PS, US Roaring through 16 jagged, misshapen pieces of punk
rock in less then 30 min., Tokyo's 2UP sweat & wiggle

is the primary material Agnish performed in 2000/2001 in
New York City, Toronto & Philadelphia bars/clubs and

Sufjan Stevens, who backed him on piano, analog keyboards & melodica.
Jai has worked with & is associated with Stevens, Danielson,
Half-Handed Cloud, etc. He appeared on the Mews Too Asthmatic
Kitty compilation & is considered part of that family
of musicians. "Agnish writes introspective, subdued,
lo-fi indie-rock songs in which he incorporates fuzzed-out
feedback, kids' toy samples, drum machine beats, and straightforward,
melodic guitar work." -Village Voice

Alasehir
Sharing The Sacred
PS, US John Gibbons-Guitar, Tamboura, Michael Gibbons-Guitar,
Sitar, Michael Zanghi-Drums, Percussion. Alasehir is the
project of Bardo Pond brothers John and Michael
Gibbons with drummer Michael Zangha. Unlike the Gibbons'
project Alumbrados, also being released on Important at
the same time, Alasehir is more rock oriented, establishing
a heady, heavy groove and jamming on it throughout. "The
ear of the musician detects a certain musical note in every
city which is different from that of another city. He hears
in each street a new melody, and to him the sound of wind
in the treetops of different forests gives a varying sound.
In the Desire World, seemingly, SOUND PROCEEDS FROM FORM.
But in the music of ALASEHIR it is different, for while
each form occupies and obscures a certain space there,
form is nonexistent when viewed from the standpoint of
ALASEHIR. Where the form was, a transparent vacuous space
is observable. FROM THAT EMPTY VOID COMES A SOUND which
is the "keynote" that creates and maintains the
form whence it APPEARS to come, as the almost invisible
core of a gas-flame is the source of the light we perceive." Michael

A Garden Of Vipers
PS, US Much different than the lumbering jams of Alasehir
are the drenched ethno-drones of Alumbrado. Featuring Bardo
Pond's John & Michael Gibbons on guitar, sitar,
cumbas and various percussive instruments as well as Michael
Zanghi and Aaron Igler with additional electronics and
percussion. Alumbrados is a beautiful, rhythmic and tremendously
arranged psychedelic experience. "Alumbrados investigations
are as thorough and as reliable as researches by material
scientists, but not as easily demonstrable to the general
public. Spiritual powers lie dormant within every human
being, and when awakened, they compensate for both telescope
and microscope, they enable their possessor to investigate,
instanter, things beyond the veil of matter, but they are
only developed by a patient application and continuance
in well doing extended over years, and few are they who
have faith to start upon the path to attainment to perseverance
to go through with the ordeal. " Michael Gibbons

Art Ensemble of Chicago
Non-Cognitive Aspects of the City- Live at Iridium
PS, US This 2xCD set captures the quintet in the midst
of a five-day stretch at the Iridium in New York. Made
up of music from the weekend sets, the CD documents the
band performing as a quintet for the first time since the
early 90s. With chanted vocals by Joseph Jarman, funky
vamps, classic material, hard-bop, open explorations, and
a dedication to a past comrade, this disc continues documentation
of one of America's greatest treasures. With the front
line once again filled out as it was in the beginning,
the band stretches out, interacts & enlivens the music
in the manner that has influenced everyone from Vandermark

Black Merda
S/T
PS, US Hailing from late-60s Detroit, Black Merda (pronounced "Murder")
were both aesthetically and musically way ahead of their
time. When most black groups (including Parliament/ Funkadelic)
were still sporting suits, singing about love and using
a horn section, Black Merda had already become a tight
guitarheavy freak-funk four piece. By weaving guitar rock
and psychedelia into soul and R&B they were the gods
of the underground "black rock" movement which
fell somewhere between Jimi Hendrix and Parliament and
MC5. But it wasn't just about the music the message was
just as important. As with the original release, features
a 30-second 11th track not mentioned in the track listing
on the outer sleeve but present on the album.

Bricolage
Footsteps/Flowers Of Deceit
PS, UK The Creeping Bent Organisation is delighted to announce
the release of the debut single by Bricolage, "Footsteps" / "Flowers
of Deceit". Bricolage is the latest and greatest Scottish
export since Orange Juice, heralding a return to the golden
era of Postcard records. Taking their cues from the sights
and sounds of this period, Bricolage's debut single is
a refreshing reminder of all things good and well in today's
indie scene: taught guitars, wry lyrics, joyful melodies
and an arresting line in Argyll jumpers all make for an
entertaining live show and even more infectious listening.
Alex Kapranos has already declared his allegiance, and
the NME, Steve Lamacq and Artrocker are on their case too.
Punk legend Vic Godard has been approached to produce the
group's second single, which is slated for release in late
Summer. Already fast making a name for themselves on the
live circuit, Bricolage has opened for the likes of the
Fire Engines at Triptych, The Long Blondes and 1990s. "Bricolage
are brilliant...like Postcard-era Orange Juice with a real
dark twisty edge...they're very cool." Alex Kapranos

PS, US A sweet period piece from the FMP ARCHIVE (FMP1050),

ALBERT MANGELSDORFF & GUNTER "BABY" SOMMER. "I
remember at one period when Han Bennink couldn't make the
gigs - he was playing with Misha most of the time - Albert
and I had a trio with Fred Van Hove, and we used to play
in a little bar in Cologne which was run by the son of
Päffgen brewery, a famous little brewery where Kölsch
is brewed. It was equipped with an upright piano and a
20-liter barrel of fresh beer, which was empty after the
gig. Albert's generosity and open-mindedness, compared
to many other jazz musicians in the period, was remarkable.
When he started working with crazy Brötzmann and Bennink,
some of his colleagues gave him a very hard time. But I
think he profited from our work the same way we did from
his experience and musicality."-Peter Brötzmann,

Buffalo
Dead Forever
PS, US REPRESS. 1970s Australian hard rock band became
very successful in Europe in the 1980s thanks to 3 heavy
LPs for the Vertigo label (the first non-English group
to record for the label). The first, 1972's "Dead
Forever," sold 25,000 copies becoming an immediate
classic of the genre. Upon the album's release the Vertigo
office in Holland proclaimed "Dead Forever is better
in quality, production and tunage than Black Sabbath's
Vol. 4 - which is no slouch: hear it, if you haven't already".
Like Black Sabbath, Buffalo was also criticized for their
controversial covers & supposed satanic content (they
chose a scarred, blood stained face, while the inside album
features a rather macabre photo of the band in a Sydney
cemetery), but also like their English cousins it was the
band's hardrocking guitar heavy sound that would prevail.
Tracks include a cover of Blues Image's "Pay My Dues" and
Free's "I'm A Mover". Some members of Buffalo
went on to
form COUNT BISHOP - a blues rock band in the vein of Dr.

