Originally released on two VHS's, it's a contemporaneous document of the first incarnation of this legendary band who stole the show with their performance at Coachella 2005. When they disbanded in 1983, members Peter Murphy, Daniel Ash, David J, and Kevin Haskins found success both as solo artists and as members of Love And Rockets, Tones On Tail, and Dalis Car. However, there's a certain night music that only happens when the four become Bauhaus.

Conrad, Tony w/ Faust
Outside the Dream Syndicate ALIVE
PS, US Minimalist pioneer Tony Conrad and notorious krautrock progenitors Faust met just three times: in the studio to record the ground-breaking "Outside the Dream Syndicate" in 1972, and twice on the concert stage in the mid-1990s. This recording documents their third and final encounter, at Queen Elizabeth Hall, London, February 18, 1995. The difference between the original session and this live event is astonishing. While Conrad's aggressive string sound was tamed in the studio by producer Uwe Nettlebeck (Conrad has complained that the mix made him "sound like a hippy"), here it is full of menace and ferocity, and in tandem attack with the equally belligerent violin of Jim O'Rourke, it conjures a raging wall of sound. When the Faust rhythm section finally kicks in, no one is in the mood for restraint, and the whole thing bolts on a merciless, scorched-earth gallop. Bassist Jean-Herve Peron plays with such fury that he snaps a string (no easy feat on a bass guitar), shreds the flesh on his fingers, and is soon covered in blood; meanwhile drummer Werner "Zappi" Diermaier pounds away, standing, in his inimitable, robotic style. After a relentless 40-minute onslaught, Peron signals the set's abrupt conclusion by smashing a brick with a sledgehammer, while Diermaier destroys his drum kit a la Keith Moon. At this point the elegant atmosphere of Queen Elizabeth Hall thoroughly disintegrates, and the antagonized crowd nearly riots. Hecklers and supporters continue to shout each other down -- until they're drowned out by a rollicking encore. The booklet contains brief interviews with Conrad and Peron, and a first-person account from Gang of Four's Andy Gill, who sounds justifiably intimidated by the entire performance. The packaging includes alternate photos from the 1965 photo-booth strip that graced the original studio release, plus stickers and a silver foil stamp.

Dirty Projectors
Graceful Fallen Mango
PS, US A gorgeous basement epic, recorded by DAVE LONGSTRETH on a 4-track & computer on his own, save for a few guest appearances by members of WOLF COLONEL & DEAR NORA. With vocals that seem to have been genetically engineered from strands of Paul McCartney, Ian McCulloch, Freddie Mercury, etc., his songs are full of mournful & soaring, if sometimes off-kilter, melodies that far exceed the album's modest origins. An endearing collection of lovely, poetic pieces mostly drawn together by his remarkable vocals.

Fiery Furnaces/Ted Leo
Split
PS, US A very limited US 7" to promote a covers album celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Beatles' "Rubber Soul" LP. Features 2 kooky cuts, both of which deconstruct the original and then plaster it back up together in the style of the remodeller. "Norwegian Wood" as interpreted by the FIERY FURNACES places the song in the midst of the most disturbing fairground ride; organ effects creating a wibbly wobbly journey that leaves the listener woozy but intrigued. Even better though is TED LEO s reverb heavy romp through "I m Looking Through You"; a toe tapping psych cure for all ailments from the Pharmacist of powerpop.

Harley, Bill
Blah Blah Blah: Stories About Clams, Swamp Monsters and Pirates
PS, US Here it is! The one that fans have been asking for! A recording that contains the hilarious and completely captivating tale of Dirty Joe, a pirate who steals socks and his equally odious sister, Stinky Annie, who steals underwear. Also on this record is an audio version of "Joey, Chloe, and the Swamp Monsters" (previously only available on the video Who Made This Mess), "The King of the Clams" and the song story, "Bow Wow Wow."

