". The Lucksmiths' fifth studio album in a decade is also their finest hour. "Naturaliste" represents reassurance that pop music can be affecting rather than affected, and further evidence, were it needed, of why "if there is to be a way back to world domination for melodic intelligent pop ... The Lucksmiths are likely to be in the vanguard."

Lucksmiths, The
Why That Doesn't Surprise Me
PS, AUSTRALIA Released in the US on Drive-In, Australia on Candle, Japan on Clover. Please, no export to Australia or Japan. The release will also be made available on 12" 220 gram Czechoslovakian vinyl, price and release date to be determined. The Lucksmiths, a Melbournebased pop group, have issued a statement denying that the release of their new album "Why That Doesn't Surprise Me" played any part in the recently announced Tom Cruise/Nicole Kidman separation. Guitarist Marty Donald dismissed the claims as "pure speculation". "It is our first full-length studio recording since 1997 [the well-received "A Good Kind of Nervous"], so there was a degree of expectation involved for us - and, hopefully, for the public," he said. "However, to suggest that it could lead to something like this is way off the mark." "Why That Doesn't Surprise Me" was recorded over the Australian summer at Audrey Studios in the inner Melbourne suburb of Richmond, under the guidance of producer Craig Pilkington (the Killjoys). Its fourteen tracks build on the Lucksmiths' brand of intelligent pop, embellishing it with organ, piano, brass, clarinet, and - yes - a string quartet. Good friend Darren Hanlon was one of the many collaborators. Lyrically it is the group's most personal work to date. All three Lucksmiths contributed songs to the album, and the maturing evident in their writing is reflected in the greater sophistication of the arrangements. However, Donald rejected suggestions that songs dealing with the pressures faced by lovers separated by work ("Don't Bring Your Work to Bed") or distance ("The Great Dividing Range"), the aftermath of a break-up ("All the Recipes I've Ever Ruined"), and advising a friend to end a troubled relationship ("Synchronised Sinking"), were in fact oblique references to the Cruise/Kidman situation. "That's laughable," he laughed. "This album is more diverse than that. We've also got songs about cousins, rollercoasters and the Beach Boys." The head of the Lucksmiths' Australian label Candle Records, Mr Chris Crouch, was unavailable for comment, being on his way to Los Angeles "to comfort a close friend". However, a Candle spokesperson described the story as a "shocker" and said see the facts for yourself on their 5 week Australian tour before they head to Japan, USA and UK.

Mirafiori
No Podemos Volver a Casa
PS, SPAIN "No podemos volver a casa" is the first album by MIRAFIORI, four years after their debut EP "Cinco Minutos" (Annika Records). There's several reasons for this long gap between recordings: Nacho is living abroad, which makes production and recording a lot harder, and the Annika label disappeared during the album's work. Finally, and after several efforts from all sides, MIRAFIORI's first album is ready to be released on Autopop in the summer of 2006. Recording of this magnificent dream-pop album started in late 2004 at the Amarillo studios owned by Guille Mostaza (singer on Spanish band ELLOS and producer of PORTONOVO, among others), with almost all songs already written and recorded as demos by Nacho. The songs belong to different moments, from the times of MIRAFIORI's first demos ("Estamos desafinados"), the months following the first EP in Madrid ("Recuerdos del lago artificial", "Luciérnagas", "Nosotros y nuestros abrigos", "Agujeros en la arena"...), and Nacho's long stays in Germany ("En la luna", "Hasta que vuelva", "Acto de contricción") and France ("El idioma de las flores"). Nevertheless, the album's whole doesn't suffer from this, but keeps a remarkable consistency and a common feel which, when you get to the last track on the album and look back, defines MIRAFIORI with a gorgeous sound of their own and a melancholic spell. The songs have been recorded for the album in Amarillo, Guille's own studio, and work has been distributed between Nacho (lead and backing vocals, guitars, programming and keyboards) and Guille (bass, synthesizers, percussion, keyboards, programming, violin...). Reyes García-Miró, singer in PORTONOVO, is also doing a cameo hidden among other friends in one of the songs. By the end of the spring in 2006 they consider the album to be finished and ready to be manufactured and released on Autopop. In "No podemos volver a casa" we find echoes of two of their biggest influences: the sound of Spanish indie-pop cult bands like FAMILY and British indie-pop from other cult acts such as THE FIELD MICE, TREMBLING BLUE STARS or BRIAN; but there's also winks to other basic references or any sensitive pop lover, such as Harry Nilsson, THE LEFT BANKE or António Carlos Jobim and bossanova.

Moebius
Nurton
PS, US Mostly known for his collaborations w/ ENO & as a member of HARMONIA in the '70s. Here the 15 repetitive wordless tracks on- on his first solo album for 7 yrs ? are trance-inducing in their apparently unchanging state. This album shows an adrenaline overload of rock shorn of its fripperies; songs, beginnings, middles & endings. This is pure electronic current abstracted into riffs & textural sound poems. Moebius' refusal to over-polish his work supplies an unpredictable cutting edge.

Now People, The
The Last Great 20th Century Love Affair
PS, US Ric Menck's (Velvet Crush/Matthew Sweet) latest discovery has found a home on his own Bird Song imprint. After three years in suspended animation, The Now People have arrived with 12 diverse and meticulously crafted gems from a baroque pop netherworld. Recorded at the Wondermints' Studio Thru Inner Space, the debut album from The Now People challenges the listener to draw comparisons. They are simply like no other, now or since.
To everything there is a season, and the season of The Now People is upon us. Although the band traces much of its influence to the late monophonic era, their captivating harmonies and inventive arrangements, punctuated by an expansive use of major-seventh chords and smooth, hook-laden lyrics are totally state of the art. Stanley, Rubens, Gregory and Bragg are too knowing, too modern, to give in to lame retreads of the past.
• Album features guest appearances from members of The Wondermints, Brian Wilson's Band, Baby Lemonade/Arthur Lee's Love, Poi Dog Pondering and many others.

