These shows will be in support of the Deluxe Re-issue of Field Of Fire and also to preview Richard's new studio record The Radiant Monkey, which Parasol will release later this year. There will also be a mini set of Jimi Hendrix covers, performed as a trio under the guise of "The Jaime Neverts Show". Set lists will be provided to the audience, as souvenirs.

Grails "Burning Off Impurities" CD $11.00 (Temporary Residence)
Following soon after the critically praised "Black Tar Prophecies" collection on Important Records, Portland, Oregon's GRAILS return with their first proper studio album since 2004 release of Redlight. "Burning Off Impurities" - their debut for Temporary Residence Ltd. - makes good on the promise of those past releases in delivering an album that not only thrusts the group to new heights, but also pushes the instrumental rock genre forward for the first time in nearly a decade. An increased interest in psychedelic, ambient and world musics is most likely to blame for Grails' exploration of the lesser-traveled paths of modern music. Influenced in equal parts by Ash Ra Temple, Erkin Koray, Popol Vuh, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, and dozens others, this is very likely the closest Grails will ever get to making a classic rock record; the kind of sprawling masterpiece that you savor for years before passing it on to your younger brother so he can repeat the process."

Jim's Pick: Best New Music from Scandinavia

My Midnight Creeps "Histamin" CD $15.00 (MMC-EMI Norway)
Second album of primal garage-rock from Oslo, Norway supergroup, featuring the guitarists from Madrugada and Ricochets, the follow up to their celebrated self-titled debut. Possessed by the vengeful specter of a half-century of wanton blues, sinister psychedelia, and gargantuan garage rock. On this voyage one encounters Willie Dixon, 13th Floor Elevators, The Animals, The Rolling Stones, The Stooges, The Sonics, Spacemen 3, The Gun Club, The Cramps, Union Carbide Productions, Nick Cave, along with a bluesier take on modern psych marvels like BRMC and Black Angels. In additon to those myriad influences and not so very surprisingly Histamin occasionally harkens back to The Soundtrack Of Our Lives’ mid-90s psych-rock Vikings era, encompassed by TSOOL first two albums and early EPs, lotsa sitars and castanets…and blazing saxophones…and howling Hammond organs....

PS, US They've been honing their unique, intensely stylized brand of DIY maximalism in the lofts, clubs & parking lots of NYC since '02. Like an ADD-afflicted Boredoms or Aphex Twin re-imagined as a high school marching band, their polyrythmic sound synthesized elements of hardcore, ambient, pop, crunk, noise, dance, psych & dance filtered through their distinct, largely self-taught aesthetic.

Alex Delivery
Star Destroyer
PS, US ALEX DELIVERY have gleefully exposed their myriad gifts and influences with their debut full-length "Star Destroyer," almost two years in the making. On it the New York-based quintet have demonstrated their penchant for the electro-organic, seamlessly blending the sharp and gentle, like a chain-gang draped in organza. You can hear the chattering of insects resonating from the inside of a kettle drum, and you can imagine this colossal robo-beast wobbling and waltzing down an abandoned carnival boardwalk. Sylphs soar across strings, occasionally descending to enjoy some wiggle-worthy poly-rhythms. These and many more colorful characters have climbed aboard the "Star Destroyer."

Antiguo Automata Mexicano
Kraut Slut
PS, MEXICO Angel Sánchez Borges, the man behind AAM (Antiguo Automata Mexicano) takes techno to the next level with his second album and first release with Static Discos. Previously AAM released the infamous Microhate album on Germany's Background label. Inspired by German kraut and space rock, minimal techno and screwed up digital antics, AAM's Kraut Slut is the stuff of wicked dance dreams. Angel Sánchez Borges also records as Seekers Who Are Lovers on the Soundsister label. In a recent interview on URB Magazine, Borges says his secret to the AAM sound is his love for "My Bloody Valentine, a gentle way of dealing with strange layers of sounds. I want people to dance to these noisy grooves". Pitchformedia recently described his music in "the glitch/dub/minimal techno vein, with carefully constructed rips and blips stretched across a wide, white sonic canvas".

Arctic Monkeys
Brianstorm
PS, US This pre-album single serves to prepare you for the coming onslaught that is the rocking brilliance of their new release, "Favourite Worst Nightmare". Like some cruel bait-and-switch, this record opens with a lovely string quartet before a rude intrusion of frantic drums and squealing guitars send them packing (apparently inspired by The Jesus Lizard no less). The second track, "Brianstorm" barrels out of the gate with an itchy energy. "Temptation Greets You Like Your Naughty Friend" is a taut, suspenseful track featuring a guest verse from Dizzee Rascal.

Asa Irons & Swaan Miller
S/T
PS, US This record is forever. After listending to it you'll realise that it doesn't matter that Asa Irons plays in Witch with J Mascis as well as the acclaimed folk outfit Feathers. This record needs no associations and it's songs are so timeless that they feel as if they've been passed around for generations and hardly need any recording medium at all. This is the first release from Asa Irons and Swann Miller but it sounds like they've lived within each others voices for a million years. Asa's deep-breath-voice lays down a mossy hill for Swann's beautiful voice to tread upon. His guitar work is simply intricate and his fingerpicking perfectly suits the way their voices combine to become one. This record always has been and always will be. This record is forever. "After spending years in New Hampshire and often Nova Scotia, I began writing songs about my Northeastern window through which I view the world. Most of the pieces represent strong fundamentals in my life such as living without comfort resources like electricity and running water, the building trends of carpentry and masonry with which I make my living, and the slow paced rural life in which I grew up. The land of Northeastern North America is very important to me and compelled me to describe it in the form of music. Many people in my life were musicians - my father, cousins, friends - so I had plenty of good examples to pull from and think about. My style of song writing, I believe, comes from the influence of these loved ones combined with certain deep-rooted melodies or images from books that have stuck with me. (Such as sound tracks of old cinema and authors like Tolstoy and Carolyn Chute.) My older sister's art work has also had a tremendous effect on the way I see the world. Many of her primary subjects revolve around various representations of our own home place and the people who inhabited this and the other woods houses in which we grew up. One of the people connected to me through music and lifestyle is Swann Miller. She is the daughter of a man who was a good friend of my father's. Through the '70's our fathers built houses together around N.H. and also played a lot of music. So, I have known Swann my whole life and perhaps it was inevitable that we made music together. When I reached her house in the winter of 2003, I had just had my notebook of songs stolen along with other things. I decided to try to catalogue all I could remember by practicing them. Swann practiced with me. On a whim, her boyfriend - who works as a sound engineer - recorded the two of us singing in an abandoned yellow women's bathroom in the basement of the building where they lived. It all took about an hour and a half including set up of mics, recording, and breaking down. I borrowed a twenty year old Guild guitar from a friend of a friend which was very similar to my father's guitar that I grew up with. I am so happy to have had the opportunity to help capture Swann's beautiful voice and continue the music of our families. The album is a quick glimpse of a world view from Southern New Hampshire through the voices of two old friends whose fathers were friends before them." Asa Irons

Badgerlore
We Are All Hopeful Farmers, We Are All Scared Rabbits
PS, US BADGERLORE is the great tribal council of the so-called "Freak Folk" movement. The supergroup features Rob Fisk (DEERHOOF, 7-YEAR RABBIT CYCLE) and Ben Chasny (SIX ORGANS OF ADMITTANCE, COMETS ON FIRE), with Tom Carter (CHARALAMBIDES), Pete Swanson (YELLOW SWANS), Glen Donaldson (BLITHE SONS, JEWELED ANTLER) and Liz Harris (GROUPER). Together they proceed with masterful nuance and inexorable tension; "We Are All Hopeful Farmers, We Are All Scared Rabbits" is the sound of effigy mounds slowly rousing from prehistoric slumber.

Bates, Martyn
Imagination Feels Like Poison
PS, US 1st U.S. issue of a full length solo lp by the stunniing vocalist & founding member of EYELESS IN GAZA. Originally released in 1997, it is primarily a collection of songs that are brightly bittersweet, conjuring up ghostly & vivid invocations of folk/psych. Voice, and suprisingly, banjo are the principal instruments that carry the music, fleshed out by the inventive use of Autoharp, percussion, whistles & pump organ.

Black Tie Revue
Code Fun
PS, US Their hooky keyboard driven power-pop has been drawing ravenous fans everywhere they play. Often compared to power pop bands likeThe Only Ones, The Wildhearts & The Records, the band is everything great about being young, geeky & American: adictively hooky, powerful, flagrantly irresponsible three-chord pop songs, loud guitars & new-wave keyboards, & a whole lot of jumping around.

Blow, The
Poor Aim: Love Songs (reissue)
PS, US "Poor Aim: Love Songs" is resilient electro-pop music that can be lovingly devoured by people of all ages and coolness factors. Already, the songs have fallen into a beloved repeat-play position in many a heart (and cell phone, as ring tones!). In their experiment, the two challenged each other with stringent requirements: JONA insisted that the rhythms couldn't be redundant; KHAELA guaranteed that the lyrics held sentences worth repeating. They succeeded. The songs are catchy as hell, and rise to meet all of the duo's snobby music standards. With sing-along-when-you-think-you're-alone types of refrains, it's as if the oldies station on the car stereo is playing at the same time as the urban party music station, with the occasional interfering sonic sway of an eighties keyboard refrain. That mash of sounds would come closest to describing "Poor Aim's" productional pitch, the sound of feeling fun and desperate and bravely romantically unsuccessful all at once; easy listening for difficult feelings.

Booji Boy High
Doubleshaw
PS, US A new project from the musical tag team duo, Georgios Panayiotou & Mother Markzbow of HOT CHIP. Side A "Doubleshaw" is an anthem of love & disbelief for dear friend of theirs, a party animal of great intelligence & wit. It JUMPS! Side B "Twist Myself" again is about legal highs & super hero hulk out lows. Both sides are pop masterpieces!

PS, US New York based quartet of Matthias Bossi, Joel Hamilton, Carla Kihlstedt, & Tony Maimone. Feat. CARLA BOZULICH, MEGAN REILLY, JON LANGFORD, WATT, TOM WAITS & DAVID THOMAS with no end to the scraping & swirling guitars, soaring string arrangements, rupturing bass, & plate-shattering drums. Sure to be one of the most ear-opening releases of 2007

Book Of Knots, The
S-T
PS, US ALL MUSIC GUIDE: "The Book Of Knots' self-titled metal opus is a concept album about the sea. But don't expect any prog rock opera cheese. Book of Knots is a noisy, bludgeoning rock record, full of feedback, improvisation and bitter currents -- like Mike Watt's Contemplating the Engine Room played by Queens of the Stone Age. The tumultuous record ranges from the oddly Björk-ish "Tugboat" to the psych, hesher rock of "Crumble" and Jon Langford's downright catchy piece of slithering melancholia "Back on Dry Land"." It's a demented and expansive narrative that takes at least multiple listens to make sense of, but the cinematic scope is apparent from the beginning. While Book of Knots is a bit too difficult for everyone, those who enjoy digging deeper into the layers of an epic rock album will be more than satisfied." (Charles Spano)

Boonaraaas!!!
5 Steps Ahead
PS, US While most musical groups are taking two steps back, their thrust is most definitely forward. They bash out their heart & soulpoppin' sonic nuggets using vintage equipment but the noise they make is very much NOW! A treat for the ears & the eyes, no matter what your persuasion. Trich's sassy singing & bass attitude along w/ Christina's command of the big beat provides a rockin' solid foundation. Laura's Danelectro action blends w/ Tine's rhythm licks to create a fuzz-infused wall of sound that is so direct that you'll wonder what the heck just hit you.

Butler, Brandon
Lucky Thumbs
PS, US The name Brandon Butler may not be familiar, but any fan of indie-rock and emo is probably aware of Butler's previous projects, Boys Life and Farewell Bend. Butler then emerged with his project Canyon, where his unique vocal styles took a more country and folk-based rock sound. Now Butler has released his 2nd solo effort, and Lucky Thumbs shows a mature, strong songwriter with an extremely unique voice.

Callahan, Bill
Woke on a Whaleheart
PS, US New solo album from Smog mastermind Bill Callahan. PREFIX MAG: "Like Howe Gelb's 'Sno Angel Like You from last year, Whaleheart uses the conventions of traditional American genres to disguise slightly skewed songwriting. Strangely, the incorporation of these motifs doesn't render his work any more conventional. Instead, it's as if Callahan wandered into the wrong studio but taught the players his songs anyway. That sense of uneasy displacement, though, is exactly what makes Woke on a Whaleheart a fitting addition to Callahan's body of work."

PS, US You may have heard some of these songs on Music is My Girlfriend or Lost Music eps - these are completely new recordings and sound amazing. Andreas Hagman returned to his native Örebro, Sweden in 2000, where he began recording dreamy pop, jangly guitar and vocals that reflect a tender, soul-baring honesty.