Hicks, Bill
Sane Man
PS, US This is the first filmed document of a complete performance; shot in '89- before he recorded his first comedy album. A newly sober HICKS paces the stage like a wild animal, riffing effortlessly on a variety of his favorite topics. It's unpredictable, beyond edgy & so focused you have to see it to believe it. Extras include outtakes, biography, HICKS as Elvis, & more.

High Heeled Honeys, The
S/T EP
PS, US Primal guitars, outlandish vocals, and garage rockin' talkin' and walkin'. Almost too much fun The HHH are a Swedish duo sporting stage names like Original and Special, and beating the proverbial crap out of guitars and a drumset. Why does this recall so many young upstart Minneapolis bands from the 80s and early 90s? Think The Replacements and their melodic-punk brethren, classic pop songs drench in guitar raunch and an echoing drum bash, garage-punk sweetly leavened with strings and piano and such but it's the gender-curious caveman in all of us that will appreciate this garage-pop erotica the mostest.

Hope Blister
Underarms & Sideways
PS, US Originally released in 1999 as part of 4AD's mail order/internet-only series, "Underarms" is an engaging and largely instrumental collection of outtakes from the band's "...smile's ok" sessions. Though the debut album consisted solely of covers, five of the seven tracks here are originals, and the disc provides a darkly ambient companion to "...smile's ok". The gorgeous, minimalist drone to both parts of "Sweet Medicine" provides a cyclical lean, and a couple tracks are downright sinister, on par with any of Main's harrowing soundscapes. This re-issue has new packaging and is a double disc containing the original album along with a second disc, all remixed by German electronic artist Markus Guentner (Kompakt Records). "Gauzy, ethereal music" - City Paper. "Soothing sounds for souls who think navy blue and forest green are bright colors, and for fans of vintage 4AD fare" - The Boston Phoenix.

Joyner, Simon
Room Temperature
PS, US Room Temperature was recorded in the winter of 1992 in a small room above a carpet store in Omaha, Nebraska, with two microphones and a cassette four-track recorder. Despite being his second full-length release, this was Simon Joyner's first fully realized album, the one that first caught the interest of British DJ John Peel, who played it so often he single-handedly created a European audience for the Midwest singer-songwriter. Populated with sometimes harrowing and desperate stories of the complex workings of the human heart (in conflict with itself), the stark record features Joyner solo on all tracks. This marks the influential album's first appearance on vinyl.

PS, US There's still life out there!!! Just when you may have given up hope, here comes... Lemonsmile. This Rock/Pop surprise from Chicago offers a unique blend of originality and influence. Lemonsmile hits the ground running with their debut CD, "Bipolar Park". Recorded in Chicago with producer Scott Carson, Lemomsmile's "Bipolar Park" CD incorporates the pop edge of Matthew Sweet (and the Beatles), the sensibility of Elliot Smith, and the occasional hint of punk (Buddy Holly meets Foo Fighters). The results make this a great CD from start to finish. Rick Guistolise is sure to grab attention with this release.

Mt. Eerie
11 Old Songs by Mt. Eerie
PS, US 11 old songs written during a "winter wake up" cabin-time in arctic Norway, with photos, recorded in the style of "10 New Songs" by Leonard Cohen or "Arise Therefore" by Will Oldham, that is, sung deep and richly along to synthetic background music. This sounds nothing like any other Mt. Eerie or Microphones music. People will probably call this the "Casio album". It sounds beautiful in whole new ways.

Phelan, Patrick
Cost
PS, US Patrick Phelan's third full-length recording is called Cost. To Phelan, it is an understatement. For him, every opportunity explored is another opportunity forgone. More so than on previous Phelan records, Cost places an emphasis on the guttural. His voice and words take center stage. He is much less guarded on Cost than on previous records. There is no lack of desperation in these new songs, yet a hopeful tone is maintained throughout. Balance is the key. Emotion is the lock. And simplicity is the door. Like a finely-tuned architect, Phelan places all of his songs in their proper space, not letting them get crowded with unnecessary words or sounds. He also steers Cost from tipping too far in the "minimalist" direction, thanks in part to a bevy of guitar solos and to the abundance of true rock moments that occur throughout the record.