Cameran
A Caesarean
PS, US Rousing today's zeitgeist, Cameran can best be described
as encapsulating the sonic blend of Jack Kerouac's contagious
zest for life and Yves Klein's wild and reckless attempts
of jumping out of windows, experiencing movement through
air. Subtly, silence and controlled detonations are carefully
arranged, communicating in such a way that a dynamic tension
is generated, working similarly to a dialectic screw that
moves straight up in time and space releasing the synthesis
between the two opposing poles - the quadrate of the circle.
With this in mind, the musical structure is favorably comparable
to classical music in terms of how it is both written and
arranged. Cameran have created their dynamics with a sense
of playfulness by switching from soft, rippling sounds
and beats to a limitless rage with an immeasurable capacity
of energy.

band an air of mystery, however, this American band is
of no relation to their famous English counterparts. Coven

Reminiscent of artist Jeff Buckley, Sondre Lerche, and

voice has the emotional resonance of Jeff Buckley's (without

His delicate but lush music recalls that of Tim Buckley,

who surrounded their basic guitar chords with layered arrangements..."

A Rock In The Snow
PS, US Together Chris Corsano and Paul Flaherty have re-written
the concept of modern free-jazz with their post-hardcore
punk style approach of euphoric togetherness. Ferocious,
spontaneous, explosive and aggressively lyric they've established
their groundbreaking duo with loads of shows and a host
of tremendous recordings. When tales of C. Spencer Yeh's
Burning Star Core project reached Corsano/Flaherty the
duo were eager to see him jam. Fortunately, fate brought
them together at the DeStijl/Freedom From festival where
Corsano/Flaherty were playing in the Dream/Aktion Unit
(with Thurston Moore) and Yeh was there with Burning Star
Core. His performance caught the Corsano/Flaherty duo on
fire and Yeh's temperature was raised (literally) when
he suddenly came down with the flu following his show.
Fortunately for Yeh, Flaherty packed him in ice down in
the festival hall basement and a solid relationship was
forged. Lives were saved. Jams ensued. The power trio of
Flaherty/Corsano/Yeh was formed. Liner notes by John Olson

Dealin Decks
PS, US Follow-up EP to 2001's Southern Gentlemen, could
be described as "cowpoke doom."It's no surprise
that the predominate style is southern by the grace of
God rock but what gives the band distinction are the traces
of classic doom to their songwriting. Imagine the Allman
Brothers on acid lost in the Grand Canyon.

Glaxo Babies
Dreams Interrupted: The Bewilderment Years
PS, UK The Glaxo Babies were born in the winter of 1977
shortly after the death of Elvis and at the tail end of
the first wave of Punk. This compilation takes you on a
journey through their life and out the other side and will
leave you wondering why they weren't huge! Taking their
inspiration from the likes of William Burroughs, Captain
Beefheart, and Krautrock, it wasn't long before they were
in the vanguard of the new Bristol music scene. They sat
along side Wire and the Gang of Four - nobody else sounded
anything like them, songs like "Who Killed Bruce Lee", "This
is your Life" and the legendary "Christine Keeler".
John Peel quickly got hooked offering sessions and a even
rare chance to play at one of his much lamented road shows.
Within a few gigs they were supporting The Only Ones, Adam
and the Ants and the Cure. Those who experienced the savage
intensity of their live performances, saw Dan Catsis playing
guitar with a vibrator and Rob Chapman cutting himself
with a glass....a hard act to follow. They released two
albums on the Bristol based Heartbeat Records, both which
made the Top 20 of the Independent charts in 1980. They
were pre punk, post-punk, and not punk -
Listening to bands like Franz Ferdinand and The Kaiser
Chiefs? take note, we've heard it all before - 27 years
ago.

PS, US This shows him at his most powerful, stretching
out stylistically on each song & defying what we've

the R&B beats matched by Adam's deep drawl, said he'd
never heard anything like it.

PS, US Domestic release for The Knife's third album (we

electro-pop groover, a techno-rock supernova... PITCHFORK:
Ditching the springy Europop of 2004's Deep Cuts, Sweden's
the Knife here pits dark, ghostly electro backdrops against
elastic vocals, which they mash through a wringer of digital
manipulation. A far cry from the duo's friendly first singles,
Silent Shout gorily births the Knife's mutant twin. The
result is creepy enough to warrant its own genre: haunted
house."... STYLUS MAGAZINE: "While it lasts Silent

Menche, Daniel
Jugularis
PS, US Imagine yourself riding on cells coasting through
your body's veins. The sound of the heart grows stronger
like a beating drum as you're pulled closer. Suddenly,
you're embraced by this giant pulsating muscle and when
you're finally released back into the veins you can hear
it's sound fading slowly, but still growling with the same
intensity that it has beat with for eternity. Jugularis
is the soundtrack to this ride and like your heart it's
packaged in blood: the ultimate symbol of life and intensity.
Recently Daniel Menche has embraced more percussion based
sound to create music that manipulates the listeners blood
flow and intensifies the listening experience. Jugularis
still contains a distinctly Menche sound yet being that
it's intensely rhythm and percussion based it's extremely
different from anything that he has created prior. Never
before has Daniel Menche's mantra of "If Music is
like blood then make the speakers bleed" been so appropriate.