"Precious songs, in the Sarah Records vein, between a super romantic dreampop and a dreamy and tender melodies jangle pop" - Mira El Péndulo

Cold Bleak Heat
Simitu
PS, US "Simitu" is the second album from COLD BLEAK HEAT, the dream-team, east-coast avant jazz line-up of alto/tenor saxophonist PAUL FLAHERTY (DREAM/AKTION UNIT), drummer CHRIS CORSANO (VAMPIRE BELT, SIX ORGANS OF ADMITTANCE), trumpeter GREG KELLEY (NMPERIGN, HEATHEN SHAME), and acoustic bassist MATT HEYNER (NO NECK BLUES BAND, TEST). While explosive as their 2005 debut, "Simitu" brings a melancholic, even sensitive feel to these improvisations. Yet, no need to worry about these four wipin' tears on their sleeves. CBH wages between the melodic centers/ghostly solos of Flaherty/Kelley and loose, downhill, free blow outs you'd expect, all while mainting the grand swell of a hardcore jazz symphony. Even as complex and multi-paced beats sink into bowed-drones and vocal hollers, focused lyricism remains the returning leader. Features liner notes and drawings by Christina Carter (CHARALAMBIDES).

Courrier, Kevin
Captain Beefheart's Trout Mask Replica
PS, US <p>In the spring of 1969, the inauspicious release of Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band's Trout Mask Replica, a double-album featuring 28 stream-of-consciousness songs filled with abstract rhythms and guttural bellows, dramatically altered the pop landscape.
Yet even if the album did cast its radical vision over the future of music, much of the record's artistic strength is actually drawn from the past. This book examines how Beefheart's incomparable opus, an album that divided (rather than) united a pop audience, is informed by a variety of diverse sources. Trout Mask Replica is a hybrid of poetic declarations inspired by both Walt Whitman and the beat poets, the field hollers of the Delta Blues, the urban blues of Howlin' Wolf, the gospel blues of Blind Willie Johnson, and the free jazz of Ornette Coleman. This book illustrates how Trout Mask Replica was not so much an arcane specimen of the avant-garde, but rather a defiantly original declaration of the American imagination.

Deerhunter
Flourescent Grey EP
PS, US Four new songs recorded while mixing Cryptograms. A snapshot of what direction the band might explore next? Probably not. This EP arrives on the heels of a well received sophomore LP, Cryptograms. EP functions in many ways as an epilogue to both the LP and the accompanying well-reported anxiety surrounding it's creation. The band now has a clean slate to explore something entirely new in the future. Four songs plus video for "Strange Lights". DOA: "The Flourescent Grey EP basically picks up where the album left off, combining the droning atmospherics of space-rockers like Loop and Spacemen 3 with the kind of Martin Hannett style production and drumming of Unknown Pleasures-era Joy Division."

Dolly Varden
Panic Bell (ON SALE)
PS, US Fans of George Harrison, The Volebeats, Fleetwood Mac, Joe Henry, The Stones and The Shins will find safe harbor here... Chicago's Dolly Varden marks their triumphant return with The Panic Bell. After a three-year hiatus marked by solo records, art exhibits, and raising babies, the record ushers in a new focus for the band. Fronted by harmony-happy husband and wife duo Steve Dawson and Diane Christiansen, the songs on The Panic Bell are filled with images of Dawson's struggle to hold onto his band and his hope in a world numbed by the distortion and violence of "shock and awe." The Panic Bell brings new rawness and energy to Dolly Varden's sound, while still maintaining their melodic strengths and top-notch songwriting. ALL MUSIC GUIDE: "This band have been compared to artists like Lucinda Williams and Marshall Crenshaw for their deliberate blend of pop and alt.country. This is quite apparent on the mid-tempo, pretty and powerful opener Complete Resistance. Resistance to this particular song would be futile, as it instantly grows on the listener... It's rare that the words and music come together so perfectly, but that is the case with much of this record. Draper, Linda
Keepsake
PS, US Linda Draper's much anticipated fifth studio long player, "Keepsake" brings you along for 10 beautifully crafted songs - it continues where her last LP, 2005's "One Two Three Four" (produced by Kramer) left off. The album marks her first self-produced effort, along with co-producer Major Matt Mason (Adam Green, Kimya Dawson, Jeffrey Lewis etc.) and was recorded at Olive Juice Music Studios in New York City. The CD presents Linda in an intimate setting accompanied throughout by stand-up bass, piano, violin, cello, slide guitar, touches of percussion and xylophone - the focus always being the pure beauty of Draper's vocal performance. "A shining light of excellence...a delightful voice that immediately enchants." (Tasty, UK)

Eames Era
Heroes & Sheroes
PS, US The bands sophomore record is so brazenly hooky, with songs that are so totally fleshed out with memorable sing-a-longable instantly familiar melodies, chugging guitars, ba-bas, harmonies & handclaps, you could forgive it for what it lacks in innovation. In fact, Heroes highlights are some of the best chick-pop, and wholeheartedly deserve to sit amongst your Go-Gos greatest hits CD, Blondies Parallel Lines & the last Mates of State record too. The first single, "When You were a Millionaire", is currently featured as the theme song on MTV's new show, "I'm from Rolling Stone". Also had a song featured on Grey's Anatomy soundtrack.

Electric Soft Parade
No Need to be Down-Hearted
PS, US US debut for multi-instrumentalist brothers, who are also known as The Brakes, and compared to everyone from The Band to Stereolab, with a menagerie of lo-fi folk, thumping blues and free-form psych-rock, whilst always retaining a pop shimmer. MOJO: "Full of regret, hard-won wisdom and DIY pop artistry No Need To Be Downhearted transcends bog-standard indie to build a world of sophisticated melody and ingenious arrangements, encompassing Broadway gumption, Tahiti 80-style sunshine pop, and exquisitely lachrymose minimalism. Mutes brass, Ben Folds Joanna, ELO synth showers and Left Banke harmonies belie the record's home-studio genesis, plonking E.S.P. in the van of a modest progressive pop renaissance recently hinted at by Field Music and The Earlies."

PS, US New album from former Hidden Agenda artists, now on Friendly Fire. For 'New Beleivers' the band would recall the soul of Dusty Springfield, the power of Patti Smith, the big sound of Phil Spector and the warped-pop sensibilities of The Breeders on an album that brought vocalist Renée LoBue to the forefront. his new Elk City calls upon a wide palette of influences: 1960's psychedelic bands such as Love, the girl group sounds of classic Motown, 1970's proto-punk heroes John Cale and Television, and 1980's alternative rock such as The Smiths and The Pixies. Familjen
Det Snurrar I Min Skalle
PS, SWEDEN The music is joyus. Not to mention, deceptively simple. Run a three-note arpeggio through a phaser and there's your refrain. Naturally, there's a bit more to it than that, but the essence of Familjen's pop/electronica sound is uncomplicated fun. Perhaps the lyrics tell a completely different story, but hey - I don't speak Swedish so I don't really care. Familjen makes warm electronica. Sounds like the Hacienda in springtime, Mylo on downers, Rex the dogs soundsystem and A guy called geralds dreams. It makes us all fuzzy and fightable inside.

PS, US Armed w/ a rather large arsenal of obscure samples culled from his life as well as the entire Chicago Public Library sound collection, he went to work. Alone in a near-downtown basement apartment (sometimes in his bedroom closet), his mind took a very long trip, delving into the under-explored territory where electronic music, hip hop, & orchestral pop meet. Taking cues from The Beach Boys & Burt Bacharach to The Postal Service & Public Enemy, he's conceived, collected, cut & pasted, orchestrated & created a piece of work that is large & complex yet utterly personal & easily accessible.

Freelovebabies
Home Improvement for Condemned Buildings
PS, UK This is Will Carruthers' 2nd solo LP as the freelovebabies, and while he's done much of the work, he is anything but alone. The blood, sweat and tears of people he's held in high regard over the years both personally and professionally fuel this record. It's no secret where Will has come from and where he's been, his contribution to a handful of influential Spacemen 3 records and the seminal debut from Spiritualized, Laser Guided Melodies are all part of his personal history. Eyes forward and the present very much at hand, this record stands on it's own two feet and commands that you remember; the man makes music every bit as much as the music makes the man. 'Sky Blue Feeling' settles on high, with that signature bass
billowing down and crystalline guitar licks piercing through like so many shafts of light. A whisper soft bit of drumming and otherworldliness bring the opening track to a gentle close. 'On The Drip' is the most nostalgic offering on the record and is the most obvious show of Willie's proud musical past. Rooted in the earliest and most revered days of Spiritualized, it is both a tribute and a show of how many aces he's got up his sleeve. The vocals are raw and raucous, the bass climbs high, spurred on by an unrelenting beat, as he begs 'Gimme something fuckin' new." Fragile is the only way to describe 'Too Soon to Say Goodbye' it stirs with a haunting intensity, lone piano melody, and an achingly strung out vocal that bears a Lennon-esque quality at his most shattered. Freelovebabies also features Mark Refoy of Slipstream (ex Spiritualized), Jonny Mattock (ex Spacemen 3/Spiritualized drummer), and Kevin Cowen (Spacemen 3/Darkside).

Grails
Burning Off Impurities
PS, US Following soon after the critically praised "Black Tar Prophecies" collection on IMPORTANT RECORDS, Portland, Oregon's GRAILS return with their first proper studio album since 2004 release of Redlight. Influenced in equal parts by ASH RA TEMPEL, ERKIN KORAY, POPOL VUH, BLACK SABBATH, LED ZEPPELIN, and dozens others, this is very likely the closest Grails will ever get to making a classic rock record; the kind of sprawling masterpiece that you savor for years before passing it on to your younger brother so he can repeat the process.

PS, US ALL MUSIC GUIDE: "Any Average Joe rock dude could reissue an out-of-print EP they recorded in 1986, and the same sort of guy could easily add a few bonus tracks to boost the value of the package. Richard X. Heyman, however, is no Average Joe -- he's perhaps America's greatest unsung hero of power pop, a songwriter of uncommon talent and intelligence, and a one-man rock band without peer. So when Heyman decided to resurrect his long-gone Actual Size EP twenty years after it first hit the racks, he went for the grand gesture -- Actual Sighs features the six tunes from that aged 12" in their original sequence, preceded by fourteen (yes, fourteen) previously unavailable songs, turning a fleshed-out single into an epic..." Johnson, Calvin And The Sons of The Soil
S/T
PS, US In 2003, K recording artists KHAELA MARICICH (THE BLOW) AND JASON ANDERSON had a vision. "What if Calvin Johnson played all his best songs from over the years, with a band of real music-making people?" This was their vision, and they decided to make it happen. Jason formed a band of other K music stalwarts that included KYLE FIELD (LITTLE WINGS) on bass with ADAM FORKNER (YUME BITSU, VERSION) and Jason sharing the guitar and drum playing duties. Dubbed by Jason the SONS OF THE SOIL, they set out to modernize the primitive. Khaela designed a graphic image that perfectly captured the Sons of the Soil's transcendental vibe. A tour was arranged that crossed paths with other fine Olympia types, including REBECCA PEARCY and MIRAH. Songs were chosen that spanned the years and various combos, including songs originally recorded by HALO BENDERS ("Love Travels Faster"), DUB NARCOTIC SOUND SYSTEM ("Booty Run") and the GO TEAM ("Sand"). Rehearsals commenced, and then it was off across the Western United States for a rollicking, rockin' good time.

Mary Onettes, The
S/T
PS, SWEDEN Long awaited debut album from Sweden's best new band. These ten songs sound somewhat like a modern version of A-ha dressed in black mixed with early The Jesus and Mary Chain on an arena. We love every little second of it. It took them two years and three labels to get here, but if that's what they needed in order to produce what must be one of the finest Swedish debut album ever, it was worth all the wait. Everything about this album is just perfect. From the confident and obvious choice of simple calling it The Mary Onettes to the epic artwork. The classic ten songs format where each song has it's obvious place on the album. First-rate songs all the way dressed in production perfectly balancing between futuristic and timeless. Biography Although development are crucial for a band one thing have remained the same, the songs. The band revolves around Philip Ekströms song writing and although some songs have been stripped down, rebuilt or even thrown away they have kept coming. Things started happen for The Mary Onettes in spring 2004, signing with a brand new label the future couldn't look brighter. Six months later the band lost the deal without being given the chance to release anything. Eight months of despair followed until Sony/BMG decided to sign up the band up for an EP. The debut was released may 2005 and didn't make big fuzz to the main crowd, although it got great reviews. A couple of months later the band found themselves without a recording contract once again. Instead of splitting up or getting depressed they started building a music studio and plans took form to start an own label and release everything themselves. A demo cd to Swedish indie label Labrador changed those plans. For the first time the band felt that they had a label that understood them and their music. Signing for a full length album in spring 2006 led to more frequent studio sessions and recording in their new built studio in Gothenburg, Sweden. Humans don't believe in stagnation, it's in our nature to develop, evolve and invent. The Mary Onettes started out in 2000 and when looked at in retrospect, many things have changed. Starting out as a passionate, yet naive rock band from a small town and therefore a lot to prove, the band have managed to stay together because of their love for music and each other. It takes time for a band to develop a sound and to create that special bond between members in a rock group. Six years on, that development is still in progress.