Secret Mommy
The Wisdom EP
PS, US What kind of mad genius could record a trip to the dentist to have their wisdom teeth pulled only to turn it into a CDs worth of awesome electronic tracks? SECRET MOMMY of course! Secret Mommy is the fax-warping alter ego of Ache Records head honcho Andy Dixon and "The Wisdom EP" is a mini album collection of amazingly creative tracks that includes remixes by Joshua Kit Clayton, Sun Ok Papi K.O of Sonig records and Piers Whyte of Ache records. Each track from The Wisdom EP flows together as a seemless mix offering a unique experience that won't soon be forgotten by its listeners. BIO: Secret Mommy is The beautifully strange, fax-warping alter ego of Ache Records head honcho Andy Dixon. Having played an integral part in the Northwest punk scene with bands D.B.S. and more recently the Red Light Sting, the work of Vancouverite Andy Dixon has always been rooted in DIY punk rock. Though his computer-based glitch project known as Secret Mommy is a departure from the abrasive guitar-work of his former bands, the approach is much the same. Andy creates music that sounds like the inside of a computer, with beeps and blurts and zaps and clicks perfectly organized, with the echo of techno's most complex moments vying for speaker time in the distant background The result is a polyrhythmic, visceral celebration of sporadic delight. A cut n paste exploration of activity and movement, obscured by mild absurdism.

Snakes and Music fills the gap between modern alternative bands like The Shins and Lucero to more classic favorites like SuperChunk and Built to Spill. Songs For Nao: 14 Bands From Japan
PS, AUSTRALIA For over 10 years Chapter Music's Guy Blackman has documented the music of the Australian pop underground. From the early days of releasing cassette tapes and fanzines, Chapter Music has gone on to release the music of dearly loved Australian artists such as Minimum Chips, Wagons and The Cannanes, as well as compiling the definitive Australian Post-Punk compilation Can't Stop It. It made sense then, that when Guy moved to Japan he would document the local scene in the same way he has done in Australia for so many years. Songs for Nao (pronounced "now") is a compilation featuring many of the incredible Japanese artists that Blackman fell in love with while living in Tokyo. Most of these artists work in a rarefied world of wide-eyed, folky psych-pop. Songs For Nao includes new tracks by Maher Shalal Hash Baz, Nagisa Ni Te, Tenniscoats, Kazumi Nikaidoh, Yumbo, Andersens, My Pal Foot Foot, Pervenche and more. Songs For Nao is a taste of an incredible music scene. Isolated from the music industry at large, these artists create genuinely inspired music, fresh even to the ears of the most conditioned music-geek. The release is accompanied by a full colour, 16-page booklet featuring extensive liner notes on each band, and beautiful photos by Eigo Shimojo (a member of Eepil Eepil, one of the bands on the compilation).

Springs, Re:Makes and Mixes Of RF
PS, US Electronica / Ambient / Dream Pop. RF is the musical moniker of Ryan Francesconi (b.1974 San Francisco), a multi-instrumentalist, media artist, and programmer in California. In his music, Francesconi blends organic instrumentation (voice, guitars, strings, horns, field recordings) with subtle glitchwork, pop sensibilities and his own software. The result is an intricate lattice where each sound, be it from a plucked string or a click of the mouse, is carefully and thoughtfully placed. RF's 3rd release, "Views of Distant Towns", was released on the Tokyo based Plop label in March 2006. In addition to performing and recording he is also the co-director of the San Francisco based Odd Shaped Case label (oddshapedcase.com) and the owner and lead developer for the sound software company, Spongefork (spongefork.com).

Another Electronic Musician
Patience (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE SEPTEMBER 5TH)
PS, US Another Electronic Musician follows up last years 'Use' (n5MD) with his sophomore outing 'Patience.' Never one to rest on his laurels or repeat himself, Jase Rex (Another Electronic Musician) has pushed beyond 'Use' to a place where the breadth of his sound has eclipsed expectations for an artists second full-length. Previous comparisons to Pole and Lusine are still present, but only in the very ends of their reverberation. "Patience" is a very dense album, culled from 36 original tracks, 10 of which where destroyed to create 'Patience's seamless journey. While still being playable track by track the album starts with the positive urban ambiance of "Waking at Noon" and ends with the intense hornet's swarm of "Pay," 'Patience' delivers exceptional forward movement without the use of overtly propelling beats or bass lines. Something akin to standing still as urban inhabitants pass you by at hyper-speed. 'Patience' is equally blurry and defined, if you utilize its virtues you will be rewarded by the vast spaces between.

The songs themselves, arranged with the intricate precision of a timepiece, are filled with rhythm patterns mirroring youth's reckless abandon, dissonant guitar washes & warm keyboards, all of which build to crescendos of dizzying heights. The narrative threads, coming-of-age vignettes interwoven with historical references from the Civil War to present day, are delivered in a patchwork of vocal melodies that are as memorable as any instrumentation on the album.

Let's Get Out of this Country (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE SEPTEMBER 5TH)
PS, SPAIN Camera Obscura new single with exclusive B-sides. Having just finished the UK tour, and ready to tour the USA during all the month of July, CAMERA OBSCURA are more active than ever after the release of "Let's get out of this country", their third album. And out of their country they will go, because this summer they're booked in some festivals, like Emmaboda in Sweden or Belladrum and Summer Sundae in the UK, as well as a short German tour and two shows in Spain in September (in Madrid and at the Lemon Pop festival in Murcia). Besides all this, we are glad to announce the forthcoming release (in September) of a new single taken from the album after that glorious "Lloyd, I'm ready to be heartbroken": this time, the chosen track from the album is the title track, "Let's get out of this country". As usual, the B-sides in both formats of the single (CD-single and limited edition 7") will be previously unreleased songs: except for the song on the B-side of the 7", which is the cover version of Sheena Easton's "Modern girl" the band recorded for the 80's covers album that went along with the latest issue of Q Magazine. The CD-single, then, will feature apart from the title track other two previously unreleased pop gems: "Lemon juice and paper cuts", and "Return to send her".