Moritmer
Mortimer
PS, UK Despite the reputation surrounding their highly
sought-after 1968 LP, New York quartet Mortimer are probably
best remembered for their association with The Beatles'
Apple empire. Indeed they recorded a whole album with Peter
Asher in 1969 which remains unreleased to this day, largely
due to the arrival of Allen Klein at Apple and his culling
of several projects. It wasn't the first time that Klein
had axed the release of an album by the band. In 1966 the
pre-Mortimer garage rock band The Teddy Boys were signed
to the Cameo Parkway label where they issued two fine and
furious singles and cut an album's worth of material. Klein
entered the picture at Cameo in 1967 and nixed the release
of the album. Regardless of these misfortunes, The Teddy
Boys were hot property in the New York clubs and were soon
signed up by B,B & D Productions, a company co-run
by Englishman Daniel Secunda, brother of notorious UK pop
manager Tony Secunda. They installed the band at their
trendy manhattan night club, Arthur, and gave them a flat
where they wrote new material in a more acoustic an d melodic
vein. An album was duly recorded for Mercury using this
acoustic approach and a couple of promo singles lifted.
The irresistable opener "Dedicated Music Man" received
heavy airplay in the New York area and the album reportedly
sold 35,000 copies. Secunda suggested the band visit England
in the summer of 1968 and they did so, securing the Apple
contract almost immediately when George Harrison heard
them play a floor show in the Apple offices. But that's
another story... Re-issued for the first time on any format
anywhere ever! Features rare bonus tracks and single mixes!
Features in-depth liner notes and brand new interview material
by Apple/psych authority Stefan Granados! A true collector's
item and a must for all fans of late '60s pop-psych, soft
rock, folk-rock and of course The Beatles!

Tooth & Claw
PS, US A thrilling, beautifully jumbled rush & gush
of ideas & emotions. With their campfire clap-alongs & skewed

record. The band's fusion of disparate sounds, influences & approaches
forms a unique whole that is very much their own. Performing

self-inflicted damage of the noise threatening to spew

Peter Bjorn And John
Writer's Block
PS, SWEDEN *HIGHLY RECOMMENDED / LIMITED STOCK* Peter Morén
from Dalarna in the North of Sweden and Björn Yttling
from Västerbotten - even further to the North - had
been playing music together for 8 years when they in 1999
met John - from Norrbotten - which would you believe it
is yet even further to the North! The following year they
started a band and simply called it Peter, Bjorn and John
- not due to lack of better names - but because it felt
right. Band names are often ridiculous - so why not just
go for your own name? First they thought that they would
recruit a bass player but after the well known saying "3
is a crowd" thus more than enough - the keyboard player
Björn began playing bass. Live the band have learned
to use the little format to its advantage and in the studio
well let's just say they have been known to do overdubs...!
Initially all the press they got had to do with Björn's
production resume and the members different guest appearances
on other more well known bands and artists records. But
soon that would change. In 2002 the home recorded self
titled debut album was released and received comments from
the press regarding "superior sound beds" and "upcoming
classics" while songs like "Matchmaker" and "People
They Know" became favourites with the indie pop crowd.
Rough Trade in London even penned "nothing else sounds
as good in Swedish pop right now" and were probably
not completely mistaken. 2004 saw the follow up with the
more complete, mature and darker "Falling Out". "It
beats me everytime" became a Swedish radio hit and
the album was released Stateside the following year to
press acclaim. Allmusic.com gave the album 4,5 stars and
wrote: "very close to the best indie rock -- no, just
plain music -- being made in 2005. More punk than the Concretes,
less frantic than Shout Out Louds, as catchy as the most
tuneful of the UK post-post-post-punk merchants. Falling
Out firmly established Peter, Bjorn and John as a group
to watch out for. Skrike that. They are a band that has
arrived in all senses of the word". Now in 2006 PBJ
embark on the second phase of their careers. The new album "Writer's
Block" (recorded in Björn's studio in Hornstull,
Stockholm) is the first to showcase all three members as
songwriters and taking on lead vocalist duties and sees
the band take on a new musical direction.

What Do I Wish For Now? Singles + Extras 1994-2004 (PRE-ORDER:
SALEABLE SEPT. 17TH)
PS, UK 19 tracks. LTM are pleased to present the first
ever singles compilation by cult Californian indiepop combo
Aberdeen, the Sarah Records signing featuring Beth Arzy
(of Trembling Blue Stars) and John Girgus (Languis). What
Do I Wish For Now? is a 69 minute, 19 track collection
featuring all tracks from their five singles on Sarah Records
and Tremelo Arm Users Club released between 1994 and 2004,
as well as three extra tracks from rare compilation albums.
The booklet also features a detailed band history and a
wealth of rare images. Standout tracks include Super Sunny
Summer, Sink or Float and the Boy Has Gone Away. Also included
are covers of songs by The Field Mice and Biff Bang Pow.
Band history: Aberdeen formed in California in 1994, and
released their first two eps (Byron, Fireworks) on cult
UK indie Sarah Records as a three piece. After a four-year
hiatus, John and Beth regrouped in 2000 to record three
further singles (Sink or Float, The Boy Has Gone Away,
Florida) and their sole album to date, Homesick & Happy
to Be Here (2002). Their music appeared in several editions
of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, in which the band themselves
appeared in Season 7.

Acetate Zero
Somehow About Perfection (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE JULY 17TH)
PS, US 180-gram limited vinyl 12" (black vinyl, 300
copies worldwide). LIMITED TO 300 COPIES WORLDWIDE! One
of the inaugural releases on the brand new limited-vinyl-only
label Claire's Echo (a division of Clairecords) comes 4
exclusive tracks from the brilliant Acetate Zero. Acetate
Zero formed in Paris, France in 1996. In the early stages
of the band, they mimicked the sounds of a meeting with
Disco Inferno and The Dead C. Over the last ten years,
they have subtly yet exquisitely expanded on, minimized,
and perfected their gorgeous timbre. Surely you will hear
elements of Bedhead, Mogwai, and other such name-droppings.
But they also incorporate electronic elements, loops and
skittering additives, much like mid-to-late period Hood,
perhaps. However, theirs is a sound that is all their own
- one for late nights and grey skies and mournful beauty.
The first single appeared in 1998, followed shortly in
1999 by their debut album 'Softcore Paradise' - released
in an edition of 200 vinyl-only copies and selling out
almost instantly. This album has since been reissued via
US label Drumkid Records (originally slated for Slumberland
Records but did not happen for reasons-unknown). As the
band puts it, their finely honed and perfectly refined
sound was now "A certain melancholy post lo-fi air
of nothing." Several singles later, the group emerged
with their second album 'Ground Altitude' in 2002, followed
by 'Crestfallen', their 3rd album, in 2004 - both albums
released on French label Arbouse Recordings. Again, these
albums are now out of print and Acetate Zero leaves the
masses yearning for more. Acetate Zero's performance are
rare, less than two dozen in their decade of existence.
However, during that time, they have played with Album
Leaf, Encre, The New Year, Empress, and even took part
in festival MO' FO # 4. Most recently they have toured
with Rothko, intended to coincide with the release of Somehow
About Perfection, but alas the stars did not align. Clearly,
with the releases of Acetate Zero, the supply does not
meet the demand. So what do we do? We offer to release
a collectible, limited edition 12" record in a pressing
of merely 300 copies. No more to be repressed ever. And
it is with that, dear reader/listener, that we usher you
to procure your copy before your next breath, your next
blink, before you are too late... issued in 200 black vinyl,
100 grey vinyl, limited for life. Beautiful die-cut jacket
designed by Aaron Winters, includes reversible full-size
color insert.