Selling Points: SXSW shows, full radio promotion with AAM, multiple reviews in national print, free downloads from spin.com. new media campaign with filter. Multiple US tours. Overview: Spring of 2006 saw Mezzanine Owls travel from Los Angeles to record with Andy LeMaster (Bright Eyes, Azure Ray, R.E.M.) in Athens, GA. These sessions produced Slingshot Echoes, a dreamy, noisy collection of songs featuring dense layers of guitars and keyboards washing over driving beats. Reviews: "A haunting Jesus and Mary Chain rattle filtered through an anthemic guitar line as driven as something from another avian outfit, Doves..." - Spin "this four piece builds luxuriant canopies of british heart racers doves and elbow but bearing the intriguing twist of wounded vocals landing somewhere between dean wareham and mercury rev." - San Francisco Guardian "the Pixies re-imagined by Lush" - bullz-eye "soaring pop melodies" - usounds "melodic, memorable pop music that is, at times, slightly reminiscent of The Tyde." (5/5) - babysue "Vocalist Jack Burnside recalls a softer, less dramatic Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes... a quiet stunner of a debut" - sound as language "These guys remind me a bit of what Interpol would sound like if they weren't trying to be Joy Division. It's a sort of shoegazey, downtempo'd post-punk" - I guess I'm floating "Indie Jayhawks meets shoegazer Ride/Jesus Mary Chain...your stereo will thank you." - The Tripwire"Also spent a lot of time with: the driving, layered guitars of Mezzanine Owls' "Slingshot Echoes..." - LA Times Best of 2006

Midnight Movies
Lion the Girl
PS, US Midnight Movies first made waves in 2004 with their eponymous debut, about which the LA Times called "undeniably cinematic". After a line-up change and a new label, they return with this release. The California landscape serves as a perfect backdrop for "Lion The Girl". The hypnotic vocals of Gena Olivier cut a seductive path through the layers of lovely psychedelic landscapes. The OC Weekly appropriately crowned Olivier with having "all the beauty and talent of a modern-day Grace Slick." Produced by Steve Fisk (Screaming Trees, Nirvana, Pell Mell). /// AVERSION: "Midnight Movies refines the spaced-out atmospheres of its self-titled debut (2004, Leftwing) and makes room for hooks and harmonics we'd expect from a super-modern guitar-pop band... Owing a little bit to The Jesus and Mary Chain and the faintest debt to Lush, Midnight Movies finds a rich, dense and compelling brand of twilight pop on Lion the Girl."

Wires Reply
PS, US The three members of NAMELESSNUMBERHEADMAN grew up together in a small town in Oklahoma, but the three of them (Jason Lewis, Andrew Sallee and Chuck Whittington) ultimately settled in Kansas City and have been playing, writing and recording as NNHM for about six years. Having released two prior full-length albums since July 2002 that have been received well, but it's with this ST. IVES release that they make their grand statement as artists. With "Wires Reply," they join the afternoon drive between your ears where Sparklehorse covers Skylarking in its entirety, where Pinetop Seven and Tortoise make 4-track tapes as teenagers, and The Notwist backs up Robert Pollard in the beautiful headspace of blissful lo-fi stereo. Cohesive in sound and vision, "Wires Reply" is a dream that doesn't jump around and confuse you, but calms and guides you through a hazy panoramic photograph. This is a balmy summer in Midwestern America. This is the smell of the trees and the street at the end of the longest days. This is a genuine, honest celebration but, all the same, it is fighting the sinking feeling that there is no one left to believe anymore. The guitars buzz. The drums crack. The mellotrons whir. The three sing at the top of their lungs.

As with all St. Ives releases, "Wires Reply" is a VINYL LIMITED EDITION RELEASE (to just 300 copies). The artwork is lovingly hand-wrought by the band in a celebration of folk art and the return to care in record making.

Ocean/Conifer
Split LP
PS, US This split 12" release is limited to 1000 copies and pressed on rust and grey color vinyl. It is packaged in a screen printed mylar jacket with a screen printed mylar insert and a screen printed paper insert. Cover artwork is of a 19th century statue located at the center of Portland Maine, the dramatic coastal home of both groups. This is the sound of a musical brotherhood entirely unique to Ocean & Conifer. Over the years Ocean and Conifer have shared vans, stages, members, practice spaces, apartments, beers, a city and a kindred musical spirit. In a lot of ways it's a shock that that split hasn't happened already but perhaps it was so obvious that nobody noticed that it needed to happen. Sometimes the truth is right beneath your nose. With their original drummer back in the line-up, since Eric Brackett left to focus his energy on Ocean, Conifer has re-enlisted their original drummer Nate Nadeau. With Nate back in the group they're heavier, tighter and more united than ever before. They've toured and player with Mono, Black Dice, High On Fire, Asva, Mouth Of The Architect and many more. Summer of 2006 saw them embark on an ambitious 26 city tour. Ocean's 20 minute epic was recorded in the same sessions that birthed their next album, currently untitled, for Important. Containing all of the epic minimalist intensity and robust
heaviness that has gained them international attention, The Undoing is a whole new level.

Oliveros, Pauline
Accordion & Voice
PS, US Pauline Oliveros (b. 1930) is an accordionist and composer who currently resides in Kingston, New York. Her instrument is tuned in Just Intonation and she often includes it in her meditative improvisational music. Her music is not meditative in the sense that it is intended for listening to while meditating, rather each piece is a form of meditation, such as her aptly titled Sonic Meditations. A central figure in post-war electronic art music, Oliveros is one of the original members of the San Francisco Tape Music Center (along with Morton Subotnick, Ramon Sender, Terry Riley, and Anthony Martin), which was the resource on the U.S. west coast for electronic music during the 1960s. The Center later moved to Mills College, where she was its first director, and is now called the Center for Contemporary Music. Oliveros often improvises with the Expanded Instrument System, an electronic signal processing system she designed, in her performances and recordings. "Accordion and Voice was the first of my recordings as a soloist. I was living in an A-frame house in a meadow just below Mount Tremper at Zen Mountain Center. I had a wonderful view of the graceful saddle mountain top. When away on a performance trip I would imagine the mountain as I played Rattlesnake Mountain. I followed the feelings and sensations of my many experiences of the mountain - the changing colors of the season, the breezes and winds blowing through the grasses and trees. Horse Sings From Cloud taught me to listen to the depth of a tone and to have patience. Rather than initiating musical impulses of motion, melody and harmony I wanted to hear the subtlety of a tone taking space and time to develop. The tones linger and resonate in the body, mind, instrument and performance space. My thanks to Important Music for bringing these pieces to be heard again." - Pauline Oliveros 2007

Oliveros, Pauline
The Wanderer
PS, US The Wanderer is based on a single modal scale (B C# D D# E F# G#) and rhythmic modes based on a meter consisting of 3/4 and 3/8. Part I, Song, is intended to explore the unique resonant qualities of accordion reeds through long sounds. Subtle variations come about from differences in tuning and air pressure. Part II, Dance, demonstrates the sharp accenting power of the accordion bellows in a mixture of cross rhythms characteristic of jigs, reels, batucadas, Bulgars, klezmer forms, Cajun dances, and music of other diverse cultures. The Wanderer was composed in November, 1982 especially for the Springfield Accordion Orchestra, directed by Sam Falcetti. This recording documents The Wanderer's world premiere, as it was performed 27 January, 1983 at Marymount Manhattan Theatre. The orchestra consists of twenty accordions, two bass accordions, and five percussion, with Pauline Oliveros as soloist, Sam Falcetti conducting. Horse Sings From Cloud, written in 1975, is one of Oliveros' best known works. Like most of her Sonic Meditations, it can be performed vocally and/or instrumentally, solo or in collaboration. A solo version of Horse Sings From Cloud has been recorded on Accordion & Voice. An early version of the score reads, "Sustain a tone or sound until any desire to change it disappears. When there is no longer any desire to change the tone or sound, then change it." This time, Horse Sings From Cloud is performed in ensemble. Joining Pauline Oliveros on bandoneion are Heloise Gold on Harmonium, Julia Haines on accordion, and Linda Montano on concertina. This quartet version incorporates the microtonal differences in tuning of the selected instruments, creating shimmering reed sounds somewhat similar to the shimmering of a Balinese gamelan.

First Original Silence
PS, US A monster is born, a clash of the the titans! The new band of THURSTON MOORE (SONIC YOUTH), TERRIE EX (THE EX), JIM O'ROURKE, MATS GUSTAFSSON (THING), PALL NILSSEN-LOVE (THING), & MASSIMO PUPILLO (ZU). Recorded live on the OS Italian tour, September 2005 in Teatro Arisoto, Reggio Emilia, Italy, to be more specific. This is the first in a series of recordings from OS. Musically one can hear the obvious influences from early Sonic Youth & The Ex mixed with the Scandinavia free-jazz. But you can hear their many influences from Black Flag, to drone rock, to Albert Ayler, to Boredoms, to noise, punk, Dead C, Merzbow & 60s minimalism. This is 100% improvised rock. Part Chimp
CUP
PS, US Less than a year ago, PART CHIMP toured the United States bearing $99 guitars duct taped together, a ramshackle drumkit with pom poms, and stacks of junkyard amps...not really your optimum selection of rock gear. But, from the first click down on their octave pedals, Part Chimp laid into one of the most devastatingly awesome tours on which the MONITOR team has ever laid their eyes and ears. It was on this tour that we became aware that Part Chimp were the most under appreciated rock band active today. Who else plays this loud, with this much fury!?!? Part Chimp continues their course with their new Monitor release "CUP." A compilation only available in North America, "CUP" contains the new single "New Cross", rarities, alternative versions of past tracks, a previously unreleased cover of the BEATLES' "Wild Honey Pie", and two music videos. The album, just like the live show, is raw, raucous, and will just as easily rip your head off if the volume is adjusted correctly.

Pjusk
Sart
PS, US Sart is the debut full-length cd from Norwegian duo Jostein Dahl Gjelsvik and Rune Sagevik, collectively known as Pjusk. First heard on 12k's Blueprints (12k1039) compilation, Pjusk's sound can be characterized as warm, dark, delicate, and wet. Sart builds a cavernous scape that listens like a surreal storybook, utilizing a combination of electronics, dub, rhythm, found sounds such as tape machine noise, fans, and ski lifts as well as field recordings from around the world. It is in their inspiration from very human events, such as private conversations, empty rooms, or smells that gives Pjusk's music a strangely familiar yet very disconnected and alien mood. They are very interested in the presence or disappearance of man and mankind's impact on nature, building on this dichotomy of tension as they create their work. Difficult to immediately classify, Pjusk carry on the organic and tonal tradition of 12k's recent output but twist it into darker and more narrative territory. Sart is a beautifully produced debut that clearly carves out the artists' own niche in electronic music. Pjusk is a duo from the westcoast of Norway. Jostein Dahl Gjelsvik started doing electronic music in the early nineties techno scene and layed live around the country with the Neural Network band. A dozen releases have since appeared both solo and in various bands. Most prominently the Circular project which relased several acclaimed albums on the same label as the Biosphere work of that era. Rune Andre Sagevik was an early party promoter way out in the vividly beautiful countryside in the deep fjords. He started doing electronic music a decade ago. The Pjusk project began when Jostein many years later heard one of these tracks on the radio. He liked it so much that he made contact with Rune and a fruitful, productive collaboration started in 2005. In the two years that have passed they have released work on compilations and their debut cd Sart, on 12k in New York.

PS, US New album from GBV/Budweiser guy. RETRO-LO-FI: "On first glance, Bob's new EP Silverfish Trivia looks like it contains nearly as many instrumentals as it does actual songs, but it plays through like a singular twenty-minute piece. In 2006 Village Voice music critic Robert Christgau caught a performance of "Polio" at the tail end of Pterodactyl's set and ranked it the best "tail end" in a month of New York live shows, writing: "A 20-minute Dungen song deserved its 10-minute flute solo. Reininger, Blaine L.
Elektra / Radio Moscow
PS, UK 19 tracks. Blaine L. Reininger is one of the creative mainsprings behind the cult avant-garde band Tuxedomoon. As a solo artist he has produced some ten solo albums, including Broken Fingers (1982), Night Air (1984), Live in Brussels (1986), Instrumentals (1989) and Night Air #2 (2004). Elektra/Radio Moscow combines two haunting instrumental soundtracks written and arranged by Blaine. Elektra was commissioned for a version of the Sophocles play staged at the Athens Festival in Summer 2006 by director Angela Brusko. Radio Moscow is the score for the 1995 film of the same name by director Nicholas Triandafyllidis. TUXEDOMOON formed in San Francisco in 1977 around the nucleus of Steven Brown, Blaine Reininger and Peter Principle. Following releases on the Residents' Ralph label, the band relocated to Europe in 1981. Their dozen-odd albums include the classics Half Mute, Desire, Ghost Sonata and Holy Wars. Their new album Bardo Hotel was released in 2006. Blaine L. Reininger was born in Colorado in 1953, and currently divides his time between Italy and Greece.

Scotland Yard Gospel Choir, The
In Hospital/Then and Not A Moment Before (Collector's edition - 250 only)
PS, US Collector's edition (250 only)
7" pink colored vinyl & digital download release. The Scotland Yard Gospel Choir have been doing it themselves and doing it well for a few self-released, well received singles and an album. They back it up with an amazing live show, piling the stage with instruments and guest musicians. This single is a collaboration between the band and their friends here at Microindie, longtime fans and supporters of the band. The folks at AMG list the Smiths, Billy Bragg, Belle and Sebastian and Camera Obscura in the band bio. The SYGC single is part of a back-to-basics approach by Microindie Records. Previous to running Microindie, label owner Mike Babb released many records on the 7" vinyl format which was a great pleasure. Due to decreasing vinyl demand and increasing cd demand, the cd format became the first option. With the increase in quantity and acceptability of digital downloading, Mike has decided to de-emphasize the cd format and release singles on the beloved 7" vinyl and digital download formats. There will also be a limited number of specially designed promotional discs produced for print and online reviewers

Quique (Redux Edition)
PS, US Double CD re-issue of this 1993 electro-ambient classic comprised of Seefeel's debut full-length, 'Quique', newly remastered plus a bonus disc with rare mixes and 6 unreleased tracks. Gorgeous packaging with poster, liner notes by Seefeel mainman Mark Clifford, etc. Quique is a real line-in-the-sand type record, very easy to divide things into "Pre" and "Post". In those crazy, post Stereolab high days of the early 90's this record hit hard and unlike anything that anyone expected. It is safe to say that it would be very hard to imagine labels like Morr Music or the general cross-polinization of rock and electronic music that has happened over the last 10 years or so with out this record.