Talking About Memories
PS, US For this album HANNO LEICHTMANN met with longtime collaborators & admired musicians CHRISTOF KURZMANN & MARTIN SIEWERT, whose contributions on this release form the central identity of this excellent album. Long forgotten melodies are realized through samples of neglected, dusty classical records woven into layers of guitar strums with Kurzmann's flamboyantly odd vocal delivery. Add to this piquant blend a pop song he wrote together with Tarwater/To Rococo Rot's RONALD LIPPOK ("Return of She") & Leichtmann's intended theme is realized perfectly.

Tender Forever
The Soft and the Hardcore
PS, US "I don't believe that love can save the world, but I think tenderness might have a chance." So says Melanie Valera, the throbbing heart and head philosopher of the solo band, Tender Forever. A native of Southern France, Valera recently landed in Olympia, Washington, with an impact that nobody can ignore, ready to stay for a while and teach us all a thing or two about the strength in being sensitive. Though a native in the language of love, Valera skips the French and goes straight for the English jugular on this debut full length, with twelve songs that spell out the ups and downs of FEELING IT, in capitalized and crushing detail.

Casiotone For The Painfully Alone
Young Shields (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE JANUARY 25TH)
PS, US Owen Ashworth finally jettisons the confines of lo-fi minimalism for an expanded production palette. A bite sized intro to his new CFTPA made in conjunction w/ Jherek Bischoff (DEAD SCIENCE, DEGENERATE ART ENSEMBLE. A driving, menacing anthem with its cold synths, frantic drum machines, & pulsing bass undermined by Ashworth's signature monotone, it is a brilliantly bitter narrative that stands as the most confident & sinister track in the Casiotone songbook. The single's b-side is an electro reworking of of Prince's "When You Were Mine," which features guest vocals from XIU XIU's Caralee McElroy, & somehow manages to sound giddy and gloomy at the same time. CD also features 2 beautifully retrofitted CFTPA classics from their sold out Alphabet Series 7": "Roberta C" appears here as a huge, swooning epic with a full string arrangement and a ridiculous, floor-killing beat, and "The Subway Home" has been reworked as a darkly beautiful dirge which pairs Ashworth's raspy baritone with Bischoff's skeletal contrabass arrangement.

This is the follow-up. From mesmeric to buzzy Byrdsy rush to Kinksy oomph to countrified lament, it's their wildest, deepest, most surprising album so far. Cluster
Cluster '71 (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE JANUARY 24TH)
PS, US On the outer edge of German space rock, Cluster '71 stands as a testament to minimalist "cosmische" music. The 3 untitled tracks composed and performed by Moebius and Roedelius are exploratory, ever-changing pieces with focuses on guitar distortion and synthesizer wails, though each goes far beyond. This album deserves the many accolades it's been given, and holds up as an early landmark in the history of beatless ambience.

No (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE DECEMBER 15TH)
PS, US Extremely limited edition. Considered one of the premier sound artists in the US. An installation document of two reel-to-reel machines running two separate loops through custom-made "courses". The recording captures not only the sounds on the two loops as they furtively strive to repair an inherent disconnect, but also the sounds of the reel-to-reel machines clattering & humming along. When the loops get close to unifying a "message", it is one of negation. Hopeful yet desperate. One-sided 7" might be the most succinct rendering of this concept.