continued in this vein, but his thoughtful lyrics and intimate
performance style endeared him not only to the chill out
tendencies of the Rave cohorts, but to the European audience...and
so it was that one of the finest Gentlemen Adventurers
of Rock n Roll was taken to the bosom of the French: "big

Audience
S/T (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 22ND)
PS, US Audience is one of the most interesting groups in
the British panorama of the late 60s/early 70s. Their sound
was a manifestation of their desire to experiment with & masterfully
blend different musical styles, such as rock, folk, jazz & blues.
If we must make comparisons, Jethro Tull immediately leaps
to mind, particularly for the band's use of flute. Audience
gained moderate notoriety thanks to their constant gigging & they
soon released this 1969 self-titled debut, which featured
an excellent use of (predominantly acoustic) guitar (Howard
Werth) and equally high-quality flute, sax & clarinet
playing (Keith Gemmell), not to mention the distinctive
voice of Werth, and their simple, but effective arrangements
(in a period when pomp prog rock reigned supreme). "Maiden's
Cry," brings to mind "Stairway To Heaven," but
it was actually written 2 years before the Zeppelin-penned
opus. An excellent debut here feat. 3 bonus tracks.

Just Another Diamond Day (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 1ST)
PS, US **NOW ON VINYL! ** 9.0 ON PITCHFORK!! Vinyl (+7" of
bonus tracks) reissue for legendary pastoral folk album. "About
5 years after briefly surfacing as part of Andrew Loog
Oldham's (Rolling Stones) stable, Vashti, now billing herself
w/her full name, Vashti Bunyan, made her only album. A
folkier & more serious minded effort than her initial
mid-'60s recordings, it is a pleasing yet overly dainty
slice of British rock tinged folk, produced by Joe Boyd
. A certain similarity to some other acts under Boyd 's
supervision, such as the Incredible String Band & Fairport
Convention , was assured by contributions from the ISB
's Robin Williamson and Fairport 's Dave Swarbrick & Simon
Nicol . For good measure, there were string & recorder
arrangements by Robert Kirby , who had done some string
arrangements for Nick Drake , another Boyd -produced artist.
Comprised solely of original material &contained dignified
yet slightly sad ruminations w/a pastoral, indeed rural
feel, imbued w/ images of solitary meditations upon rain,
wind, sunsets, & open fields. The drum-less, acoustic
arrangements yielded an intimate ambience well-suited for
Vashti's fragile, measured, almost despondently wispy vocals.
CD reissue of this rarity (on Spinney) is enhanced by four
bonus tracks that, w/an oh-so-slight poppier bent, actually
rate as the best material on the disc." -Richie Unterberger,

Caseworker, The
When I was a Young King (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 7TH)
PS, US Reference Points: Beta Band, American Analog Set,
Yo La Tengo, Radar Bros., Seam. [the] caseworker's core
is made up of Conor and Eimer, a man and woman who grew
up in Ireland, met in Dublin, moved together to Newcastle
and finally settled in San Francisco in the nineties. All
the while they were falling in an out of love while forming
and dissolving their previous band, Half Film. They are
joined by Monte (Swell) and Will (For Stars) on When I
Was A Young King. "Their brand of tunes descends from
the old shoegazer movement, bands like Slow Dive and Ride,
Galaxie 500 and Mazzy Star. It's simple music on the surface,
verse-chorus-verse stuff, a swollen mix of fuzzy, reverberated
guitars, languorous drumming, gentle bass lines, and brisk,
slightly raspy vocals. But that's just the surface." -SF
Weekly. "[the] caseworker extract dreariness from
inside whispery, ambient pop... completely enraptured and
awesomely dazed" - Rolling Stone. "weave threads
of classic dream pop and indie rock for a majestically
layered sound...an atmosphere both lush and florid...It's
simply gorgeous." - All Music Guide. "literate,

Happy Hollow (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 22ND)
PS, US Their most recent record, "The Ugly Organ",
racked up considerable accolades: named one of 2003's best
records by Blender, called "the best album of [the
band's] career" by the NY Times, and given a 4-star
rating by Rolling Stone. "Happy Hollow" is an
expansion of their trademark discordant swell, marked by
a new bounce, a buoyant strut, and a recognition that hey,
this is fun. Dissonant yet distinctively melodic guitar
sounds and front man Kasher's ever-cathartic yowl now mesh
and clash with horns, piano, accordion, and other instruments.
The themes addressed here include shattered American dreams,
small town malaise, and religious hypocrisy. Never repeating
themselves, always pushing forward artistically, and never
settling,

flourishes throughout the album. At times the band sounds
like Syd Barrett & at other times they evoke the ultra-sheenmelodicism
of the French band Air. Their strong guitar work is laced
with harpsichord, strings, and backward recordings; carefree
lyrics, sometimes stream of consciousness psychedelia,
reach the ear with simple yet irresistible vocal harmonies
straight out of the British Isles of 1967.