Smegma
33 1/3
PS, US 33 1/3 is Smegma's tribute to their 20th century avant-garde and out-jazz influences. The title is one part reference to the happy revival of passionate vinyl listening in the 21st century and one part celebration of their long hard slog of 33 1/3 years of being one of the most free thinking and original American underground groups. Their focus, ideas and determination has brought them through more than three decades and to this day they remain unparalleled, original and highly influential. 33 1/3 is enhanced with live videos of Happy Holidays live at End Times Festival (with Spencer Yeh and Twig Harper) as well as Grubsteak live at the Three Million Tongues festival in Chicago. Smegma. Seriously. They've been at it for so long now that you can't really even say they sound like anyone else. You can only say that others sound like them. They're all here on 33 1/3: Oblivia, Ju Suk Reet Meate, Burned Mind, Conroy, Dr. Id. The core group drumming up their influences and pulling off another burning album of magnificent proportions. . While Smegma has never really fit in anywhere their influence on the modern avant garde and improvised noise scene is absolutely undeniable. However, it's essential to remember that Smegma has never been noise for noise's sake. While they've had two feet firmly planted in avant-garde & free jazz one must not forget their rock roots as well. For this reason alone they're bound to not fit in anywhere. Influences aside, not matter how much everyone else sounds like Smegma, you can bet that Smegma is always going to sound like nobody else. Nobody else channels so much energy, effort, influence or sound into their work. They may just be the greatest American band. Ever.

Stafraenn Hakon
Gummi
PS, UK Much-anticipated brand new full length from one of the leading lights of Iceland's burgeoning alternative music scene, following 2004's "Ventill/Poki" and the accompanying debut UK tour. Stafraenn Hakon is the pseudonym of Olafur Josephsson, and "Gummi" is his fourth album release for UK indie Resonant - the first two effectively being full releases for his bedroom recordings. While "Ventill/Poki" represented his first material recorded with a supporting cast - a progression that was very evident in comparison to his previous output - "Gummi" marks a further giant leap forward in every respect. Having established himself as a predominantly instrumental artist, Josephsson will surprise many with the inclusion of six full vocal tracks among the nine included here - featuring Birgir Hilmarsson (Blindfold/Ampop) on five tracks and Efterklang's Casper Clausen on one, alongside other guest musicians and collaborators. While recognising the need to constantly evolve in order to maintain and expand upon your audience, the key elements that have always marked out Stafraenn Hakon from the crowded post-rock platform are still very much in place; delicate, intricate instrumentation and atmospherics, building slowly and organically, drawing in the listener. Sure to be his biggest album to date, "Gummi" is housed in a full colour CD wallet featuring stunning hand-drawn artwork, and will be supported by UK tour dates around the release.

Stevens, Sufjan
Seven Swans (reissue)
PS, US When thinking about re-issuing the vinyl version of "Seven Swans," SUFJAN and I decided to look back at some of the unmixed tracks that didn't make the cut for the record. I went back to the 1/4" 8 track tapes and made rough mixes of these recordings to play for Sufjan. "Seven Swans" was actually recorded before "Michigan", so we had an early version of "Romulus" that Sufjan had decided didn't work with the album. Also we had a song "Borderline" which ended up on a Rough Trade 7". The two remaining songs, "I Went Dancing With My Sister" and "Waste Of What Your Kids Won't Have," were great fun to hear again. I put bass lines down on them and mixed them up for Sufjan to hear. We liked what we heard, but felt that they still belong separate from the album. So here we are with the vinyl re-issue of "Seven Swans." It's an album that I so proud to have been part of and still enjoy listening to. THE VINYL MASTERING IS BETTER, THE VINYL IS THICKER, THE COVER IS MATTE INSTEAD OF SHINY, AND IT'S GOT A BONUS 7" OF TWO SUFJAN SONGS FROM THE "SEVEN SWANS" SESSIONS THAT ARE NOT AVAILABLE IN ANY OTHER FORMAT. Superdrag
Changin' Tires on the Road to Ruin
PS, US B-sides and live stuff, kick-assedly collected on one CD. When you play in a band for 10 years, you write a lot. Usually, you only get a record out every couple of years so you're going to end up with a fair number of songs that never see the light of day for one reason or another. Sometimes the version that's issued on record will be your second or third attempt to get it "right" so your demos are left behind like pieces of evidence. People sometimes care about 'em, sometimes they don't. You'll wind up with hundreds of live recordings, mostly of dubious origin. A good percentage of these will be terrible, others might be great, and some will hold sentimental value because of the places and times they stand for: good or ill. These are just some of the things this record is concerned with...

Tears Run Rings
Question & An Answer
PS, US It would be difficult to avoid comparing this dense, sweeping production to shoegaze veterans Slowdive or My Bloody Valentine-- but this is not imitation or ritual. TRR have artfully defined their sound with a subtly seldom expressed by their predecessors. The title track is guided by beautifully layered guitars & controlled noise, at times bursting with rich detail. It dazzles with emotions that swirl up into a crescendo of distortion & ambient sound. Elsewhere, the distinct poppiness of "Blur the Lines" & "Tomorrow" is underlined with a sadness fashioned of boy-girl harmonies. 5 song CDEP in digipak.

Three Leaf Clover
PS, US Like the end of a long road-trip with The Velvet Underground if Neil Young was in the drivers seat. Hypnotic yet grounded & perhaps a little dangerous, renowned visual-artist WTs music picks up in that middle-ground where those like Galaxie 500 & M. Ward have left off. WT takes simple, everyday events & concepts and turns them into exquisite moments while not falling into the trappings of dwelling on himself or looking for attention. These apartment recordings are somehow more potent, more stark & personal than live shows. The absence of drums on well over half of the record brings you closer to the songwriting. You can hear the empty room. The subtle noises & hums, the alarm bells, sudden crashes & simulated bird calls are all allowed to exist as part of the composition.

The show was a success & this also led to the critically acclaimed EP "Sounds Like A Sandwich". It was immediately decided that the two bands & the legend should go into studio to record a full length album. On the album the bands do their own versions of tracks like "Who The Fuck" by PJ Harvey, "Baby Talk" by James Blood Ulmer among others. PS, US Reference Points: múm, lali puna, brian eno, the books, air, to rococo rot, tristeza, album leaf, boards of canada, fennesz, matmos, neu, tortoise, do make say think, bjork, aphex twin, dntel, languis. Overview: Unrecognizable Now is the duo of Marcus Fischer and Matthew Jones, two young men from North Portland who blend organic instruments and field recordings into an evolving collage of melodies and rhythms with their laptops. You may have seen or heard Marcus's work before: He has designed album covers for various bands on K Records out of Olympia, Washington; has handled live projections for Hovercraft (remember Eddie Vedder's ex-wife?); and has styled Adidas products for the past few years. You also may have seen him drumming in the Sleater Kinney side-project named Tommy, or one of many other Olympia bands. Unrecnow's live shows have hypnotized Portland residents with projected film paintings, layers of real-time xylophone, drums, guitar sinews, sine waves and glitches. Now you can enjoy this experience in your home. Enhanced CD also contains an ice-themed video directed by Rob Tyler. If you read Wire magazine, enjoy going to Cologne, or if you are a fan of music straddling post and electronic worlds, you will love in a cave or a coma.

Vapnet
Något Dåligt Nytt Har Hänt
PS, SWEDEN Vapnet doesn't stray too far from the band's effervescent pop compositions, although it does sound like they've tidied up the arrangement for their guest Jens Lekman, that features on one of the tracks. Bells, flute, melodica, guitar, and that show-stealing sax blow kisses to one another over a percolating beat, goosing the stop/start melody to that exuberant filigree that leads so joyously into the chorus. Despite the exuberance of the music, an undercurrent of melancholy runs through it.

SC100
PS, US This is Secretly Canadian's 100th release, finally stamped and shipped out on its 11-year anniversary. All artists who issued recordings from SC01 (JUNE PANIC, "Glory Hole") to SC99 (SWEARING AT MOTORISTS, "Last Night Becomes This Morning") were up for inclusion to cover a song by a label mate via the ol' names-in-a-hat method. So step back a bit just a few years and settle in or dust off those old SC albums to refresh with the originals. While the pre-SC100 discography is packed with Indiana heavies, there have been extended stays and shack-ups in Bloomington by most of the SC roster, be it a few days, or monthly rates at the College Inn, or even more permanent. No one wants to get hokey here, but this is a communal gathering, a family jamboree where each takes a turn, fugs it up a smidge, and pays homage to tourmates of past, or in some takes, to personal strangers.

Voyces, The
Kissing Like It's Love
PS, US After one listen to The Voyces Planting Seeds Records' debut -"Kissing Like It's Love" - and you'll be hooked to their glowing tuneful style. The band echoes the sounds of pop music's past as well as its ever so fervent future. Principal songwriter Brian Wurschum creates the well crafted pop song, recalling the mid 60's era of The Beatles, the folk rock of Simon & Garfunkel, and the 70's mini rock epics ala Pink Floyd. Their style maybe placed in a box and labeled anywhere from: Rock, Folk Rock, Acoustic Folk Rock, New York Folk, and everywhere in between. The sunny California shine of the title track "Kissing Like It's Love" launches the groups long awaited LP with it's sugary sweet chorus. The soft ballad "Hair Up High" follows with its elegant smooth guitar strums and the band's signature harmonies. The majestic beauty of "Call It Home" continues the album's melodic element, while the introspective acoustic interlude "Please Wash Away" appears with its stripped down heartfelt vocals, acoustic guitar and light piano taps. "Humming" chimes in with one of the catchiest refrains you'll hear this decade - instantly memorable. "Top Of My Lungs," showcases even more of the Wurschum magic: Jangly guitars, soaring harmonies, and a song destined to be a classic. The album's closing number - the delicate "Where The Little Girls Still Throw Roses," features Brian's warm vocal, light guitar picking and makes for the perfect ending. Whether blending funky pop, epic rockers or near psychedelia, "Kissing Like It's Love" collects ten tracks of pure pop heaven you're sure to fall for. The Voyces are led by singer/songwriter Brian Wurschum (Guitar, Vocals) and also features Jude Kastle (Vocals), Frank Careno (Bass), Steve Dawson (Lead Guitar) and Eric Puente (Drums). The band was formed in 1999, with its origins in Southern California. Brian and company later moved east to New York City and was quickly embraced by the east villages' anti-folk scene. The Voyces have shared stages with acts as diverse as America, Cracker, and Regina Spektor among countless others - while frequenting venues (both in California and New York) such as the famed Whiskey A-Go-Go, The Troubadour, The Bowery Ballroom, The Mercury Lounge, The Knitting Factory and The Roxy. Live dates are sure to follow in support of "Kissing Like It's Love." The Voyces have created an impressive catalog of music. Their first self released LP, 2003's "The Angels Of Fun" showcased their fine blend of folk rock and celestial harmonies. The acoustic gem "Relate To Me" was featured on Jack Johnson's Motion Picture Soundtrack, "Thicker Than Water" (2003) furthering the groups worldwide fan base. They followed in 2004 with an appearance on Planting Seeds Records critically acclaimed collection "Sunsets And Silhouettes," which also features amazing performances from Linda Draper, Camera Obscura, Mark Gardener (Ride) and Freeheat (Jim Reid and Ben Lurie of The Jesus & Mary Chain) among the 18 tracks. In 2006 the band contributed the song "Poor Little Fool" to a loving tribute to rock legend and country rock pioneer Rick Nelson, titled "Easy To Be Free: The Songs of Rick Nelson" - with performances from pop Icons Marshall Crenshaw, Jeffrey Foskett (Beach Boys, Brian Wilson), John Beland (Flying Burrito Brothers), Nic Dalton (The Lemonheads), John McEuen (Nitty Gritty Dirt Band), The Primary 5 (ex Teenage Fanclub) and many more. The band also released "Love Arcade" in 2006 - a collection of the bands hits, demos, and fan favorites.