Delta 5
Singles And Sessions - 1979-81 (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE JANUARY 24TH)
PS, US Part of the Leeds/UK art/music scene in the late '70s that launched The Gang Of Four and The Mekons, Delta 5 was signed to Rough Trade after only a few months in existence, and released their first single, "Mind Your Own Business/Now That You've Gone" in 1979. BBC host and producer John Peel requested the band do a "Sessions" gig for him and they were officially on their way. Relentless touring with The Gang Of Four, Echo And The Bunnymen, B52s, The Specials, The Teardrop Explodes, and U2 put the group on the map. They continued until various members departed in 1981, when they recorded one last single and broke up in 1982. PS, US This Diabolus album, recorded in London (but released in Germany) in 1971, is one of those mega-rarities about which very little else is known. What is known however, is that this well-crafted blend of prog rock with psychedelic inflections, clever guitar and flute solos and sprinklings of jazz rock (putting to mind Jethro Tull more than just a little bit), make for a very interesting and enjoyable listen. And despite its having been produced by a small label, the production is top notch. It will undoubtedly appeal to aficionados of bands like Audience, Ton Ton Macoute and Jethro Tull. PS, US The rope-strong, luminous follow-up to their critically acclaimed 2004 debut, "Me First". Recorded while singer/songwriter Blake Sennett was on tour with his other band, Rilo Kiley, the album is propelled by the kind of unsettled, exploratory impetus that's only native to the American open road. While portions of the album were recorded in studios, Sennett recorded and produced the majority of his creations in environments he was passing through. The dichotomy between feeling completely at home and at the same time homeless on the road fuels Sennett's biting, reflective lyricism and grand, sweeping compositions.

Everlovely Lightningheart
Cusp (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE JANUARY 24TH)
PS, US This collaborative is an entity capable of producing, perverting, destroying, distributing, stealing, and selling a vast and sprawling array of existing as well as unheard of forms of cultural products and concepts. Their performances range from serene to chaotic. Including anywhere from two to a dozen performers, each is a truly unique experience. They've played shows with Isis, These Arms Are Snakes, Pelican, Bastard Noise, and more. As well as playing the conventional club circuit, they've also been included as part of several museum and art collective events. They document every performance with audio, video, and photography, creating an extensive library of work. "Cusp" is beautiful in its chaos and simplicity. It is a humbling and sad composition, the sort of sadness that tunes the listener into the physical state of humanity.

Sunbomber (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE JANUARY 24TH)

PS, US Film School is a band with impressively eclectic influences (Pink Floyd, The Who, obscure electronica, metal, drone, alternative '80s), a grandiose collective musical history, and a healthy bout of critical acclaim. "Wonderfully off-kilter pop songs" - NME. "As their name implies, Film School creates sounds with a cinematic eye...This four-song EP is a compact 23-minute trip that proves this San Francisco quintet have serious dibs on becoming leaders if Haight-Ashbury is ever to rise again" - CMJ. Rave live reviews in the NME and The Fly followed their UK visit in September 2004, supporting TV On The Radio. Hollingsworth, Taylor
Tragic City (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE JANUARY 24TH)
PS, US "Taylor Hollingsworth and his band are sloppy and wild in the mode of The Stooges or The MC5 (or The Rolling Stones at their worst), which are likely models, yet this band's overall tone often recalls bands such as The Only Ones or The Heartbreakers. If they played fast and hard instead of loose and slinky, they could even be The Saints. A lot of the sloppiness is salvaged, or accented, by white-hot guitar runs that take the sound into Johnny Thunders territory, by way of Billy Gibbons. Vocals, for the most part, remain in the more disturbing/intriguing range of Peter Perret and Nikki Sudden, so you can see why it is difficult to accept this band's approach as just a happy accident" - Black & White.

Make Up
Untouchable Sound (Live) (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE FEBUARY 21ST)
PS, US Five years since they called it a day, their legend had remained oddly un-reexamined. This does just that, by adding a new chapter. The time: their final days. The place: DC. With newly added 5th member ALEX MINOFF in tow, the band ran down a number of their recent classics, dressed up fresh psychedelic soul trappings. As live as it gets, this might be the un-lost classic recording they have never made.