Awake & Dreaming (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 29TH)
PS, US Awake, the first half of the album, is the band
as the band- the three main members playing their songs
live, with minimal experiments/production frill. With Awake,
the band presents its stripped down violin/bass/drums sound,
just as one might encounter in the normal live setting.
Dreaming, a long-brewed idea of surrealism & the subconscious,
finds the band under no limitations, representing both
dreams as songs & songs as dreams. Adding to the mix,
Dreaming is chock full of instruments, noises & voices
(cello, viola, piano, a door, flute, trombone, saxophone,
trumpet, twigs, keys, organ, bells) creating an ever changing,
occasionally hallucinatory flow of moods & imagery. "I've
never heard post-punk with violin before & damned if
it doesn't work fairly well... A great combination of tone & texture." -Splendid.com.

Familea Miranda
Ensayo ? Error (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE JULY 17TH)
PS, Chile Formed in Santiago, Chile, in 1999 Familea Miranda
is the confluence of three veteran musicians, survivors
of the Chilean underground scene from the 90's. In their
style, come together comfortably, elements of punk rock,
obscure metal, instrumental and psychedelic noise-rock
and spots of South-American folklore, always insisting
on thematics (from politics, dadaist lyrics) dyed of a
fine black humor and abstractions. In their six years of
existence, they have known to distill a sound that brings
to mind the intricate legacy of Shellac, the density of
Melvins and the energy of Fugazi, always watching with
distrust the traditionalism of the music generated at this
side of the Los Andes mountains. This is their third album:
the better in their career according to the critics. Raw
noise and complex structures.

Fiel Garvie
Caught Laughing (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 8TH)
PS, US Signposts: Low, Sigur Ros, Mercury Rev, Björk,
Stereolab. 'Caught Laughing' is the new record by the Norwich,
England quintet FIEL GARVIE, and the band's second release
for the Minneapolis-based WORDS ON MUSIC label. The collective
has released five singles, one EP, and three
albums in the decade since their formation in 1996. Produced by Geoff Allen (CAMERA OBSCURA, TEENAGE FANCLUB,
BELLE & SEBASTIAN, MOGWAI) 'Caught Laughing' continues
FIEL GARVIE's reformation of pop music through nine spellbinding
new songs. Rather than abandoning the pop form altogether,
FIEL GARVIE cunningly sidesteps its conventions with a
distinctive flair and ambience that does not cloud the
quintet's fluency in melodies and hooks. The album begins
with the lullaby "Special Rate," whose string
arrangements and whispered vocals by Anne Reekie pronounce
the band as an exquisite practitioner of baroque chamber
pop. Reekie's voice - often cited by critics for her poignant,
unconventional delivery - is likewise not simply a lyrical
conduit, but also a gateway to an enchanting, unfamiliar
world of sound. "The Palace Lights," the album's
first single, is a deceptively jaunty tale of seaside suicide,
set to an insistent keyboard figure and borne along with
the sweetest melody, designed to inveigle itself into your
consciousness and stay there with a limpet-like sticking
power. Mid-tempo songs like "Estimate" and "Daylight" gracefully
march alongside AMERICAN ANALOG SET and YO LA TENGO, while "Air
Song," the album's epic centerpiece, pulsates and
loops in a manner that conjures up the work of STEREOLAB. "Dreaming
is good because it outlasts us all," Reekie closes
the album's second track "Estimate," and the
passage is an apt account of the impressions left by this
record. In 'Caught Laughing' Fiel Garvie create an enduring,
hallucinogenic microcosmos inhabited by exotic, spherical
keys, bashful peals of becalming guitars, subterranean
basslines, and columns of percussion that announce themselves
in sporadic, yet potent, intervals. 'Caught Laughing' launches
Fiel Garvie into their second decade of delivering idiosyncratic
pop music, and unqualifiedly continues their tradition
of fearlessly flying their flag of independence. Fiel Garvie
will tour Japan this summer and Italy and Spain this autumn
in support of 'Caught Laughing'. The band has performed
with a variety of acts including Camera Obscura, Magoo,
Belly, Black Box Recorder, Muse, Deus, and The Telescopes.

Garden
Round and Round (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 7TH)
PS, UK Bethnal Green's quiet, community garden is a haven
for Simon Lord. Once the frontman of twisted pop quartet
Simian, he's now the creative force behind a new psychedelic
folk project: Garden. Garden make what could loosely be
described as modern folk music. Simon's ear for a good
tune that served him so well during the Simian years is
still in bountiful supply, as are his distinct vocals.
But so too is the lateral approach to production that made
Simian far more interesting than just another experimental
pop act. This, in part, comes courtesy of fellow Simian
conspirator, drummer and producer James Ford (lately of
Mystery jets and Test Icicles fame). Garden released an
ep last year on Trial and Error recordings (the label set
up by Simian and friends) to much critical acclaim; "each
Garden song is full of brightly-lit-sunshine morning wonders
as Lord demonstrates that he has an innate sense of baroque
beauty" Flux magazine"exemplary four track ep
of exquisite modern folk. Never lapsing into the genre's
usual formulae, Garden instead leans towards the future" Music
week Now Garden have found a home on Static Caravan (also
home to kindred spirits Tunng) and are ready to unleash
their technicolour debut album "Round and Round".

Grails
Black Tar Prophecies Vol 1,2,3 (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST
22ND)
PS, US Important is proud to release The Black Tar Prophecies
in it's complete form including two tracks not available
on the limited edition European vinyl only releases. At
the start of 2005 Grails returned to the US from a month
long European tour. Stepping off the plane most of the
band walked in one direction and the violinist strayed
off in another. It ended up being the last time most anyone
would see or talk to him. A bandmate of 3 records and 5
years had vanished only to exist in the form of vague rumors
(violin hocked for petty cash, living on the streets, etc).
As the varied reports of brief encounters and sightings
grew stranger and darker, the band started a series of
recordings called Black Tar Prophecies. The remaining members
had particular dissatisfactions with how the band had been
grouped into the innocuous contemporary 'post-rock' movement.
This frustration, combined with newly liberated instrumental
roles, introduced new possibilities for the band's sound.
In this way the collected Black Tar Prophecies ends up
being a more idiosyncratic mission statement for future
Grails recordings, revealing their fondness for the groundfloor
60's and 70's experimental artists that saw music as a
process of discovery as opposed to the pre-conceived, pre-parametered,
commodified sport that underground music has become. A
parallel is now forming between Grails and oldschool experimental
bands like Faust who, rejecting their past, started over
from the beginning to build new languages in music.Grails
third full length recording, and first full length since
leaving Neurosis' label Neurot, is The Black Tar Prophecies.
Seven of these nine tracks from this full length were released
in small highly sought after pressings of 12" vinyl
on two European labels. The Black Tar Prophecies is a massive
evoltionary step in the established Grails sound and it
is shrouded in change and pain. The somewhat clinical studio
sound and recording style which has established them a
tremendous following has been replaced with a much more
free and conceptual recording style. This method liberated
the group in the studio and these recordings feel much
more open, heavy and for lack of a better term "psychadelic." We're
not talking about the cliché co-opted psychadelic
fashion, but psychadelia as a reckless embrace of new states
of mind and possibilities. This sound has always existed
within a Grails song but now it's been heavilly pushed
to the foreground. Perhaps even more elloquently and simply
stated, Black Tar Prophecies 1-3 is their best record yet.