More controlled than many of their speaker destroying fuzz blasted speed guru jams, Crystal Rainbow Pyramid is focused on mystic ambient passages leading into Kawabata's head-heavy echo-riffs. Alsace Lorraine
Dark One (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 8TH) (ON SALE)
PS, US Alsace Lorraine is the delicately delicious and unique electronic/guitar pop creation of seminary professor Paul Francke. We're pleased to announce that our favorite singer on Earth, Argentinean Singer/Artist Isol has joined Alsace Lorraine to sing on four of the album's 14 tracks too. Isol sings here in English for the first time! Isol left her band Entre Rios (Elefant {Spain}/Darla {US}) when the group signed with EMI Latin America because the deal demanded too much time away from her profession as an Artist/Illustrator. Caitlin Brice sings backing vocals on two tracks. Jane Francke (Paul's sister) sings one track. The sophomore Alsace album Dark One, though not literally very "Dark", was recorded and mixed by Paul at Paul's home studio in Chicago. Isol's warm, exotic, sensual vocals were recorded in Isol's bedroom studio in Buenos Aires. Paul's unique bedroom uber-pop soundtrack provides the perfect music bed to Isol's vocal. The result is a unique blend of Astrud Gilberto, Wolfgang Press, Eurythmics, Pale Saints, St. Etienne, Magnetic Fields, Hope Sandoval, as well as The Wake, Section 25 and other Factory-esque influences. Hopefully, Paul and Isol will make more beautiful music together. Alsace Lorraine sounds romantic; thoughtful, sensuous and smart. Comment from Paul Francke: I began the album begun during college on the south side of Chicago and completed it while working in Campbeltown, on the end of the Kintyre Peninsula, the most remote part of mainland Britain. Between those points I worked on the record in an Episcopalian seminary dormitory in Alexandria, Virginia, while training to be a seminary professor. It couldn't have been done without my brilliant, non-religious friends: Isol sings four of the best songs on the album, but she also made important suggestions for changes to the lyrics and music. We share a lot of beliefs regarding art and beyond, and it has been fascinating to work with her. Her friend Nico recorded her vocals in a studio in Buenos Aires. Caitlin Brice, the lead singer from the previous album, sings excellent backup on two songs here. Joe Moore plays guitar on one song, and my younger sister Jane sings on one song as well.

Beatnik Filmstars
henaniganism (Tape Hiss & Other Imperfections) (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 1ST)
PS, UK Beatnik Filmstars return with their eighth full length album, and this one is really something else. More 'Odd-Pop' sure! The group recorded a new album ('If We Did That Then...') at the end of last year, but in typical Beatnik fashion, decided to record another more Lo-Fi one straight away, in the space of two weeks, despite not having any songs. So everything you hear on this album was written and recorded in a two week period in February (the other new Mid-Fi album will be released later...). As usual everything was self recorded in their homes, on a variety of recording equipment, from plain old cassette to 8 Track. No computers were allowed anywhere near the music... Some journalists will slate the record for it's under-produced sound, but Beatnik Filmstars hate the over polished sheen on modern pop music. If this group, nicknamed the 'British GBV' really are the 'British GBV' then this album must surely be their 'Bee Thousand'. Fans of eccentric British pop music will love this album. Imagine a Lo-Fi Kinks, with a hint of The Fall at their most melodic, with Smiths style humour, and Syd Barrett conducting. Fans of the group's earlier albums 'Phase 3' and 'In Hospitalable' will love this record. New fans will be delighted with this collection of songs. This album should be the soundtrack to your summer. Only you can make it so...The first 500 copies all come with a one of a kind hand made booklet, wrapped in a printed Tracing Paper sleeve, packaged in a jewel case with a yellow tray. Some recent quotes about the Beatnik Filmstars: Screwball, infectious and ablaze with more hooks than a Japanese deep sea fishing trawler.More deranged episodes than an acid flashback resulting from a bad trip. Wonky pop with Investing mock Stones and Cockney Rebel harmonies aplenty, the warming glow of the barbed fuzzy felt like West Coast fizz pop. Delicious, dinky and distracted, the trip like laid back kookiness seductively subtly evoking elements of Bacharach. A spliff smoking day-glo kaleidoscopic tapestry lysergic enhanced celestial honey crusted waltz nuzzling snow baked gem.

Blue Gene Tyranny
Out of the Blue (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 8TH)
PS, US For the first time on CD, here is the official reissue of 'Blue' Gene Tyranny's first album from 1977 (originally one of the first Lovely Music releases) beautifully remastered, with new artwork and 24-page booklet. Blue is a Grammy-nominated composer and pianist who has performed on records by Robert Ashley (Perfect Lives), John Cage, and Laurie Anderson, yet this is quite different. Composing for what is essentially a chamber rock ensemble, a cast of female vocalists, and himself on the Polymoog and RMI synthesizers, Blue has created a song-cycle that reflects his intensely melodic and free piano technique in a polished studio record. Out of the Blue elegantly combines adventurous New Music technique, the style and appeal of pop music, and the grace of classical music to form an unclassifiable and totally revelatory whole. The album consists of the sublimely poppy "Next Time Might Be Your Time," the searing and soaring instrumental "for David K.," the soulful, contemplative hymn "Leading a Double Life," and finally the casually-epic 26-minute for voices & electronic and acoustic instruments, "A Letter from Home"- upon reissue declared an "ambitious and moving masterpiece" by the New York Times.

Brown, Steven
Brown Plays Tenco + Live 1988 (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 29TH)
PS, UK Steven Brown is a core member of cult avant garde band Tuxedomoon. As a solo artist he has recorded some ten solo albums, including Music For Solo Piano (1983), Searching For Contact (1987), Half Out (1991), Nine Rain (1996) and Decade (2003). Brown Plays Tenco was recorded in Italy in 1987 and features Steven's own interpretations of five songs written by cult artist Luigi Tenco. Born in Cassine in 1938, Tenco scored many hits as a singer in Italy during the 1960s, but shot himself through the head at the San Remo Festival in 1967 after Ciao amore ciao (Hello, Love, Hello), failed to reach the final. The suicide note explained that his suicide was a gesture of protest against the jury's taste in music. Never available on CD before, Brown Plays Tenco has now been digitally remastered with twelve bonus tracks recorded live in Italy in 1988. These include in-concert renditions of songs by Luigi Tenco as well as solo material by both Brown (Besides All That, rwf) and Tuxedomoon (What Use?, Egypt , Lowlands Tone Poem). Artist Resume: Steven Brown was born in Chicago in 1952, and currently resides in Mexico City. Tuxedomoon formed in San Francisco in 1977 around the nucleus of Steven Brown, Blaine Reininger and Peter Principle. Following a string of releases on the Residents' Ralph label, the band relocated to Europe in 1981. Their dozen-odd group albums include the classics Half Mute, Desire, Suite En Sous-Sol, Ghost Sonata and Holy Wars. The latest TM album Bardo Hotel was released in 2006.

Damiak
Micalavera (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 1ST)
PS, US Abe Dichi who's musical works are released via the Damaik alias is what you would classify as a true cosmopolitan musical entity. Spending most of his life moving between Mexico, Europe and the United States somehow gives his debut album "Micalavera" for n5MD an undercurrent of international, almost globalized, method. Add in the mixing and mastering of Mio and Valgeir Sigurdsson (Bjork, Mum, Bonnie "Prince" Billy) at Greehouse Studios in Iceland and this compounds the borderless sense of musical place that Micalavera embodies. The album title which roughly translates to "my skeleton" utilizes guitars, melodium, harmodium, violin, piano, field recordings, and live drums as well as electronic elements and edits that may recall similar moments to Sigurdsson's copatriots Mum and Blindfold or even to the more delicate moments of Dntel. Micalavera is an absorbing mix of many musical styles interwoven into a bright, affectionate, yet cohesive whole that features 12 vignettes of multicultural instrumentation, technique, and raw wondrous emotion.

PS, US Reunion album by all original members (J, Lou, and Murph, and all the accompanying disfunctional psychoses and neuroses) is one of the finest "comebacks" in the history of "comebacks". Fat Possum says (and we agree): "Beyond is a monster of form. From the staggeringly paced guitar spew that opens "Almost Ready" to classic soft/throb dynamism of "What If I Knew," Beyond is an exquisite slab of pure Dinosaur Jr. It's hard to understand the alchemical relationships that exist within certain bands. Some groups can change line-ups without anyone noticing. But that was never really the case with Dinosaur Jr. The pieces that fell away over the years were missed. But now they have all been collected together in one place. For how long no one can say. So just dig it while it is. Because Beyond is beautiful."

Duncan, Paul
Above the Trees (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 1ST)
PS, US Paul Duncan, a Texan now in Brooklyn, constructed his first two records homemade studios. His music has always been marked by the unique combination of traditional instruments - guitar, pedal steel, drums, banjo, strings, glockenspiel, piano, horns - and confident exploration of synthesis and noise. This was the essence of 2003's To An Ambient Hollywood and 2005's Be Careful What You Call Home, both released on Hometapes, both critically acclaimed, and both built from the ground up. Above The Trees breaks rank from its two predecessors both in impetus and craftsmanship. The album, grown of the ether of experience rather than a catalogue of strict memory, was written in a short three months and recorded in an even shorter week What may be Paul's most musically straightforward record yet may also be his most psychologically complex. Through a turbulent and sensual process, he takes into account the intangible - the ebb and flow above the trees - and translates it all through people and the instruments in their hands. Paul traveled to Chicago to record Above The Trees with engineer Tim Iseler at Soma EMS. Something came to life during that hot week in July, and with the help of many old and new friends; the record features performances by Adam Wills (Rhys Chatham's Essentialist, Bear In Heaven), Christopher Bear (Grizzly Bear), David Daniell (San Agustin, Rhys Chatham's Essentialist), Doug McCombs (Tortoise, Brokeback). Fred Lonberg-Holm (Terminal 4, Lightbox Orchestra), Joe Stickney (Rhys Chatham's Essentialist, Bear in Heaven), Josh Berman (Rob Mazurek's Exploding Star Orchestra), Ken Champion (Jim O'Rourke), Nate Lepine (Cursive, Smog), Nate Swanson, and Tim Daisy (The Vandermark 5). For Above The Trees, the studio became Paul's home, and these players his visitors. The result may be the most heartfelt and sonically exciting record in Paul's infinitely expanding catalogue of sound.

PS, US New album! Over the past two years, the profile of Swedish psychedelic rockers Dungen has grown at an alarming rate, from a cult studio project into a worldwide musical phenomenon. And on Tio Bitar, we're hearing the end results of an outpouring of success and support - one which has, for once, inspired the creative processes at hand to make something wholly new and original, yet remaining within the same sphere of emotions that fostered Dungen's three previous albums. Gustav Ejstes, Dungen's founder and principal member, made Tio Bitar (translated, "Ten Pieces") - a bracing display of psychedelic rock, presented with a bright, avid confidence - largely by himself, with the assistance of guitarist Reine Fiske. Gustav wrote the songs, and played all of the instruments on his own, with Reine on many lead guitar and bass parts; his style of play puts him well within the top ranks of modern guitar heroes past and present.

Electrelane
No Shouts, No Calls (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 8TH)
PS, US Following "Rock It To The Moon" (2001), "Power Out" (2004), and "Axes" (2005), there seems to be a new kind of light shining on Electrelane that remains strong throughout this record, but the willingness to push the envelope hasn't left the band either. "No Shouts No Calls" is an album of enticingly irregular brilliance. "Electrelane effortlessly assimilate a wide cut of moods and influences - the off kilter harmony of the Velvet Underground, the droning insistence of Krautrock heroes Can, the bratty brashness of feminist popsters Le Tigre - into a heartfelt batch of art-pop that never sounds snobby" -Blender.

Flash Hawk Parlour Ensemble
Plastic Bag In A Tree (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 15TH)
PS, US CHRIS FUNK (DECEMBERISTS) has made a gorgeous, instrumental space-folk recording with a little help from his friends. In 2005, Chris Funk & his family moved into their new home in Portlands historic Mississippi neighborhood. He would play various instruments on his porch during hot summer nights, which caught the attention of his neighbors. He soon found out there was an unusual amount of musical activity on his block, and that he was surrounded by closet folksmen & recovering band geeks. Funk invited his neighbors in for weekly living room hootenannies, and this recording documents those times in an array of cover songs & original "jams" written in a haze fueled by fellowship, libations & other unmentionables.

Forest Giants
Things We Do When We're Bored (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 1ST)
PS, UK Forest Giants record, produce and write everything themselves. They design their own sleeves. They arrange their own gigs. They make their records in rehearsal rooms and people's houses. There are no publicists, no producers, no managers, no a&r, no agents, no drugs, no nothing. In the world of popular music, this is what it means to be truly lo-fi... This is the Forest Giants third and last album. It's a double album actually. The record is full of pop songs, and we think it sounds a bit like a cross between New Order, Galaxie 500, Smog and some other good bands.. On the record there's a song about going to the dog races, and a song about getting an operation at Christmas. There's a song about giving someone a trumpet
for their birthday, and a song about religious cults. There's a song about insomnia and a song about Peter Perrett. Oh, and before we forget, there are lots of songs about relationship breakdowns, without which no Forest Giants album would ever be complete.