Electrice (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE SEPTEMBER 19TH)
PS, US She approached this album w/ the specific idea of recording all the songs in the same key & using the same guitar tuning. Catfish Haven
Tell Me (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE SEPTEMBER 12TH)
PS, US After releasing the critically acclaimed EP "Please Come Back" early in 2006, CATFISH HAVEN return more focused and more determined than ever to win your heart. You see with "Tell Me," their debut full length on SECRETLY CANADIAN, these three raw dogs named for singer GEORGE HUNTER'S childhood trailer park home have crafted one hell of a break-up record. Love is a confusing thing and it always leaves the mind with more questions than answers. Who is this woman that left Hunter so broken that he was inspired to pen ten soulful odes to this traumatizing break-up? Who dumped who? Will Hunter ever win her back? It's hard to tell as Tell Me captures the confusion, denial, sleepless nights, and the desperate pleas for love that can only be felt when the mind gives up control to the heart. Like OTIS sweating out "Pain In My Heart" or MARVIN begging "Please Stay", Catfish Haven are amongst few bands that can command a stage; keep a crowd up with a high energy live performance and still deliver such heartache. With the addition of smooth horn arrangements and even smoother back up vocals, "Tell Me," is the realization of what a heartbroken boy can do when given a little time and recording studio full of toys. GRAEME GIBSON was in charge of capturing all of this onto tape at Clava Studio in Chicago, Illinois, the city the band calls home.

David & the Citizens
Are You In My Blood (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE SEPT 12TH)
PS, SWEDEN New EP features 4 exclusive b-sides. IT'S A TRAP! REVIEW: "We Citizens fans now have an idea on what the band had been up to since "Until the sadness is gone"; and if you're familiar with the track "Big chill," this is not too dissimilar. More of a distorted raw tone all around, yet keeping the level aesthetics we have all grown to love and a minimal-yet-fleshed-out sound. The closer, "Sometimes forever" is one of the prettiest songs David Fridlund has written. He and The Citizens shine so brightly on this EP, they are a band that should never be eclipsed. I'll call this another triumph for the band and I cannot wait for the new full-length." (Matt Giordano)

DJ Shadow
The Outsider (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE SEPTEMBER 19TH)
PS, US A record that will confound those who believed they had Shadow pigeonholed. Working with several different vocalists, in styles spanning everything from hyphy, the Bay Area's newest hip hop hybrid, to folk; from aggressive hardcore rock to left-field alternative dance music, the album is an almost schizophrenic collection from an artist to whom loving music and making music are just two sides of the same coin. Features: Artifact (Instrumental), a relic of Shadow's work on an abandoned solo LP by former Rage Against The Machine front man Zack De La Rocha."3 Freaks",which features the hyphy emcees Keak DaSneak and Turf Talk, was the impetuous, inspired result of Shadow's love-at-first-listen affair with the Bay's answer to crunk. "Seein' Thangs", featuring Mississippi's finest, David Banner, Kasabian's Sergio Pizzorno and Christopher Karloff were introduced to Shadow by his engineer, and "TheTiger"was the standout result. Even Bay Area icon E-40 is in there, rapping about "the legendary DJ Shadow." Hip Hop Legend Q-Tip and Lateef The Truth Speaker are featured on the single "ENUFF" with UK crooner "Chris James" featured on the first single "You Made It."

El Hijo
Canciones Gringas (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE SEPTEMBER 5TH)
PS, SPAIN Cover versions tend to be based on someone else's work with the aim to present a more defined image of the interpreter. Ignoring the continuous attempts to underrate this form throughout rock's history, covers have assured their survival mainly thanks to the evolution of the interpreter's role, who rereads and remodels the original to serve their own understanding and diagnosis. Through a process of personalization which reinforces El Hijo's identity, Abel Hernandez (ex-singer of Migala, one of the best Spanish independent bands of all times) has managed to modulate his voice in the four cover versions found in this second release, overtly called Canciones Gringas (Gringo songs). It follows the first EP La piel del oso (Acuarela 2005) in which Abel Hernandez went back to the studio after Migala's amicable demise. Although both title and song selection show manifest reverence to certain musicians and models of North American rooted folk-rock highlighting the penetrating vision that El Hijo's music represents, the value of these four songs is intimately bound to the exhilarating narration/interpretation game and the final result is as complimentary as it is renovative.

Envy
Insomniac Doze (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE SEPTEMBER 12TH)
PS, US The year is 1991. The line between alternative and mainstream culture in America is irreparably blurred, just as a group of Japanese teenagers form an uncompromising thrash band half a world away, spitting 2-minute blasts of indecipherable terror for anyone that can stand the physical and emotional damage it willfully inflicts. Fast-forward fifteen years: Punk's corpse has been cannibalized to the bone and ENVY has irreparably blurred the lines dividing the various factions of hardcore. Still terrifyingly sincere, their songs are now life-affirming, triumphant portraits for anyone strong-willed enough to withstand the emotional epiphanies they inspire.