Great Crusades, The
Four Thirty (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 22ND)
PS, US Four Thirty personifies The Great Crusades by infusing
their trademark determined raw energy into a collection
of tracks that winds listeners through the depths of Chicago,
New Orleans and other cities with the stories they've created.
The band's goal for Four Thirty was to create the warmest
reflection of their ability while harnessing their raucous
energy. The outcome reveals boisterous, yet well-balanced
vocals and colorful harmonies coupled with guitar playing
reminiscent of rock and roll's storied past. And while
all this is happening, the driving drums and bass hold
the band on a course somewhere between the shoulder of
the road and its median, but by no means strictly along
the dotted line.

lads' self-produced third album is now ready to storm the

Inspired by the experience of living together in a haunted,
rat infested, coastal cottage for four years, the band
have written a collection of songs drawing on power-pop,
psych-pop, folk-rock and even Tropicalia to create the
unique blend found on this album. Previous releases on
Bevis Frond's Woronzow label & Rubric. Typical of past
releases, they split the song writing and lead vocals four
ways over an instrumental palette of Hammond organ, piano,
chiming valve driven guitars, glutinous bass and flowing
and tumbling drums. It's unlikely a finer psych-pop record
will be released this year.

Mudsuckers
Mudsuckers (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 22ND)
PS, Uk Swamp noise drone. Feedback is layered like mud
on the carcass of song structure. Robert uses primitive
cassette manipulation as well as digital processing to
thicken the sound into a swamp. Think Credence Clearwater
Revival without the one chord they knew. On three of the
songs, Pete uses his analog reel-to-reel wall-of-sound
processing apparatus. Longjaw Mudsuckers was inspired by
a mid-eighties cassette where Merzbow mixed John Hudak's
nature sounds into a screaming mass of sonic debris. Robert
recorded a stream after the huge New Year's Day storm and
Pete plugged it into his system, making it sound at times
like a stream, an ocean, and robots whispering mechanical
secrets. This CD contains some of the first recordings
of Tom Carter's circuit bending. Individual attributes
of Gabe Mindel's guitar roar, Tom Carter's ebow laptop
whirl, and Horton's clanky homemades merge into the mud
stew. Driving the swirl are samples of boogie woogie piano,
riffs from the session, and pounding drums of guests Michael
Donnelly and Doug "Moonshine" Jin. The last number,
SWEET, conjures the bar room sound of Kansas City, 1920,
but recorded inside a thermonuclear reactor. The sounds
created are so raw and tormented it's hard to believe they
were having a good time. Must have something to do with
the times, the war and the general vacuity of that season's
holidays. How did these recordings happen? During the torrential
rains of December 2005, caused by global warming, Robert
Horton invited Tom Carter, Gabe and Pete of the Yellow
Swans, and Glenn Donaldson up the hill to his home in El
Cerrito for food, drink, and music-making. As it turned
out, Pete and Glenn couldn't make it, so Gabe, Tom, and
Robert vibrated the peaceful El Cerrito neighborhood to
mud. We had beer, wine and much feedback. The turbulence
of the sounds matched the late December weather. The following
week when Pete came over to overdub his sounds, Robert
had found an article on mudsuckers in the Berkeley Daily
Planet. The headline was "Mudsuckers may be ugly,
but they have value." A band was born. A mudsucker
is a fish that's mostly a mouth, which spends its whole
life on one patch of mudflat. Scientists use these fish
to monitor carcinogens, endocrine disrupters, and other
toxic chemicals in coastal waters.

Chemist (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 1ST)
PS, US 13th release from Australian maverick trio, now
approaching their 20th Anniversary, and still occupying
a genre-group of one. Their slow, gripping, development
of a single idea over the length of a whole CD, while somehow
obvious, has proved un-copyable, mostly because it so much
depends on the unique musical personalities & extreme
virtuosity of these three, profoundly different, musicians.
Here they break the habit of a lifetime & juxtapose
three 20-minute tracks. Bassist Lloyd Swanton, pre-empting
his critics, wrote: "We just wanted to see what we
could do by contrasting different aesthetics on a single
CD. These pieces are calculatedly different, and the contrast
is important".

PS, US In 2005, the French duo's eponymous debut introduced
their singular take on post-punk nuggets by the likes of
Joy Division, Depeche Mode, Tuxedo Moon, and The Undertones,
recasting them as svelte, sophisticated bossa nova-inflected
chansons. This follow-up is a beguiling, retro-futurist
odyssey, containing covers of Echo And The Bunnymen, The
Buzzcocks, Lords Of The New Church, Billy Idol, U2, Blondie,
New Order, The Cramps, Bauhaus, The Smiths, and more. "...a
beautiful, melancholy exercise in deconstructing familiar
songs and reassembling trace amounts of the melodies into
fresh music" - Boston Globe. "Fresh (and refreshing)
takes on these classics...The songs are so wildly different
in their dreamy form that they stand on their own" -