High Strangeness (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 15TH)
PS, US Houseguests live shows have, in the past, turned into debacles, with shirt removal, sing-alongs, and drunken arguments between band members as par for the course. Much more than just five badly behaved college bums. The songwriting is well honed & the sound is the bands own. The group has seen much of the horror of life, but would rather instill hope than coddle despair. The albums fourteen tracks range from frenetic pop barnburners to heartfelt, anthemic ballads. Recorded & produced by Patrick Carney (BLACK KEYS). "While the abandon of their stage presence is something to behold, what they are capable of committing in the studio is staggeringly beautiful, skewed pop." -PopMatters

Lewis, Wyndham
The Enemy Speaks (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE APRIL 2ND)
PS, UK The first CD audiobook of readings by Percy Wyndham Lewis (1882-1957), the influential British modernist writer, artist and self-styled 'Enemy' feted both by T.S. Eliot and Mark E. Smith. Lewis is best known as the founder in 1914 of the celebrated Vorticist art movement, an English variant of Italian Futurism. Publication of their journal Blast was interrupted by WW1, after which Lewis the artist pursued a parallel career as a writer of fiction, satire and criticism. Lewis spent the war years 1939-45 in penniless exile in America , yet carried on writing even after going blind in 1951. His many books include Tarr (1918), The Apes of God (1930), Blasting & Bombardiering (1937), The Revenge for Love (1937) and the trilogy The Human Age. His artworks include Workshop (1913), A Battery Shelled (1919), Tyro (1920) Red Portrait (1937), The Surrender of Barcelona (1937) and Portrait of T.S. Eliot (1938), and are regularly exhibited by galleries including the Tate, Hayward, Imperial War Museum and others. The Enemy Speaks gathers together rare broadcast recordings made by Lewis in 1938, 1947 and 1951 on various subjects in art and politics, as well as readings of three poems from One-Way Song, recorded at Harvard in 1940. The CD also features a dramatized extract from his Bloomsbury-baiting satire The Apes of God, recorded in 1951 with an introduction by the critic V.S. Pritchett. The CD closes with the recording of Sympathy that so vexed Lieutenant Lewis in his dug-out near Ypres in 1917. The CD features a deluxe booklet featuring archive Lewis images as well as historical notes by James Hayward. The CD has been prepared with the full co-operation of the Wyndham Lewis Memorial Trust.

Lindt, Virna
Shiver (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 8TH)
PS, UKAn extended CD reissue of 'Shiver', the debut album by Swedish pop sophisticate Virna Lindt, originally released by The Compact Organisation in 1983. Written and produced by Virna Lindt and Tot Taylor, the acclaimed Shiver album offers 12 slices of chic, Cold War pop informed by 1960s spy thriller soundtracks and musique concrete, including the singles Attention Stockholm and I Experienced Love. The album has been digitally remixed and re-modelled from the original mastertapes, and now sounds even more immaculate than before. The new edition of Shiver also features bonus track The Windmills of Your Mind, a rare Michel Legrand cover version from The Thomas Crown Affair originally recorded for the Crepuscule movie compilation Moving Soundtracks. Contemporary reviews for Shiver:"Intrepid undercover agent disguised as a top international fashion model sets out on a secret mission behind the Iron Curtain, armed only with a firm sense of fair play and a gadget-filled powder compact" (NME); "Euro-eccentric. Virna Lindt casts herself as a mysterious blonde in a loving pastiche of Continental movie music" (Sounds); "Only the surly amongst you can fail to acknowledge the splendour of Virna Lindt's new single I Experienced Love, and the equally thrilling Shiver lp, the epitome of Compact's sleek, chic Sixties tease" (The Face); "Imagine a pastiche of all those old Sixties spy series, like Danger Man, The Avengers and The Man From Uncle. Well, this would be the perfect soundtrack to go with it" (London Evening Standard). The CD also features a deluxe 12 page booklet featuring original artwork and detailed dossier on Virna Lindt. Lindt, Virna
Play/Record (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 8TH)
PS, UK The first release on CD of 'Play/Record', the second album by Swedish pop sophisticate Virna Lindt, originally released by The Compact Organization in 1985. Written and produced by Virna Lindt during a three-week holiday in London, Play/Record tackles girls who cannot stand the colour red, the numbing effect of the new media, and subterfuge and skulduggery in her adopted home town (the single My Home Town). The album has been digitally remastered by close collaborator Tot Taylor, and now sounds even more immaculate than before. Unfortunately Virna abandoned music forever after creating Play/Record, leaving the world a poorer place. Contemporary reviews for Play/Record: "Ms Lindt deftly conveys a sense of breezy, delirious Sixties camp. Arch instrumentals such as the title track and Add It Up are nothing short of wondrous, and the album is a delightful and accurate evocation of a period when music was allowed to be fun" (Melody Maker); "A uniquely crafted voiceover masterpiece, the diverse tempo moves from the sunny waft of single My Home Town to the more sombre tones of Any Colour But Red" (Sounds); "Lush, intelligent and very, very sexy" (Underground). The CD also features a deluxe 12 page booklet featuring original artwork and liner/recording notes.

Low Low Low La La La Love Love Love
Ends of June (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 29TH)
PS, US Initially intended as musical outlet for Kelly Dyson, Low Low Low La La La Love Love Love's full inception came in the form of a sudden, unplanned collaboration between Kelly and vocalist Natalia Brightmore. Instant musical chemistry coupled with a brief period of writing & recording yielded a complete body of bittersweet, forthright folk songs, self-released on the band's own Birds and Rodents label (UK) in 2004. Two years later, after randomly stumbling upon some breathtaking Low Low clips online, Portland, OR label Other Electricities realized there was something unique brewing overseas. The band with the impossibly long name occupied space in their ears and repeated listens only further reinforced the fascination. The two parties eventually got to talking and came to the conclusion that this music needed to reach a wider audience; these sounds just couldn't be slept on much longer. Ends of June is Low Low's second outing and first U.S. release, boasting twelve new, intimate tracks saturated in the same undeniable warmth and familiarity offered on their debut. Here, the music's immediacy and accessibility fails to wane even slightly, building upon the solid groundwork laid in the first album. Natalia's amicable departure and a change in line-up, currently featuring Kelly Dyson (guitar, lead vocals), Ellis Dyson (drums, clarinet, percussion), Chris Robinson (guitar, vocals), Hugo Edwardes (bass), Nick Guy (vocals, percussion), and Brian Lutchmiah (vocals, percussion), has filled out Low Low now more of a band then an "acoustic folk duo". Despite these alterations, no element of overall sound is compromised as new paths are traversed with regards to instrumentation and arrangement. Self recorded and produced in Ellis' bedroom studio, Ends of June showcases Low Low's progressive and deft grasp on songwriting. From the pensive yet infectious "The Way You Play," to the fluid lullaby
"Happiness at the New Day," it's near-impossible to deny the resultant intrigue of each composition, and of the record as a whole. These songs beckon to be taken in again and again... Collectively, the band members live and work in and around Manchester, England. To date, they have shared stages with the likes of Regina Spektor and Six Organs of Admittance. Plans are currently being made for a re-master/reissue of Low Low's s/t debut, which should be available in wider release mid-2007. "As acoustic documents of the breakdown of a long-term relationships go, this is up there. Recorded lo-fi style - in a bedroom apparently - this affecting release combines breathless harmonies and fragile tunes to achieve a strange warmth. Also makes Belle & Sebastian sound like Motorhead." - The Crack "Rooted firmly in the world of low/no-fi folk, this is a charming record that recalls the same juxtaposition of fragility and strength of character that suffused the early Elliott Smith albums." - Tangents. For Fans Of: Devendra Banhart, Iron & Wine, Six Organs of Admittance, Nick Drake Songs of Green Pheasant.

Magic Bullets
A Child but in Life Yet a Doctor in Love (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 29TH)
PS, US The astonishing debut album by the San Francisco sextet Magic Bullets. A tour-de-force with 10 songs that make friends with the rich traditions of post-punk (Gang of Four), new wave (early Talking Heads) and C86 (The Wedding Present), whilst introducing themselves to contemporaries influenced by these scenes (The Walkmen, French Kicks) with their own secret handshake. Singer Philip Benson's poised, dynamic croon towers over his contemporaries, yet does not overshadow his own band's intricate musicianship - a crafty layering of Felt-esque melodies onto Bizarro-era chords. "Yesterday's Seen Better Days" launches the record with a C86 meets "Ticket To Ride" guitar riff, coyly anticipating Benson's dramatic album entrance. Benson's voice - energetic, yet inconsolable - coaxes the listener into a world in which deceptively bright colors are used to draw bleak pictures. "Heatstroke" is an unforgettable renewal of the classic new wave territory paved by The Stranglers and Power, Corruption and Liesera New Order.

Makoto, Kawabata
Hosana Mantra (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 22ND)
PS, US Inspired by Popol Vuh and originally released in a tiny pressing of 550 on vinyl from the inimitable Acid Mothers Temple front man. Licensed from A Silent Place. Included on this cd reissue are the bonus tracks from the even more limited 7" included with 100 copies of the original LP. Guitarist, violinist, performer on numerous traditional instruments, composer, leader of the Acid Mothers Temple, Kawabata Makoto expresses in this solo performance all his mantric cosmical vocations and spins them into space sonorities! He took inspiration from the Popol Vuh album of the seventies Hosianna Mantra, during his visit to A Silent Place headquarters in late Winter 2006. In a sunny Sunday noon spent in the country-side, eating and drinking Apulian specialities and listening to some great experimental records, Makoto and his Italian friends Pierpaolo and Pasquale, took the decision to start this cooperation. A few days later, back in Japan, Makoto recorded the Hosanna Mantra album at the Acid Mothers Temple between March 12th and 13th, using electric guitar, bouzouki and sitar. The result is this new fantastic sound coming from the cosmos. A simple gem of crystalline beauty."Music, for me, is neither something that I create, nor a form of self-expression. All kinds of sounds exist everywhere around us, and my performances solely consist of picking up these sounds, like a radio tuner, and playing them so that people can hear them. However, maybe because my reception is somewhat off, I am unable to perfectly reproduce these sounds. That is why I spend my days rehearsing. Where do these sounds come from? Who is sending them out? That is not something for me to know, and neither is there any way that I could find out. I simply believe that they come from the 'cosmos'. (Maybe other people would call God the source). Since I was a small child I have been prone to hearing ringing sounds in my ears and other sound phantasms. At the time, I believed that these were messages aimed directly at me from a UFO, and so I would gaze up at the sky. But once I started playing music myself, I came to feel that these noises were a kind of pure sound. And I promised myself that one day I would be able to play those sounds myself. It is only recently that I have begun to feel that I have been able to come close to reproducing these sounds in my solo guitar work, and in my INUI project. However, in June of 1999, I finally discovered my own 'cosmos' and I experienced an instant of total union with it!! That 'cosmos' is still tiny in size - although any cosmos can, by its very nature, be infinitely huge or infinitely small. The energy and vibrations contained within that it far exceeded my imagination in scope and beauty. I can only describe the miraculous instant when my 'cosmos' accepted my consciousness as MAGIC." Mary Timony Band, The
The Shapes We Make (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 8TH)
PS, US Their Kill Rock Stars debut represents the latest stage in the evolution of one of the most important voices in underground music. Flowing from the mystic prog-laced veins that have informed her art for the past decade, this record builds upon the stark rebellious austerity of 2005's "Ex Hex" and imbues it with warmth and formidable urgency. Equal parts clairvoyance and virtuosity, Mary (formerly of Helium) and her musicians paint in broad strokes a vivid landscape of colorful musical shapes. Much more than a gifted crafter of melody, Timony is a talented multi-instrumentalist, recording among other things, intricately layered keyboards, banjos, analog synths, viola, the melotron, and a vintage Casio PT1.

Melnyk, Lubomyr
KMH (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 8TH)
PS, US Lubomyr Melnyk's debut album from 1978, KMH, is an unheralded touchstone of minimalism. Performing solo on piano with a speed that suggests multiple pianos playing together in harmony, Melnyk nearly brings out the full sound of the instrument all at once. His music is lush and maximal yet it possesses the restrained, slowly evolving nature found in music by artists like Steve Reich and Terry Riley. Melnyk developed his unique approach to minimalism while working with dancer/choreographer Carolyn Carlson (who also worked with Igor Wakhevitch) in Paris during the 1970's. Carlson's influence led Melnyk to create music that is dramatic enough for the stage yet meditative enough for deep listening, a version of minimalism with the engimatic traces of Satie. Remastered from the privately produced master tapes with new artwork and an 8-page photo booklet.

Mystery Jets
Zoo Time (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 8TH)
PS, US The Mystery Jets embody British pop at its most invigoratingly weird. Already, previous singles have seemed like dispatches from some starry-eyed parallel universe where Syd Barrett never dropped out but played on with Einsturzende Neubauten, where the irresistible pop of Dexy's can happily co-exist with the Krautrock explorations of Can, and where the most forbidding musical forms of the past, like prog rock, are gleefully reinvented in the smash-and-grab spirit of the present. With "ZooTime", be prepared to have your life forever enriched by a band relentless at breaking boundaries and enlightening one's soul with much of their own.

Nonloc
Between Hemispheres (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 15TH)
PS, US The solo guise of Mark Dwinell, the guitar-slinging ringleader of East Coast spontaneous trance rockers BRIGHT. Nonloc seeks to focus on the microtonal universes & hypnotic netherworlds minimalism awakens from repetition, while constructing ivory towers of melody enveloped top to bottom with softly barbed hooks. Acoustic & electric guitars provide focus instrumentation, but the elaborate color accumulation of Between Hemispheres is dominated by alternate layering of acoustic instruments such as piano, accordion, mandolin & cello. Whereas Bright will use vocals sparingly as instrumental color, Nonloc spices up the instrumental forays by peppering tunes with lyrics that are direct & at times strikingly personal.