Foster, Josephine
A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE SEPTEMBER 12TH)
PS, US Now on 180 gram audiophile vinyl. STRICTLY LIMITED to 500 copies worldwide!
Over the course of just a few years, JOSEPHINE FOSTER has captivated audiences & critics alike through a magnetic patchwork of recordings ranging from broken spirited balladry (BORN HELLER), firey psych rock gestalt (All the Leaves are Gone) to the voice of an outsider folk siren (Hazel Eyes, I will Lead You). The two constants are the utterly overwhelming strength and seductive unease of her voice & the bravery of her iconocalstic spirit. For anyone else, what lies inside her latest offering, "A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing," might be a freakish turn but for Josephine Foster this is a grand part of a continual movement. And so it goes, "A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing" is a deeply absorbing, magical reconstruction of 19th century miniature German art song - the intimate sibling to operatic arias customarily performed in the parlor. The album floats in a wash of blissed out voice and electric guitar in an almost dreamlike fashion through a salon of her own invention. In a music where sacred cows roam the pastures a plenty, Foster pays tribute - on her own terms - and in the process makes a case for German as a new found romance language.

Fourcolor
Letter of Sounds (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE SEPTEMBER 26TH)
PS, US Following the release of his work as part of the electro-acoustic quartet Minamo on 12k (12k1031, 2005) and the proto-pop outing under his new moniker Filfla (Plop, 2005), Fourcolor (Keiichi Sugimoto) is back with his second release on 12k, Letter of Sounds. His previous work, Air Curtain (12k1029) was a critical success selling out the first pressing in little over one month. On Air Curtain, Fourcolor explored new directions, building upon delicate, implied rhythmic structures moving away from the strictly drone based material on his debut cd Water Mirror (Apestaartje, 2004). With Letter of Sounds Sugimoto pushes his sound even further by bringing the rhythms more to the foreground and taking influences from his previous, more pop-based work, as Filfla. The album uses many dominant rhythmic structures such as on the opener "02" which couples catchy guitar harmonic hooks with sliced melodic beats or the beautiful "Rowboat" in which Sugimoto collaborates with long-time friend Naoko Sasaki/Piana (Happy) using a variety of instrumentation and vocals. Similarly, a majority of the work on Letter of Sounds finds itself working around tight, syncopated micro-rhythms. Of course Letter of Sounds is not without its delicate undercurrents and warm, stretched-out, whispy tones that have become signature to Sugimoto's sound (the gorgeous finale "Frame"), but his desire for a more up-front and structured approach continues the evolution from a style he has mastered into new, more challenging territory, and expands his palette as an artist.

God Is An Astronaut
All Is Violent, All Is Bright (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE SEPTEMBER 26TH)
PS, UK God Is An Astronaut were formed in 2002 by brothers Niels and Torsten in Wicklow, Ireland. The band released their debut album 'The End of the Beginning' on their own label Revive Records in March 2003. Now with the worldwide release of the 'A Moment of Stillness' EP and their second album 'All Is Violent All is Bright' on UK label Rocket Girl, the band will finally see a proper release outside of Ireland. Their music and videos have received extensive play worldwide and at home, including major radio/TV shows (MTV - The Comedown, MTV2 - 120 Minute Show, TV3 - Law and Order, film ads; RTE - Fair City; Sky - ads for films and sports events) and countless online internet radio shows. Specifically in the UK, they have been played on BBC 6, XFM and Resonance FM. The title track from the EP, released as a single has already spent three weeks in the Irish top 40. Both CDs trademark God Is An Astronaut's extraordinary energy, emotion and tension, building from serene ambience to searing intensity. Torsten and Niels are joined on these recordings by drummer Lloyd Hanney (who was trained by the late jazz legend Johnny Wadham), making this album a much closer representation of their live sound. They are considered by many to be the most intense live act to emerge from Ireland in recent times. "Fragile, love it to bits....an incredible builder....it's amazing." Great Lakes
Diamond Times (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE SEPTEMBER 12TH)
PS, US GREAT LAKES formed around the songs of DAN DONAHUE and BEN CRUM in Athens, Georgia in 1996, but are currently based in Brooklyn. Their history goes back to 1990 when Dan and Ben, high school friends, started writing songs together, and soon after, met JAMEY HUGGINS, with whom they quickly bonded. The three eventually moved to Athens, where they put a band together and began playing live. With their third full-length album, "Diamond Times," the band's intention was to make an engaging, varied, and solid record; and to capture the organic feel and sound of a band playing together. That they've progressed and evolved as songwriters and musicians is immediately evident, as it's lyrically more direct and something of a new sound for them. The songs range in style from the synth-heavy and seemingly New Wave-influenced "Farther," to the saxophone-driven rock and roll of "Hot Cosmos," and on to the fiddle and steel guitar-oriented country sound of "Night Hearts" and "The Moon and the Lunatics." It all still sounds like Great Lakes, but they're into new territory here, and sounding better than ever.

Heavens
Patent Pending (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE SEPTEMBER 12TH)
PS, US Fans of Matt Skiba's other band, Alkaline Trio, are already spreading the word about Heavens. Mining that rich, dark vein of 1980's songwriting that's suddenly back on the radio with a vengeance, this debut allows Skiba to explore a different side of his songwriting, calling upon the influence of the Sisters Of Mercy rather than the Ramones or Misfits as with Alkaline Trio. His lyrics are as beautiful as they are eerie, his vocal melodies at once darkly hypnotic and intensely catchy, while collaborator Josiah Steinbrick builds great minimalist guitar parts in the tradition of Wire and New Order. Producer Ben Lovett adds ambient backdrops and lush string arrangements, making the whole a beautiful decaying masterpiece, catchy enough to bring Alkaline Trio's legions along for the ride, darkly angular enough to intrigue fans of Interpol.