Ooberman
Carried Away (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 7TH)
PS, UK Indie pop romantics Ooberman are proud to announce
their return with a glorious summer soundtrack for 2006.
Reprising their buoyant early sound, angelic Sophia Churney
takes lead vocals this time. The Oobs' cult fans (just
Google 'Ooberman' to find them) will find familiar painful
themes wrapped into poignant blossoms of pop harmony, while
the rich production asserts a new-found third album confidence.
Starting out as childhood friends in the 80's, after years
of eccentric recordings in obscurity they released a first
single on GRAHAM COXON's Transcopic Label in 1998 followed
by the legendary Shorley Wall EP on Rough Trade, voted
SINGLE OF THE YEAR by The Times, Mark Radcliffe and James
Dean Bradfield (Manic Street Preachers). The debut album "The
Magic Treehouse" (1999) - produced by STEPHEN STREET
(The Smiths, Blur, The Zutons, The Kaiser Chiefs) - brought
a TOP 40 SINGLE, four Glastonbury appearances and wide
mainstream coverage. Their highest critical acclaim came
later for the gentle psychedelic folk of the Running Girl
Mini Album (2001) and the cinematic grandeur of 2003's
Hey Petrunko. "Hey Petrunko Gets better and better
every time you play it, buy definitely" (Sunday Telegraph). "The
production is phenomenal, washes over in wave after wave
of aural bliss" (Stephen Street). "Melodic, moving
album about the death of childlike innocence. Wonderful." (Rolling
Stone Magazine). "Combining conventional song structures
with orchestral interludes, their newly lush sound here
twinkles like The Flaming Lips with The Boo Radley's quirky
pop nous." (Q Magazine).

Raf Bomber Command At War 1939-45 Volume 1
Historical Recordings (spoken word) (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE
AUGUST 15TH)
PS, UK 28 tracks. CD41 are proud to announce a 72 minute
audio CD collection of rare archive recordings from the
Second World War, featuring broadcast and actuality recordings
made during RAF Bomber Command raids on Essen, Stettin,
Kleve and Berlin in 1943, together with crew debriefs and
war correspondent reports. Largely unheard for more than
sixty years, these astonishing actuality recordings were
made by plucky BBC engineers, who bravely joined the crews
of Lancaster heavy bombers for night raids on German targets.
The recordings were made on portable "midget" disc
cutting machines plugged directly into the Lancaster's
intercom system, and capture the drama as it unfolds of
anti-aircraft fire, night fighter attack, evasive action, "bombs
away" and the ever-present danger of mid-air collision.
The war correspondents featured include such celebrated
names as Wynford Vaughan Thomas, Edward R. Murrow and Richard
Dimbleby. The CD also features recordings made by aircrew
after returning safely to base, including an air gunner's
account of the devastating raid on Dresden in February
1945, and a remarkable report on the daring raid on the
Dortmund-
Ems Canal in August 1940, for which the speaker (Flt Lt
Roderick Learoyd) was awarded the Victoria Cross, Britain's
highest gallantry award. The booklet features detailed
recording and historical notes by James Hayward as well
as rare photographs. All audio content has been carefully
digitally restored for CD release. A portion of the proceeds
from the sale of the CD will be donated to the RAF Association.
The CD is an absolute must for all historians and researchers,
as well as collectors of archive sound and broadcast recordings.

Sachiko Kanenobu
Misora (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 7TH)
PS, AUSTRALIA The 1972 debut album by Sachiko Kanenobu,
a woman generally acknowledged as Japan's first female
singer-songwriter. It's a near-perfect folk masterpiece,
alternating full-bodied arrangements (produced by Harry
Hosono of Yellow Magic Orchestra and Happy End) with Sachiko's
lonesome guitar and pure, soaring vocals. Discovered as
an precocious 18 year old in Osaka, Sachiko was signed
to Japan's first ever independent record company, URC (Underground
Record Club), who changed Japan's musical landscape irrevocably
in the late 60s and early 70s with artists like Happy End,
Folk Crusaders and Kenji Endo. Sachiko was the only female
artist on this era-defining label and the very fact that
she wrote and sang her own songs made her a rarity among
Japanese women. But just a few months before Misora was
released, Sachiko left Japan and secretly emigrated to
America to marry music critic Paul Williams (Crawdaddy
Magazine, Rolling Stone). She did not record again for
almost a decade and didn't release another album until
1992. Instead she settled with Williams in small-town California
and raised two sons. Misora was released in her absence,
and, without an artist to promote it, sank without a trace.
World renowned science fiction author Philip K Dick, a
Williams family friend, actually encouraged Sachiko to
return to music in the early 80s. He was executive producer
for a single recorded in 1981, but sadly died before he
could realise his ambition to produce Sachiko's return
album. Still, Sachiko was inspired by his encouragement
and reinvented herself with gusto as a 'folk-punk' singer,
forming new band Culture Shock in the mid 80s. Sachiko
still performs to this day and since Misora was rediscovered
by Japanese fans in the early 90s, has returned to her
homeland many times to perform. Misora is now regarded
as a classic landmark in Japanese musical history, and
she is revered her as a true underground folk pioneer.
Chapter Music's edition of Misora is the first for the
English-speaking world, featuring extensive liner notes,
lyrics translated into English by Sachiko herself, and
never before seen photos from the singer's own archives.

Satie, Erik
Socrate + Melodies (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 22ND)
PS, UK 21 tracks. LTM is pleased to announce a new CD edition
of the acclaimed recording of Erik Satie's symphonic drama
Socrate, performed by Music Projects London and previously
available on the Factory Classical label. Completed in
the spring of 1918, Socrate is a typical eccentric piece
from avant-garde pioneer Erik Satie. Written in three movements
for voice (four sopranos) and small orchestra (or piano),
the text is extracted from three Platonic dialogues and
depicts the last days of the Greek philosopher Socrates,
condemned to death for corrupting the young men of Athens.
The subtitle "symphonic drama" belies the understatement
and economy of Socrate, which Satie aimed to make "white
and pure like antiquity." To achieve this, Satie claimed
that he ate only white foods. Socrate itself lasts for
30 minutes, and is joined on this CD by five short song
cycles written by Satie between 1886 and 1923: Trois Melodies
(1886), Trois Autres Melodies, Trois Melodies (1916), Quatres
Petite Melodies (1920) and the absurdist Ludions (bottle
imps) (1923), the latter with lyrics by poet Leon-Paul
Fargue. The 61 minute CD was digitally recorded at All
Saints Church, Petersham, UK. Sopranos Susan Bickley, Eileen
Hulse and Patricia Rosario perform with pianist Robin Bowman
and conductor Richard Bernas. This new CD edition from
LTM features new artwork and revised liner notes and translations,
including full texts of Socrate and all eighteen Melodies
in both French and English. Socrate + Melodies has already
been praised by The Gramophone (1990).