Olausson, Jakob
Moonlight Farm (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 8TH)
PS, US Sweden's Olausson is a sugar beet farmer and his record of ten songs is somehow both comforting and unsettling, concerned with the classic subjects such as the garbage, the flowers, one's mother, and the love of them all. Laid thick with a vague dissonance, they possess a mask of fog/haze, but the trail between writer/performer/song is not often trodden in such a deftly crystalline manner. "From one loner to another, this is everything that the phrase 'private press' conjures up and more. A modern classic" - David Keenan, The Wire.

Noctilucent Valleys (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 8TH)
PS, US There exists a sense of optimism in Ovs humming analog drones, a floating light within a pack of ominous clouds. Nocilucent Valleys takes Ov's expansive palette, blurrs & disguises instrumental thresholds & presents sheer sound augmented by mysterious & mesmerizing gentle clamor. Initial impressions slowly morph into demonstrative bliss, synthesizing the organic & the unknown. The new project from prolific, longtime collaborators Christine Boepple (Skygreen Leopards contributor) & Jewelled Antlers Loren Chasse. Ov pushes the duos established scopic pallette further into the void. Touching upon traditional minimalism & psychedelic free-form folk music, NV plays like the soundtrack to an otherworldly fairy tale, with foggy oscillations guiding the extrinsic myth.

"Rich in melody and rife with dreamy natural/biblical imagery...Michael Nau's adolescent voice sweetly floats over occasional female backing vocals and sparse instrumentation (organ, glockenspiel, acoustic guitar)" - Spin. "Delicate chamber folk" - CMJ. "Spiritual-folk auteurs" - Alternative Press. "Pillowing melodies and effervescent hooks" - DIW. Paley, Tom
Beware Young Ladies! (DELAYED, PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 15TH)
PS, SWEDEN New recordings from underground folk legend Tom Paley, with special guest Bert Deivert, recorded in Sweden in early 2006. Tom has been recordings since the 50s! Tom Paley was born and raised in NYC, where he first fell in love with old-time music. He began playing guitar and 5-string banjo and quickly excelled at both instruments. He briefly performed in a duo with the great folk musician Woody Guthrie in the late 50s. Later he helped form The New Lost City Ramblers, with Mike Seeger and John Cohen. This group inspired a greater mainstream interest in traditional music. The Ramblers considered their live concerts primarily as opportunities to share great old songs they had discovered with their fellow folk performers. After The Ramblers broke up Paley formed The Old Reliable String Band (with Roy Berkeley and Artie Rose). Tom moved to Sweden, where he lived from 1963 to 1965, before moving to England where he has resided ever since. Tom continues to tour in America and Europe both solo and with other musicians.

Pandatone
Happy Together (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 1ST)
PS, US Hello. Since Pandatone himself runs Music Related - the label this CD "Happy Together" appears on - he thought it was weird to write his own press blurb. So I was asked to write it. We're old friends by NYC standards, so I headed out to Queens to listen to the tracks and talk to him about making it. Upon arrival, I proceed to harass him about his apartment. (I always do this.) "You're 30 now. Don't you think it's time to stop living like you're in college?" "But I just got this cool paper shredder and humidifier," came his retort. We moved into the "studio," which is more like a storage space for boxes of CDs and cables than a studio - or even a bedroom. He started playing me Happy Together, but I had to almost immediately ask, "What's the deal? I thought you said you'd never release any Pandatone material on your own label?" He replied, "Yeah, shit is fucked like that. But listen to it anyway." I agreed... shit is fucked, and so I shut my yap. On the album, there are some very nice songs featuring female vocalist "Julliana Barwick" - uplifting numbers with deep production. Although slow in tempo, they are upbeat in spirit. Then there are tracks with male vocals that are much more melancholy. Pandatone tells me he doesn't write lyrics. The words are just the "shit in his head" when he hits record. Lucky for him, I think they work well together - almost playing out like shattered romance. It's been almost three years since his debut LP on Neo Ouija records. Besides the use of acoustic guitar, I'm not sure there are many similarities between this record and his debut. The influence of running Music Related is almost instantly apparent. His room is full of instruments now - from child-sized toys to a huge reel-to-reel tape deck. The Pandatone studio is the wrong environment for a clinical claustrophobic, but full of creative possibilities if you're the right type. It feels like this environment has been transferred into the songs for Happy Together. Pandatone's fascination with the actual sound of recording is plastered all over the album. Using lots of tape and background noise, he tries to bring out specific tones that are just too far gone to really be there. The influence of Shugo Tokumaru and the Boats is fairly noticeable - though not copied. The sound of NYC is in there too - with some tracks featuring an almost junktronic-type percussion. While the album plays and even after it ends, he is much more interested in talking about the artists who are working on stuff for Music Related than his own music, and I leave with a handful of CDs. Whether he likes comparisons or not, I would recommend Happy Together if you like Psapp, Müm, and Tujiko Noriko.

Piano Magic
Part Monster (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 22ND)
PS, US 7th "proper" album from esoteric Anglo-French, London-based "ghost-rock" group that ranges from brittle folkish introspection to dynamic all-out noise intensity. Produced by Guy Fixsen of Laika (engineer to the likes of My Bloody Valentine, The Pixies, The Breeders, Stereolab). Part-Monster, Piano Magic's 7th "proper" album (excluding compilations) easily lives up to it's title. Though Piano Magic are generally tarred with the brushes of "ambient," "coldwave" or even "ghostrock," Part-Monster has it's fill of all-out, near brutal, dynamic intensity. Indeed, anyone who's witnessed PM live over the past 2 years or so will testify that the shadowy introspection of their records is camouflage for a beast of many teeth. Bringing in Guy Fixsen, of the group, Laika, as producer, clearly marked the band's intention for a rawer, more powerful sound. Fixsen has taken the production and/or engineer chair for such luminaries as The Pixies, Moonshake, The Breeders, Joy Zipper, Stereolab, Lush and most notably for My Bloody Valentine's Loveless. That's not to say that Piano Magic have entirely turned the amps up to 11. Part-Monster gracefully manages to balance this cathartic noise with romantic paeans to their favourite subject - the more cruel, tragic side of their home city, London and most notably tips a hat to perhaps the most graceful of it's outcasts, Joseph Carey Merrick (The Elephant Man). In this, the 10th year of their existence, Piano Magic can look back on a varied and accomplished discography most bands wouldn't manage in a lifetime of trying. Records for 4AD, Darla, Morr Music, Important and many more, mark their way, as well as the soundtrack to Bigas Luna's Son De Mar movie (2001) and performances at some of the biggest festivals in Europe (Benicassim, Primavera, BAM). Though based in London, Piano Magic is a living model of the Entente Cordiale - 3 of it's 5 members are French (6, if you include regular chanteuse, Angele). Even so, since it's conception, in 1996, the group has drunk heavily from the glass of British musical inspiration - most notably, The Smiths, Joy Division, New Order, as well as the selective 80's output of 4AD, Factory and Rough Trade Records. Though they operate somewhat beneath the radar in a fashion-obsessed Britain, Piano Magic have amassed a huge, devout following in Europe and regularly tour the likes of France, Spain, Italy to sold-out halls. Though the group is their main obsession, singer Glen Johnson also maintains a solo project of leftfield electronica under the guise of Textile Ranch (album, Bird Heart In Wool, Very Friendly, 2005). Along with keyboard player, Cedric Pin, his Future Conditional project will release their debut album, We Don't Just Disappear on LTM Recordings this April - a label most notable for the re-issue of many Factory Records' "classic" albums.

Plants
Photosynthesis (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 15TH)
PS, US Plants have evolved well beyond their sparse & mystical roots to sail along a rich & diverse confluence of mind-enhancing streams. Reaching deep within, Plants unfurl Photosynthesis, a haunting foray into gently rippling netherworlds. Aptly named, Photosynthesis illustrates the subtle skill in which Plants extract & blend a variety of sounds to concoct a heady elixir of minimalist psychedelia. A rotating cast of support for the husband & wife core offers a diverse array of instrumentation, including acoustic/electric guitars, cello, singing saw, organ, electric tones & a guest appearance from Jason Buehler (NICE NICE) on banjo & "piano box". Gently swirled together, Plants invoke images of a quiet solstice ritual involving early Popol Vuh, the fusion-folk of C.O.B., and a flower-powered, V.U.-era John Cale

Port Royal
Afraid To Dance (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 17TH)
PS, UK The second album from the band who injected new life into the post-rock scene with their breathtaking debut "Flares" in 2005. For those unfamiliar with their debut, port-royal are anything but just another generic epic instrumental outfit; utilising subtle electronics and almost classical arrangements, they create lengthy, expansive, melancholic compositions that often have movements within the individual tracks, constantly evolving and shifting in tempo. Though "Afraid To Dance" follows the formula that made "Flares" such a success, it also displays sufficient progression to be more than just "Flares pt2"; though the same components are evident, the emphasis has shifted towards the electronic beats and pure rhythm that underpin their sound, bringing them to the forefront while the hypnotic spacerock guitars and synth gently weave melodies beneath. Full press push on what could be the biggest album on the label to date; journalists have been asking for promo copies ever since the release was listed on the Resonant website, so expect a wave of support. First UK tour dates to follow in the summer, with European dates being finalised now.

Proem
A Permanent Solution (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 1ST)
PS, US Richard Bailey and n5MD team up yet again, this time to release his 6th Proem studio album "A Permanent Solution". There is an undeniably classic IDM vibe to "A Permanent Solution", one that has been missing from the genre for some time. Ever present are the moments you
have come to know, feel and respect of Bailey's music. However, Bailey tears the seam on the bag of atmospherics he's been hiding and pours the contents like thick syrup over every track. The Proem beatwork is intact but there is a much heavier emphasis on letting the backdrop propel the songs forward. There are people still superfluously creating this style of electronica but not with as much depth and style as Bailey projects into his music. "A Permanent Solution" is a perfect jump forward while still keeping true to the "Proem sound".

Remate
No Land Recordings (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 15TH)
PS, SPAIN REMATE is a musician trained in classical music since was wearing short trousers and long socks. His first hero was a heroine, a skinny Bielorrusian piano teacher, who taught him how to play piano for hours without hurting his hands and wrists. The second hero was a Southafrican guitar teacher with a curly toupée, who instilled him the significance of the posture if you wish to turn into a good guitarist. After these pre-Olympics he became a singer-songwriter without limits: from folk to blues, from rock to gospel, from country to pop, always with the ambition of the one who knows that you must deserve your own influences, and that having style means much more than quoting other stylists. His distinctive features are, apart from playing piano avoiding pain, and having a good posture and/or a stance of defiance with the guitar... to be a very good singer, sometimes high-pitched ("Ballads Don't Change Things", 2004), and keen (also in person); at the beginning his voices sounded like a drunk Ry Cooder or between J. J. Cale and Neil Young; then (since "On Junk", 2005) a cocktail of Kurt Wagner (Lambchop) and Wagner without Kurt (he would have a voice as cavernous as his operas). Lately his singing has been non dissimilar to Bob Dylan yapping in a small town library. The process, of course, finally turns up to Remate's signing to Acuarela for a brand new ouvre created like a labour of love. "No land Recordings", his new double album with 25 songs, is jam-packed with clouds of latex, giant wings, toxic passion, dinosaurs, enemies, falls, one-eyed singers, pain in vain, kitties and beautiful ladies, love at first sight, howls, fireflies, propeller beanies, TV shows, sports, calls, Superman, glowing colours, bankruptcy, tenderness, mends. Whereabouts are the best songs being born? Where do they grow up like unhappy children? Which are the shops where you can buy propeller beanies?