Helen Love
Junk Shop Discotheque (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE SEPTEMBER 5TH)
PS, SPAIN At least we can see fulfilled one of our dreams: releasing an exclusive HELEN LOVE single on Elefant Records. They are one of the bands who have better used the pop aesthetics and the fascination we all have for the colourful icons in pop culture, and we love them for that. We love them since they came out more than ten years ago, when the riot grrrl sound was going on strong, with their first single and their tributes to Joey Ramone. The three girls from Swansea (lead by Helen herself, of course) were going to split up after they released the first single, but here they are (around twenty singles and four albums later), turned into one of the sensations of the international underground punk-pop scene. Purveyors of catchy melodic candies, exploding disco-indie-punk cut'n'paste, HELEN LOVE have been favourites of John Peel and Joey Ramone (who even invited them to play in New York, and to sing with him on one of his solo albums), their songs have been covered by ASH (they have even played with Tim Wheeler on aPeel Session) and they've been supported since they started by Everett True (Melody Maker, CTCL, Plan B). We are now sealing this relationship with a single in two formats: CD-single and 7" vinyl (pop music's own format); both in limited editions and luxury packagings (CD on digipack and pink coloured vinyl). HELEN LOVE have come up with three wonderful songs for this single: infectious bubblegum-pop for fun and all-night dancing. "Junk shop discotheque" is a glam-rock, punk-pop bomb with a disco flavour and vocoder vocals (with echoes of Suzi Quatro, DENIM and LA CASA AZUL), which will fill up dancefloors all over the globe. Even more frantic dancing is found on the remix of "Debbie loves Joey" (a love story between Debbie Harry and Joey Ramone, the original version of which appeared on the "The bubblegumkillers" EP, which was released on American label Sympathy For The Record Industry), whilst "Shut your mouth", the third song that completes this fantastic single, is a powerful melodic, guitar-pop pill. The cover on the single is by Punk Boy Jamie (who is usually behind the band's characteristic and immediately recognisable artwork, and their website, too), and the three songs have been mastered by Xavier Alarcón to guarantee you the best possible sound.

Mezzotint (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE SEPTEMBER 19TH)
PS, US A collection of digital, textured pieces assembled through the extensive manipulation of found sounds & environmental sources. A spontaneous, embracing mystery of faraway broadcasts & the internal experience; a clouded, busy music of vertical activity & blended, indistinct color as opposed to narrative uni-direction. employed by an increasing number of artists.

This 29-member (!) collective actually hail from Sweden and balance a facility for hooks with the intimacy and joy found in much of the best indie pop. On debut full-length Let Me Introduce My Friends, I'm From Barcelona imagine grand indie pop symphonies, replacing the tape hiss and squeaky guitars of musical ancestors the Softies and Tullycraft with multi-part harmonies, strings, horns, banjo, accordion, and kazoos, all while still scaring off anybody who gets carsick from precious songs about chicken pox and tree houses."

"Invasive Exotics" is a caption of both the founding fathers and the adjoining companions, the structure and the free form, the tidy and the messy. Renegades to traditional song structure, Indian Jewelry mix drum machine, noise, percussion, loops, dance beats, guitar, keyboards, and other sounds into an unpredictable mash of aural delights, drones, and melody. Last Days
Sea (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE SEPTEMBER 5TH)
PS, US Last Days' debut Sea brings to mind all those last moments of events in ones life. Moments which yield those confused emotions that endings and their subsequent beginnings bring. Sea has an implied lo-fi cinematic quality which makes it feel like the soundtrack to an old super-8 movie you may have stored in the attic, the only things missing are the musty smell of the cardboard box that the movies have been in all these years and the warm clatter of the old projector. The music on "Sea" is just that emotive, to conjure up such visual detail to how you are feeling. A slightly new direction for n5MD, Sea is neither strictly electronic nor acoustic. Last Day's utilizes both elements to conjure up a sound that is somewhat minimal yet musically rich, much like the more introspective moments of Port-Royal (Resonant) or Deaf Center (Type) 'Sea', is somewhat of a concept album about escaping modern life and all responsibilities that come with it. Based on mood and song titles "Sea" has a narrative running through it describing the foolish exploits of one disillusioned character as he recklessly travels north alone on a boat only to be lost, found and rescued but fearful that the urge to flee society and be alone again still remains. "Sea" is a beautiful, emotionally honest album that helps you remember all those last moments or even a way to escape them but if for a moment.

Madrugada
The Nightly Disease (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE SEPTEMBER 5TH)
PS, NORWAY With their second record, released in 2001, Norway's Madrugada eschews the epic bombast of their masterful debut, 'Industrial Silence', and instead finds discomfort in the bleakness and despair that is 'The Nightly Disease'. All Music Guide compares this to their debut sums it up perfectly: "The lyrics are more poetic, the songs are much more diverse, and the production is wonderfully dirty, giving the record a rather dangerous aura. It seems as if Madrugada has taken elements of the best bits from their past -- for example, the beautifully dark "A Deadend Mind" -- and combined them with a new rawness and energy found in "Nightly Disease Part Two," an intense, high-tempo song echoing depression. Like some of the best records ever made, it is not particularly accessible, but once you get into it, it is sure to make a lasting impression."

Madrugada
The Deep End (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE SEPTEMBER 5TH)
PS, NORWAY 2005 studio album from Norwegian foursome Madrugada. All Music Guide: "The Deep End is majestic beast of a record, even by Madrugada's not-too-humble standards. This album, their fourth since their 1999 debut, managed to establish them as an award-winning, platinum-selling thinking man's arena rock band in their native Norway... Unike its predecessor, 2002's Grit, there are few in-your-face Stooges-style rock tunes on The Deep End, and all for the better, really. The sound is definitely bigger here than on any of their previous albums, with many of the songs featuring Hammond organ, Wurlitzer piano, and pedal steel guitars plus plenty of guitar tracks by the ever-solid guitar twanger Robert Burås. This is a fine record, a return to form of some sorts, and it could be viewed as a more accessible sibling of 2001's great The Nightly Disease or a successful update of their debut. It's hard to say, but it is definitely a great mix of Madrugada's finest qualities as a band: the darkly epic songs, the tastefully twangy guitar playing, and the commanding vocals of Sivert Høyem. It may well be their crowning moment."