CITY BEAT WEEKLY "On the forthcoming disc, the band
increases their impact tenfold, resulting in a rich,
phenomenally engaging effort that is as imaginative and
full of surprises as anything you'll hear this year from
the big-shot indie record labels. If you like the textured
unpredictability and skewed, hypnotic Pop of artists like
Modest Mouse and Stars, you're well advised to check out
this compelling foursome." -- MIKE BREEN. FROM THE
COURIER-JOURNAL, LOUISVILLE KY "Second Story Man has
grown into one of Louisville's most intriguing young bands,
conjuring a sound that flirts with everything from classic
pop to art rock, delivered with boy-girl harmonies that
suggest Sonny & Cher raised on Sebadoh. Nearly as intriguing
is the band's attitude. It has adopted a work ethic that
has eluded many Louisville bands, much less one whose members
are in their early 20s." -JEFFREY LEE PUCKETT. FROM
CDREVIEWS.COM "This CD is so damn
good that it is a DAMN SHAME that this band is laboring
in obscurity." -JOEL DUNMAN. FROM MUNDANESOUNDS.COM "Sometimes
a band can make complex sounds
and melodies look quite simple. I've been sitting here
listening to Second Story Man's debut album, Pins and Needles,
for the past day and a half, and I've been struck by how
utterly enjoyable their album is." -JOSEPH KYLE.

Live @ Paradise (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 22ND)
PS, US In the early 70s New Jersey's music scene was dominated
primarily by two great bands: Bruce Springsteen & The
E-Street Band and Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes.
Southside Johnny had a diverse sound that passed easily
from effervescent R&B to boogie rock, to tender heartbreaking
ballads. The recording on this CD is from 1978 and features
Southside Johnny in top form playing Boston's famous Paradise
Theater in 1978. The horn section is the real momentum
behind the band, which amazingly is able to replicate its
full-bodied studio sound. The tracks are written mainly
by Springsteen and Steve Van Zandt, but also include covers
by Sam Cook and Leiber & Stoller.

allow. Without the constraints of working w/ any sounds
not at the control of his hands or feet, Sparhawk is able
to push his guitar to fill the entire audio spectrum. The
disc shows both sides of guitar drone, the aggression of
playing a guitar by beating it w/ a fist & the inherit
peacefulness in a heavily reverbed slow crescendo.

Spirit
Cosmic Smile (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 22ND)
PS, US Creators of refined and original albums, Spirit
are undoubtedly one of the most interesting groups in the
panorama of American rock, thanks to drummer Ed Cassidy
(ex-jazz drummer) and guitarist Randy California (friend
of Jimi Hendrix, from whom he had obviously learned a great
number of tricks). This album came to life between '91
and '95, but it is not a collection, it is a real album
and of high quality.

Thomas, Fred
Sink Like a Symphony (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 8TH)
PS, US Following three limited cd-r albums "Sink Like
A Symphony" emerges as Thomas' first widely-available
if not technically official solo debut. A step away from
the ultra-bubblegum glitter of Saturday Looks Good To Me,
but still rooted in the magic of the pop song, the music
on "Sink" is heartbreakingly serious, ridiculously
personal & still stuck in your head all day. Akin to
the hyper-wordy spiritual side of Neutral Milk Hotel or
the experimental lo-fidelity alchemy of The Microphones,
these songs clatter and shake with hope & pain, always
on the Virgo of falling into themselves, and sometimes
do, coming out of a two minute pop song into a fuzz explosion
or a five-minute drum circle.

Turner, Ike & His Kings Of Rhythm
Early Times (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE JULY 31ST)
PS, UK IKE TURNER (Inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall
Of Fame in 1991 with Tina Turner and into the Blues Hall
Of Fame in 2005 alone). The best of the recordings of Ike
Turner's Kings Of Rhythm following the huge success of "Rocket
88" a #1. Billboard R&B chart hit during the summer
of 1951 and before he conquered St Louis in 1956 and hooked
up with little Anna Mae Bullock from Nutbush. Turner had
no more major chart successes until "A Fool For You" in
1960, but this compilation cherry-picks the best (with
an emphasis on the most rockin') tracks from the five years
following "Rocket 88". Ike sings, plays piano
and plays guitar backing singers Billy "The Kid" Emerson,
Clayton Love, Billy Gayles, Eugene "The Sly" Fox,
Dennis Binder and others. This fascinating record traces
Ike's musical quest for another hit, sometimes trying to
emulate the sound of other artists hits (you will recognize
the strains of Roy Brown, Percy Mayfield, Guitar Slim,
Little Junior Parker, Lloyd Price Joe Turner and others
here) and sometimes being chillingly original (witness
the eldritch "Sinner's Dream") but always being
unmistakably Ike Turner & The Kings Of Rhythm! - All
the most rockin' tracks by the ever elegant and sinister
Mr. Turner....a man in on the very birth of Rock n Roll
and Soul as we know and love it!

Wire
Chairs Missing (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 15TH)
PS, US With its Eno-esque synth textures, Chairs Missing
has been often cited as the evolutionary link between punk
and post-punk. In general, the lyrics are darker than those
on Pink Flag, even morbid at times; images of cold, drowning,
pain, and suicide haunt the record, and the title itself
is a reference to mental instability. Originally released
in 1978 and now available for the first time on 180 gram
audiophile vinyl. Original artwork.

Wire
154 (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 15TH)
PS, US If Chairs Missing is the transition album from punk
to post-punk, 154 is definitely of the latter genre. Synth
moves to the forefront on this 1979 third album from Wire
along with melodies that help humanize the electronic textures.
Named for the number of gigs the band had played to that
point, 154 shows how far this band had come in three years
over three albums. Original artwork. First time on 180
gram audiophile vinyl.

is perhaps the most original debut album to come out of

in 36 minutes to create an album that has influenced bands
for nearly thirty years. Original artwork. 180 gm.