Rumskib
Self-Titled (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 8TH)
PS, US Darla is proud to release the debut record by Danish nu-gaze group Rumskib. Rumskib is the Odense, Denmark duo of Keith Canisius (Guitarist, Vocalist, Composer, Producer) and Tine Louise Kortermand (Singer). Keith produced the debut record with Jonas Munk (Manual), who programmed the beats, made the electronic sounds, and played synthesizer. Rumskib's debut record begins with a Simple Minds New Gold Dream style intro. A rough & repetitive MBV Loveless style guitar line kicks in. Next an aggressive baggy beat begins to pump making Rumskib sound nearly like Curve. Then a very lovely surprise: A very pretty, Lush style guitar change comes and simultaneously the wall of sound vocal harmonies begin - like Emma, Miki... and Bjork! There's no denying Rumskib are derivative, however, Rumskib has such command of all the genre's key sound elements and their own pop songs are so damn good the band gloriously claim the new shoegaze sound as their own. Rumskib's sound is at once modern and classic, blending a strong love for early 90s shoegazer bands such as Chapterhouse and Lush with the sensibilities of grand Scandinavian 80s pop such as A-Ha and Roxette, all flavored with harsh noise-rock guitars and crunchy micro-programmed beats. Sometimes their sound is up-tempo, almost danceable like The Cardigans meet St. Etienne. At other times their sound is thick, heavy, and romantic recalling The Cocteau Twins or Simple Minds. Rumskib manage to be both surrealist and accessible; complex but straight forward. Vocalist Tine Louise creates harmonies so beautiful one would think they came from some mysterious wonderland (or Victorialand?) and Keith Canisius' lyrical call & response guitar playing is intelligent and evocative. Combine all this with well crafted compositions and Jonas Munk's trademark head-spinning, multi-layered sound sculptures, and you've got a work of undeniable beauty. Track list: 01. Hearts On fire, 02. Springtime, 03. Dreampoppers Tribute, 04. Where Are The Flowers, 05. Ferris Wheel Blackout, 06. Think Eyes Away, 07. You're My Japan, 08. Sneak, 09. Crucial Love Games, 10. Ovation Outsiders, 11. Girl Afraid, 12. Love At First Sight. ""Re-evokes my dancing feet with the fragrance of Liz Fraser insanity there on top.. humm..There' s some serious celebration going on in Scandinavia now." -- SERENA MANEESH ""Springtime" kills, kills again, and then kills some more. Satie, Erik
Cubist Works 1913-1924 (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 8TH)
PS, UK A new CD in our series by visionary French composer Erik Satie (1866-1925), following the success of previous releases Vexations, Socrate, Musique de la Rose + Croix and Dada Works, on which we present selected Satie recordings with explicit links to the unconventional, the mystic and the avant-garde. Section 25
Part-Primitiv (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 15TH)
PS, UK LTM is proud to announce a brand new studio album from cult post-punk group Section 25, who previously recorded four studio albums with the celebrated Factory Records label. Formed by Blackpool brothers Larry and Vin Cassidy in 1978, Section 25 gigged extensively with Joy Division, A Certain Ratio, Durutti Column, New Order and the original Factory stable, completed two North American tours, and recorded keynote albums Always Now (1981) and From The Hip (1984) with Martin Hannett and Bernard Sumner as the respective producers. Their sublime proto-techno single Looking From A Hilltop remains an oft-sampled club classic. Although Section 25 disbanded in 1986, core members Larry (bass/vocals), Vin (drums) and Jenny Cassidy (keyboards/vocals) regrouped in 2001, joined by guitarist Ian Butterworth (ex Tunnelvision) and multi-instrumentalist and engineer Roger Wikeley. Although work on the new album was set back by the untimely death of Jenny Cassidy in November 2004, the group began gigging again in May 2006 and have since visited France, Belgium, Italy, Greece, Dublin, London and Poulton-le-Fylde. Part-Primitiv was produced by the band at West Orange Studio, Preston, in 2007. Stand-out tracks include Can't Let Go, Dream, Carbon and You Never Make Your Mind Up. Skeletons & the Kings of All Cities
Lucas (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 8TH)

Smith, Elliott
New Moon (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 8TH)
PS, US Arguably the most gifted songwriter of his generation, Smith produced a large body of work that includes five solo albums and a collection of songs completed before his death in 2003. This double CD contains twenty-four songs recorded between 1994 and 1997, a prolific time in Elliott's career, when he recorded his self-titled album and "Either/Or". Like his other work, "New Moon" reflects the power of Smith's ability to integrate rich, melodic music with poetic, multi-layered lyrics.

Submerged
Stars Lights The End (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 1ST)
PS, CANADA SUBMERGED teams up with Grammy award winning producer BILL LASWELL, avant-garde Japanese trumpeter TOSHINORI KONDO and drummer GUY LICATA a second time to give us the follow up to last years Method of Defiance "The Only Way To Go Is Down" album and his first solo titled album SUBMERGED "STARS LIGHTS THE END". Once again we find bass arrangements of infinite complexity by Bill Laswell mashing with Kondo's horns while distorted guitars and abrasive synths battle against one another all the while producing a perfect fusion between instrumental and software generated music. "Guy Licata, is a monster, he has got the skills to compete with any software geek in beat mangling, reaching easily two hundred BPMs." - Igloo Magazine. Submerged "Stars Lights The End" keeps Method of Defiance's hard edged drum n bass blasts, experimental dub and jazz elements only this time leans slightly toward a more aggresive sound than "The Only Way to Go Is Down". Stars Lights The End features bruising sound edits and beat contributions from Corrupt Souls, D`nee and Mark Filip. Expect extreme high quality sound again courtesy of Michael Fossenkemper who also mastered Method Of Defiance's "The Only Way To Go is Down".

Swan, Astrid
Poverina (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 22ND)
PS, US Swan's piano-centric pop songs sometimes recall the confessional tones of Laura Nyro, Regina Spektor, and Rufus Wainwright, but comparisons still can't come close to describing her unique vision. With an appearance by Jimi Tenor (techno's first cabaret star), "Poverina" proves there's no limit to where Astrid or her music will go. "She gets the delicate, fluttery most out of the ebonies and ivories while spilling her non-metallic Finnish guts" - Harp.

Textile Ranch
I Believe in Lassies (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 15TH)
PS, SPAIN Once upon a time, computer games didn't rely on graphics to suck you in. The first "Text Adventure" A game which relied on your imagination to unfold it's magic, has formed the inspiration for our favorite release of the year so far. The second album by David Roy and Stephen Scott, I BELIEVE IN LASSIES is homage to lo-fi brilliance in a world gone pro-tools mad. You see, it's about addressing the simple things. IBIL is a record about girls by boys too shy to talk to them in person, and one that communicates in an aching swirl of acoustic and digital lo-fi, the longing of not only meeting that spry-eyed girlie, but actually being able to say hi. What must be a crippling disability for David and Stephen is a blessing for the rest of us, as we get treated to 10 tracks bursting with the self-confidence that can only come from living in hope. Crafted from acoustic guitar, Casio keyboards, circuit bent speak and spell machines, and live drums recorded to a "very, very old 8-track". The songs have a layered aesthetic in the vein of Adem and Tunng. But this is more than an exercise in nerdy bedroom electronica: "I have tried to move away from that" asserts David. "The Golden Portion was very much sequence-based, computer-recorded, programmed beats, tons more keyboards and hardly any guitar. I felt it had been done to death already, so i wanted to make a grander sounding folk record with loads more guitars and more vocals too" Songs are as important to the boys as textures, and the melodies come at you with such self-assurance that you don't know whether to meet them with a bear hug or duck for cover. With collaboration comes perspective, and Stephen's vocals liberate David's soundscapes, adding a psychedelic edge in the vein of My Bloody Valentine, but with a dose of skewed realism.

Trembling Blue Stars
The Last Holy Writer (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 1ST)
PS, SPAIN "The last holy writer" is the sixth album by TREMBLING BLUE STARS, thesecond one released worldwide through Elefant Records. This album is dark, intimate, melancholic and cloudy, but every now and then there are rays ofsunshine coming through the clouds, riding sunny melodic breezes. SLOWDIVE and THE CURE are still good references for this music, but they are toolimited to describe the unique sound of TREMBLING BLUE STARS, a sound that'sready to mingle melodic, sensitive pop with many electronic sounds, distortions, noises, static and even field recordings that envelope thesongs with a nostalgic halo. On one song, percussion is provided byfootsteps on dry branches and shingles, and on another song a recording of dawn on the Romney Marsh provides the backdrop. THE RAIN PARADE, MAZZY STAR and GALAXIE 500 come up here and there: on this album there's folk, andthere's electronica and 80's influences and avant country and, of course, there's the best pop music you can hear. There's no doubt you will fall inlove again with Bobby Wratten's music. They have hit the target again. "The last holy writer" is the proof that one of the most influential bands in indie-pop is at its most creative, daring and inspired, now more concentrated than ever in writing the most beautiful popsongs you've heard for ages. Highly recommended!

Van Doesburg, Petro
Repertoire De Stijl: Bauhaus: Dada (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 15TH)
PS, UK LTM are pleased to present an overview of the avant-garde piano repertoire of Pétro van Doesburg, performed at various De Stijl, Dada and Bauhaus soirees in Europe between 1920 and 1925. Born in Holland in 1899, Pétro met De Stijl movement founder and propagandist Theo van Doesburg in 1920. Over the next decade the couple lived in Wiemar (where Theo was associated with the influential Bauhaus art and architecture school) and then Paris. A Conservatory-trained pianist, Pétro accompanied her husband's lectures with selected modernist piano pieces, and also performed at Salon Dada soirees organised by Theo with Kurt Schwitters in Holland and Germany in 1922/23. Following Theo's death in 1931, Pétro established the De Stijl archive and was a buyer for Peggy Guggenheim. She died in 1975. The material on this 76 minute CD includes pieces by Erik Satie, Josef Matthias Hauer, Arnold Schoenberg, Francis Poulenc, Arthur Honegger and Jacob van Domselaer, whose austere Proeven van Stijlkunst (1913-17) offers an application of Piet Mondrian's neo-plastic principles to musical composition. The music is performed by noted
Dutch pianist Peter Beijersbergen van Henegouwen. The CD also features a deluxe booklet featuring archive images and detailed historical notes by James Hayward.

Thank You For Being You (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 17TH)
PS, US A compilation of scottish independent labels - 1980 - present. Electric Honey, the label set up by students at Glasgow's Stow College, are set to release a unique compilation of tracks from Scottish Independent labels from 1980 to present on the 12th of May 2007. Featuring twelve tracks from the likes of Belle & Sebastian, Teenage Fanclub, Josef K, Fire Engines, Future Pilot AKA and relative new comers How To Swim, this compilation hopes to highlight the wealth and diversity of Scottish independent labels that have supported and nurtured the Scottish underground scene from 1980 to 2000 approx. From the first flourishes of post-punk activity from the legendary Postcard and Fast Product/Pop Aural labels, through to the present with labels as diverse as Chemikal Underground and Geographic, Scottish independents continue to receive international recognition. Belle & Sebastian came to public prominence with the release of their debut album, 'Tigermilk', released in 1996 on Stow College's Electric Honey label. 1,000 of the album were cut, with the vinyl - only release selling out before being deleted. This led to a bidding frenzy on internet auction-sites, with one American fan paying $1,200 Dollars for a copy On the back of the Electric Honey release, Belle & Sebastian were signed to Jeepster Records and their 2nd album, "If You're Feeling Sinister", cemented their critical reputation and proved to be a commercial success. Further albums on Jeepster resulted in the group building a massive international following, before singing to legendary London independent label Rough Trade for their 2003 album, "Dear Catastrophe Waitress".Students on Glasgow's Stow College HND Music Business course are involved with three labels; Electric Honey, Gdansk, and Root8. Through their involvement, students gain invaluable knowledge and experience of the machinations of the music industry, covering all aspects from legal, artistic, to promotion. Tutored by Douglas MacIntyre, head of the Creeping Bent Organisation, itself an influential independent label over the last ten years, the course covers many grounds...culturally, musically and socially and thus Electric Honey is probably (almost certainly) the most successful College label in the world. Tracklisting: 1. Belle & Sebastian - 'She's Losing It' (Electric Honey) 2. Teenage Fanclub - 'Fallen Leaves' (Pema) 3. Josef K - 'It's Kinda Funny' (Postcard circa 1980) 4. King Creosote - 'King Bubbles In Sand' (Fence) 5. The Delgados - 'Monica Webster' (Chemikal Underground) 6. Fire Engines - 'Get Up & Use Me' (Codex / Fast / Pop Aural) 7. The Pastels - 'The Viaduct' (Domino/Geographic) 8. Frank Blake - 'Any Way The Wind Blows' (Shoeshine) 9. The Nectarine No9 - 'Saint Jack ' (Postcard circa 1995) 10. Future Pilot AKA - 'Eyes of Love' (Creeping Bent) 11. Bill Wells Trio - 'Singleton' (Geographic) 12. How To Swim - 'Logical Man' (Electric Honey)

S-T (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 22ND)
PS, US It's refreshing to find a band that's not terribly worried about being the next big thing. Over the five years of their existence, Voxtrot have released fewer than twenty songs spread across two hard to find 7-inch singles and three EPs. And it's on the strength of those literate, memorable songs, plus a series of increasingly tight and vibrant live shows, that they've built a devoted and passionate following. The twelve songs on this record are a powerful statement of intent: louder, harder, a little more complex, a more confident Voxtrot. XXL (Xiu Xiu Larson)
Spicchiology? (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 22ND)
PS, US Spicchiology? is the sophomore release from the supergroup XXL comprising all members of Xiu Xiu and Larsen. Recorded in late 2006 in Torino Italy Spicchiologi? is the result of a profoundly creative friendship translated into music and spanning the globe."It is hard as an American, if of a somewhat borish, middle class suburban, albeit freakishly desperate artistically inclined background, to really present without being excessively prosaic as to what it could mean to have, for the second time in ones life, two weeks to spend in a sublime foreign city with the only premeditated task at hand being, with good friends, to make a record about sadness and violence and history. Well prosacism cannot be denied, it was, by God, in Italy. Blood Oranges, the wrapper of being spicchio. The concerted study of being Spicchiology?. As I type this I am watching an Italian film about terrosism in Italy in the late 1970s. I did not know anything about this time until the men of Larsen told Caralee and me about it over wine. Now in America it is all that Washington says: terror. But they already knew and were ready to push past and through it again, holding our historyless hands. Everyday before recording we walked by a tower that in the1300's the town executioner occupied and the bones of the people he was paid with taxes to behead were buried around it. The Oakland police department? Please! Warehouse shows? Barf! The souls of unbaptised infants live in the black painted and burned cathedral cum gallery where one of the three XXL guitarist curates art music shows. Not to say that Europe knows all but it has hurt itself for 2000 years and in America we have only just begun. If the last XXL record was romanitc and fun, this one is broken and superior. Look at yourself! Your matress is embarassed that you give it a job. The farfisa is a real one, not a sampler. HA HA HA HA HA HA HA !!!" -James Stewart of XXL (and Xiu Xiu) February 2007.