Madrugada
Grit (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE SEPTEMBER 5TH)
PS, NORWAY After the harrowing yet hypnotic depths of their second album 'The Nightly Disease' Madrugada set out to proof how hard they could rock once again. On 'Grit' (originally released in 2002) the band channels The Stooges and some of Scandinavia's most agressive garage bands. AMG: "Madrugada's third album in four years, Grit, starts off with a considerable swagger on two grimy rock numbers: "Bloot Shot Adult Commitment" and lead-off single "Ready." Sure, Madrugada's previous album, the dark The Nightly Disease, had its rockier moments, but nothing as in-your-face as this..."

Numbered Days (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE OCTOBER 3RD)
PS, US Numbered Days is the second album of luminous, infectious noise-pop by Los Angeles' The Meeting Places. On their sophomore record the quartet has written ten new songs that craftily combine melodic indie-pop with the tremulous soundscapes first explored on their debut Find Yourself Along The Way (Words On Music, 2003). Numbered Days was recorded at The Ship by Jim Fairchild (Grandaddy, Earlimart). With ten songs clocking in at thirty-three minutes, Numbered Days evokes a leaner, more urgent approach to songwriting, in the spirit of The Jesus and Mary Chain's Darklands or The Shins' Oh, Inverted World.

Nardwuar The Human Serviette Vs. Bev Davies
A 2007 Punk Rock Calendar (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE SEPTEMBER 12TH)
PS, CANADA "The best photo taker in the whole world" Stiff Little Fingers There are few photographers in this wonderful world who have taken pictures of both '60s garage punk legends, The Barbarians and hardcore heroes, The Dead Kennedys. In fact, I challenge you to find one! And if you did, it would be Vancouver, BC Canada's Bev Davies. I first met Bev at Joey Shithead of D.O.A.'s annual "garage sale" where she was selling some of her photos on his lawn. As I gawked at her pointed portraits of The Pointed Sticks, The Slits, Black Flag and The Rolling Stones, fascinating tales of the punk and the nonpunk rawkin' variety soon emerged. From Bev's early years growing up in Toronto, Ontario, (I was astonished to find out that Bev almost went to California with Neil Young on his famous hearse ride to hell!) to her subsequent relocation to Vancouver, BC, where she basically, from the late '70s to mid-'80s, shot everything that moved, the stories she told were so cool! Whether joining D.O.A. on many of their ground-breaking tours, flying to US Festival, or talking to John Lennon on the phone, this had to be documented! Not that it hadn't: Bev worked for a few years at Vancouver, BC's news and entertainment weekly, Georgia Straight, and was a contributor to Slash, Damaged, and tons of other fanzines. Nevertheless, I craved more. Hmmmm... Why not, with the help of Mint Records, create a 2007 PUNK PUNK ROCK CALENDAR to help quell my photographic fantasies? Yeah! Now, please view this calendar not as the final word on Bev's pics, but as the first step in the examination of one of the great chroniclers of our generation. Bev's photos help document the famous and unknown rock 'n' rollers of the 20th century, and without a doubt, combined with her amazing stories, provide a valuable resource for even the "casual" musicologist. But Bev's photos ain't for museums, they're for you and your wall! Keep on rawkin' in the free world! Have a good tea! Nastasia, Nina
On Leaving (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE SEPTEMBER 19TH)
PS, US The hauntingly beautiful new album arrives perfectly formed & long overdue. Nina's fourth album finds the hugely talented, NYC-based singer/songwriter at her best. Nastasia's rare gift of a voice is an intimate, winged presence that is able to either freeze or melt your heart, that can powerfully soar & twist, or brush ultra-gently against you, suddenly summoning goose bumps. Simultaneously tough & fragile, her songs crackle & smoulder with an intimate emotional honesty and a dark undertow.

Naysayer, The
Smoke Reality (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE SEPTEMBER 26TH)
PS, US The Naysayer's new record Smoke Reality was designed to mess up your mind. Anna Padgett is the Naysayer: a Texan/Louisianian Brooklyn transplant whose lyrics may shock you, confuse you, make you laugh out loud, turn red, or feel like puking. Despite the ganja vibe evoked by the title, you don't have to be on drugs to enjoy Smoke Reality. Anna's straight thoughts are way more psychedelic than your stoned ones. However, this is not to say that her songs don't sometimes stray towards the gay. If it's not working with a boy, she gets a girl: "Leave no stone unturned." And when Anna sings, "Why don't we do it on a leaf?" you might find yourself thinking, "That is so much sexier than doing it in the road." However, not every song is about the pansexual paradigm. All the human emotions get dressed up in Anna's poetic love: "Lose Yourself in Nature and Find Peace" is a city dweller's vision of spiritual nirvana; "Parents" is a politically-charged cautionary tale addressed to anyone who has ever had them. "I'm a Shark" is straight-up, "Don't Mess with Texas"-style punk; the title track conjures up visions of Judee Sill jamming with the Sea and Cake. Expertly recorded by Tara Jane O'Neil in the Oregon woods, with amazing drumming by Geoff Soule (Fuck) and additional instrumentation provided by Tara Jane and Elizabeth Venable, Smoke Reality challenges the unwritten rule of current music writing: classify, categorize, stick everything in a bag. In keeping with her previous four releases, the Naysayer continues to say no to facile codification. This is bagless music, people!Repeated listens of Smoke Reality reward the listener with new layers of melodic and lyrical complexity. Some of the best music demands an ounce of participation on the part of the listener. Listen carefully, and this album may speak to you about your own crazy life situation. It might also affect your dreams... Don't wait until you're dead to find out what you've been missing! Tracklisting: 1. smoke reality 2. parents 3. do it on a leaf 4. I'm a shark 5. hot headed hores 6. miss & hate 7. topanga 8. clean girl 9. insult to your manhood 10. don't look up at me 11. lose yourself in nature and find peace 12. leave no stone unturned 13. come back 14. love horse 15. fear menu. The Naysayer played the 2005 All Tomorrow's Parties festival in the UK, curated by Slint.• Naysayer collaborators, past and present, include Tara Jane O'Neil, Geoff Soule (Fuck), James Baluyut (+/-), Ruth Keating, Matt Sutton, and Karla Schickele (Ida), Miggy Littleton (Blood on the Wall, White
Magic), Kendall Jane Meade (Mascott)