Misunderstood
Broken Road (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE DECEMBER 22ND)
PS, US The Misunderstood are responsible fortwo of the best and most influential singles of the great US 1967 psychedelic season, "I Can Take You To The Sun" and "Children Of The Sun," and hold a steady place as a cult group among acid rockers. In 1981 three original members, coming from different roads, decided to reform the band and recorded a 6 track demo of revisited versions of some of their best work, adding raga and hard rock influences as a newer background. Broken Road features that demo plus a few extra outtakes and rarities that open a new chapter in the unfinished story of this obscure group. 180 gram

National Trust, The
Kings And Queens (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE JANUARY 24TH)
PS, US Their second full-length is a freaky conflation of dance music, like a 31-flavor ice cream social on a hot summer's day where bongos and subs keep time for a gaggle of face-painters, genies, and roller-queens, but it's more about lifestyle than any generic allegiance or retro revivalism. The band calls it "body music". "Kings And Queens" makes nods to disco, house, and pop, as well as what the band members heard around them on the streets, in parks, and in clubs. Equally present are Chicago-style horns, R&B falsetto, Latino percussion, and bass lines with more soul than a gospel choir. Produced by Abel Garabaldi, engineer for R. Kelly, Fat Joe, Ciara, and Britney Spears.

Some Girls
Heaven's Pregnant Teens (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE JANUARY 24TH)
PS, US Some Girls is a five-person assault out of the sleepy Navy town of San Diego, comprised of the creme de la crass of musicians from that city's famed
hardcore/punk underground. Fronted by Give Up The Ghost and American Nightmare's Wes Eisold, the band features a who's who of hardcore players from The Locust, Plot To Blow Up The Eiffel Tower, Unbroken, Over My Dead Body, Swing Kids, and Crimson Curse. This is their first full-length; an unrelenting musical psychosis, adding new dimensions of brutality to Some Girls' now-trademark thrash attack. Fast, heavy, menacing & stalking like men of cloth on young children. An oddity on this slab is a 9 min. track feat. Test Icicles
For Screening Purposes Only (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE JANUARY 24TH)
PS, US Test Icicles sound like everything, all at once. The three band members have divergent backgrounds in hardcore, metal, hardcore metal, and hip-hop. They listen to all kinds of music and when they're done, throw it all in the pot. No compromises, just a swampy mass of influences frothing and bubbling until it sounds nothing like its composite parts. "Part ear-bleed punk-funk, part old skool rap. This emaciated London trio are stark, barking brilliant" - NME. "...brilliant record, putting every conceivable influence through a punk rock blender and making a gloriously messy riot" - The Sun.

Votolato, Rocky
Makers (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE JANUARY 24TH)
PS, US Soundtracked by the songs of Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash, Rocky had an unconventional upbringing on a horse ranch in Texas before his mother moved the family to Seattle. There he spent his high school years discovering the underground punk/indie scene. Inspired by bands like Fugazi, he and his brother Cody (founding member of hardcore/art combo The Blood Brothers) formed a punk band called Waxwing. Over the course of three increasingly accomplished solo albums, Rocky has matured into a truly phenomenal talent. "Makers" is an amazing album of songs that seem to have been scratched into a boxcar wall by a worn out and lonesome ghost. "Votolato has stones like Bruce Springsteen and hangover wisdom like Paul Westerberg" - Alternative Press.

We Are The Fury
Infinite Jest (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE JANUARY 24TH)
PS, US If early 70's glam and late 70's post punk had a love child in 2005, We Are The Fury would be it. However, they're not your average lo-fi regurgitation. With influences ranging from Bowie and T-Rex to Talking Heads and Television, We Are The Fury reveal a truly unique sound and style. "We Are The Fury cause an electric rage of keyboard, guitar, drums, and bass that creates an almost manic excitement that is rarely matched by any other band" - Skratch Magazine. For fans of Head Automatica, Hot Hot Heat, Ima Robot, and My Chemical Romance. Produced by Tim Patalan (Lovedrug, Sponge, The Fags).