No Wait Wait
About You (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE SEPTEMBER 12TH)
PS, US With the release of NO WAIT WAIT'S album "About You," CHAIRKICKERS' UNION MUSIC (LOW, KID DAKOTA, HALEY BONAR) deals up another glowing sign of Duluth, Minnesota's dense and entrenched music scene. "About You" is a straight up, literal diary of one relationship through music, reminiscent of BOB DYLAN'S "Blood on the Tracks" or similar in tone and vision to ROBBIE FULKS' "Couples in Trouble." "About You" is a difficult, honest record that curdles your blood and makes you cringe (in empathy), just as it wallops your heart and makes you dance. The album was recorded and mixed by BRENT SIGMETH (BIG WU, JAYHAWKS, KIM DEAL) in just over a week, partially at Pachyderm Studio (NIRVANA, PJ HARVEY, SON VOLT) and also at Sacred Heart Recording Studio (CRASH TEST DUMMIES, LOW).

PS, US Richard Bailey (aka Proem), has brought out the big guns with his fifth full length album, 'You Shall Have Ever Been'. He's been brooding, nitpicking and strategically thinking this record for over two near sleepless years. You'll find the usual Proem style stamped all over this 14 track masterpiece. He delves deeper into new areas expanding his already established sound palette. This record is perhaps his most technically beautiful, as well as his most deeply personal yet. We think its because of sleep delirium, he says he has gone controller and automation crazy. This double cd pack contains the full album and also a second bonus disc. Ruiz, Florencia
Cuerpo (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE SEPTEMBER 26TH)
PS, MEXICO Flo Ruiz has been selected for a feature on Paste magazine's forthcoming recommended new music download site. VERDIGRIS, a new Mexican label by the folks at Static Discos, starts with the debut from Argentinean composer Florencia Ruiz and her album 'Cuerpo'. Florencia Ruiz was born in Buenos Aires in 1977 and is considered as one of its leading musical proponents, outside the boundaries of conventional pop music. The musical work of Florencia Ruiz is aimed at the composition of songs, in the most classical sense. She has also created music for art installations and dance ensembles. Her music is a natural mix of contemporary and popular music, an ideal and personal search full of subtle arrangements for strings and piano. 'Cuerpo' is filled with restrained and minimalist spaces that create a soft and hard silences. Simple and complex, 'Cuerpo' is a recording clothed with clear words and strong soulful melodies. Her first two recordings, the 'Centro' EP and this album, were recorded in home equipment, and what shines through is the natural beauty of songs that were conducted and arranged in a simple manner. The casual ncorporation in the recording sessions of "found sounds", electronic clatter, guitars and improvised keyboards speak of a transparency in the writing process that Florencia Ruiz used when creating 'Cuerpo'. In her minimalist lyrics there is an evident torrent of emotion and introspection, which Florencia Ruiz refers to as "little phrases that want to paint something, with no strong or large meaning. Small phrases that tune themselves to the melodies of my voice" 'Cuerpo' is a conceptual album "in which all of the songs speak of the body", explains Florencia Ruiz, "they speak of different bodies, the child's body, the distance of bodies. The relation we have with bodies, the way we sometimes attack them, and not always in the physical sense, the space and shapes of things around us" The Verdigris release of 'Cuerpo' includes a remix by Murcof of the track 'Siberia'. Verdigris will release Florencia's second album, 'Correr', in 2007.

Eternity Spans (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE SEPTEMBER 19TH)
PS, US Song material & sounds derived from RS's live sets. In a sense, largely influenced by Bowie's Low album- pop songs set beside ambient pieces, but here differs from Low in that the ambient & pop songs are placed side by side. It also differs from that musical era most fundamentally because the sounds have emerged from the current musical environment in NYC, rather than mid-seventies prog rock. In this current arrangement, both Jesse Lee & Rusty sing while Rusty plays guitars & samples and Jesse plays the drums.

Sprites
Modern Gameplay (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE SEPTEMBER 5TH)
PS, US SPRITES is Jason Korzen (formerly singer/songwriter of BARCELONA) and his wife Amy Korzen sharing vocals. Ivan & Christian (also formerly of BARCELONA) help out. Modern Gameplay is as full of new wavey, often self-efacing, eletronic pop songs (with guitar) as classic Barcelona CDs Zero One Infinity and Transhuman Revolution. As fans of punk/pop & new wave (1978-81) SPRITES pay homage to a distinct group of the period's artists: The Suburban Lawns, Gleaming Spires, Sparks, DEVO ...mostly the great Suburban Lawns! The SPRITES sound shows Jason's love for the original new wave art rockers while the themes are contemporary, just as they were with Barcelona (see the song titles below). It's 1978. Be the first at your school to cut your hair short and wear 501s, Vans, and a thirft shop JC Penney's Oxford buttondown shirt. Awesome cover art reminiscent of Some Girls by Mark Robinson, TeenBeat Graphica. Track list: 1. Bionic Hands, 2. George Romero, 3. I Started a Blog Nobody Read, 4. Overclockers of the World Unite, 5. Steinbruchel
Stage (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE SEPTEMBER 26TH)
PS, US Stage is Steinbrüchel's second full-length solo release on LINE. The album contains 10 scenes that move between warm organic and melodic digitalized sounds and cold crystalline-like sparks. The sounds and compositions are even more detailed and have a more melodic approach then previous recordings by Steinbrüchel. Single isolated and stretched tones are structured together with smaller loops and particles of clicks and noises into dense atmospheres. Parts of the sounds used in several scenes are based on piano recordings by Bernd Schurer and/or guitar recordings by Tomas Korber. For the first time Steinbrüchel has used and processed recordings of acoustical instruments to this extent in his compositions. Stage brings to life once again a collection of precise and carefully composed structures and textures, which are formed into different scenes where they all interweave with each other. All the tracks were composed in 2005 for the interactive dance performance HYBRIDOME, produced by Avventure in Elicoterro Prodotti - Ariella Vidach AiEP. The tracks on the CD release are in a different order and are also structured differently than the actual still unfinished dance performance. Ralph Steinbrüchel, born in 1969, studied Communication Design at Central Saint Martins School in London, where he acquired a Masters of Arts and Design with distinction. He now lives and works as a musician and graphic designer in Zurich, Switzerland. In 2002 his composition zwischen.raum [domizil] was distinguished with the Max Brand Award for Electronic Music [phonoTAKTIK.02 Festival, New York]. In the same year he received a compositional scholarship from Pro Helvetia, Arts Council of Switzerland, to work on his release circa [LINE, US].

Winter Flowers
S/T (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE SEPTEMBER 5TH)
PS, US Attacknine Records is proud to present the misty mountain sounds of Winter Flowers and their self-titled debut album. Welcome to the gentle world of Winter Flowers (Gavin Toler, Christof Certik, Astrid Quay, Sasha Smith, and Evan Conway), a soft musical oasis of guitars, flutes, mandolins, glockenspiels, harpsichords, and soaring three-part vocal harmonies. Here you will find a space of fragile delights for the seeker of higher musical realms, an oasis in which the familiar earthiness of the folknik and the other-worldliness of the psychedelic pilgrim combine with the lost harmonies of the Golden Age to create a gentle solace for the ringing, rock-weary ear. In the new garden of folk, The Winter Flowers inhabit a corner all their own, singing songs laced with romance and fantasy, informed by the mist, mountains, and sea - the natural beauty of their native Pacific West Coast home. Winter Flowers have been casting their unique spell since 2001, first in Seattle, then San Francisco, and now in Los Angeles. They have been equally at home playing for rock audiences, such as heavy-rock heroes Dead Meadow (who have described Winter Flowers as "the other side of the same coin"), and for the more folk-friendly audiences, such as for the likes of Lavender Diamond and Joanna Newsom, with whom they have also shared billing. They currently play extensively in the L.A. area, and have toured the west coast with psychedelic prog-rockers, Silver Sunshine. Notable L.A. appearances include; Arthur Magazine's now-famed ArthurFest and ArthurBall, the Winter Garden Music Festival at Spaceland, a recent weekly residency at the Tangier, and KCRW's On-Air with Devendra Banhart. They also performed at SXSW for Arthur Magazine's showcase at The Church of the Friendly Ghost. Between shows up and down the west coast, they have been working on recording a second album and are diligently writing new songs for a third. They plan to tour more extensively as soon as their current recording projects are finished. "The Winter Flowers are not part of any scene. They have always existed within an alter-domain, one that is setting up camp on the outskirts of town, where all are invited to partake in their ancient atmosphere and haunted other-worldly melodies" - Devendra Banhart. "Lovely! [Winter Flowers' Album] is authentic beauty in the midst of our time of ugly" - Michael Simmons (L.A. weekly / Arthur Magazine).

A sparse & delicately hushed electric/acoustic look into the lives of a couple exploring their own personal relationships between themselves, the town that they live and work in and the people with whom they interact with on a daily basis. Darker than their new material for sure. Until now this record has only been available locally. A must have for fans of the Secret Stars & Ida.

Woven Hand
Mosaic (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE SEPTEMBER 12TH)
PS, US Free of any boundaries (like saving songs for 16 HORSEPOWER) DAVID EUGENE EDWARDS delivers "Mosaic." His 4th WOVENHAND album and his masterpiece. The album again was put to tape by ROBERT FERBRACHE, a one-time lap-steel player in 16 HP who runs Absinthe Studios in Denver. He doesn't stray much from his signature sound: mournful, minor key dirges within which Edwards ruminates on his recurring themes of faith, the fallibility of man, and the folly of the non- believer. But on "Mosaic" he unleashes a maelstrom of intensity and conviction that is as captivating as it is deeply spiritual. This is it. The one. It's magical, dark, mysterious, sinister and gorgeous.

Xiu Xiu
Air Force (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE SEPTEMBER 12TH)
PS, US It's a feverish & disturbing set of 11songs but just the same, it's some of the group's most accessible: producer Greg Saunier's (Deerhoof) multi-instrumental wizardry, Davis Horvitz' kotowork, Devin Hoff's bass, Nedelle's violin, right down to Jamie & Caralee McElroy's lyrics & vocals. It's the kind of humanity we can all relate to. (Make it through Caralee's feminist/dependency tone poem"Hello from Eau Claire" without feeling her frustration, and there might be something wrong inside you).

He perfectly channels the emotionally charged "Revolution Summer" era Dischord bands like Embrace or Rites of Spring, as equally as he does Black Flag or Negative Approach, while taking note of several other noise & indie pioneers, Sonic Youth & My Bloody Valentine along the way.
