A Sunny Day In Glasgow
Scribble Mural Comic Journal
PS, US Using mandolins, banjos, noise, samplers, lots of cuttin' n
pastin', and all of the normal band instruments, Philadelphia's A
Sunny Day in Glasgow adds lush female vocals and dance-y rhythms to
make dreamy pop music. Distorted guitars alongside Robin and Lauren's
vocals glisten for thirteen storied tracks on "Scribble Mural
Comic Journal." The album succeeds in marrying Cocteau Twins'
otherwordliness, JAMC white noise, the best aspects of early Aphex
Twin, and the jangle of "Strawberry Wine" era MBV to create
pop music that somehow makes sense despite making no sense. (4 stars)
Like Grizzly Bear, ASDIG's got a steep pop-to-noise curve, so their
most gorgeous melodies become thick and swampy before you've noticed
the tide has come in. Even the brightest colors look black if you
smear them all together." - Pitchfork " (9 out of 10) Captivating.
Stunning. A Sunny Day in Glasgow has single-handedly returned the
shoegazer genre to its former glory. One of the best releases of 2006!"

Felicidades
PS, SPAIN The songs are stretched about as if tensed by strings manipulated
by struggling automatons whom are unpredictable, deconstructing the
structure until they are impregnated with a personality which is deliberately
imperfect as an unfinished sketch, as an analgesic dissolving within
an organism, taking effect slowly, and opting to use the label of
autistic folk, due to his rejection to that which has been stipulated,
and his almost harmful sensibility.

Afflicted Man
Complete Recordings
PS, US Too freaked out for punks and too punked out for freaks, STEVE
HALL stalked the nascent British Punk/DIY scene under the guise of
AFFLICTED (later AFFLICTED MAN) throughout the early '80s to the interest
of almost no one. Hiding in plain sight, Hall unleashed a string of
7-inches and LPs that evoked a singular and unique take on the punk
sneer made fashionable by the Sex Pistols and their minion. Primitively
blending elements of psychedelia and dub over his feral, chainsaw
approach, Afflicted Man unleashed a miasma of tripped out, fuzzy aggro
thrashers that would eventually climax into a masterpiece of pedal
stomping carnage-the unimpeachable Get Stoned Ezy LP-the likes of
which are only now being fully digested. Easily one of the UK's strangest
and ignored DIY punk bands. This collection includes the entire output;
all three mega rare 7-inches plus the hard to find LPs The Afflicted
Man's Musical Bag, I'm Off Me 'Head, and the aforementioned Get Stoned
Ezy. Complete Recordings is the type of release to make even the most
knowledgeable of humbugs sit up and take notice. Essential in every
way.

PS, US From the co-founder of GUS-GUS is a collection of songs he
has pain stakingly crafted, composed & orchestrated over the past
couple of years. It reunites him with Bix (who has remixed Madonna,
Beck & Sigur Ros). The result is a collection of blissful, mini-symphonies
w/ an infectious pop edge. Electronic hisses, fizzes, & squelching
bass lines, they've created a rich tapestry of orchestration, eerie
bleeps & rousing soulful vocals.

Air Formation
Daylight Storms
PS, UK After last years astounding 57 Octaves Below EP, Brighton's
Air Formation are back with their third album. Recorded over the Summer
with producer Pat Collier, mastered by Shimmydisc/Bongwater maestro
Kramer Daylight Storms is their most accomplished work to date. Drawing
from the likes of eighties shoegazers My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive,
as well as lesser known noise-dreamers like the fabulously mysterious
Flying Saucer Attack, Air Formation sit comfortably alongside the
current crop, Sigur Ros, Long-View, Mew et al while at the same time
following a path of their very own making. Think Mogwai, Explosions
In The Sky, the sound of jet engines. Air Formation can go from breathy
escapism to futuristic terrorcaust in a matter of minutes whilst still
encapsulating the listener. Live shows are rare but stunning, recent
supports have included Mark Gardner, Ulrich Schnauss and Rachel Goswell.
The band will be back to delight in the Spring.

Free Your Mind
PS, US "The 700 West Sessions" Based in Indianapolis in
the early 70s, the group released only 2 obscure 45s in their recording
career. They had a poltical edge similar to L.A. Carnival & the
hardest brass section since The Kashmere Stage Band. While their biting,
difficult-to-categorize prog funk/soul/rock could potentially reach
far beyond Indianapolis's bounds, the band never found a label to
take them to the next level. Obviously influenced by, but by no means
simply imitators of, the sound of early Parliament & Funkadelic
arguably the most unique funk to originate from Naptown, & some
of the best music of its kind.

Analogue Minefield
A Fine Adjustment Of Time
PS, UK Blending elements of trip-hop, reggae, drum & bass and
ambient, Dublin-based Analogue Mindfield's music was described by
Cheshire Cat of Leftfield as "a heavyweight mix of reggae, old
school dub with a vibrant brass-driven trip - they skank like a mouthful
of liquorice allsorts". Analogue Mindfield are Snapper J, Gizzy
D, Lariman, Yolazy and Kitty B. Their Mission Statement is simple
"Create auditory soundscapes of challenging yet accessible music,
whilst retaining an inspired socially conscious theme to our tunes."
- Gizzy D. The band have worked on a number of collaborations for
these recordings including: Tim Bran Subsonar, Dreadzone, Transmission]
Dr Das [Asian Dub Foundation], Eric Rico [producer/remixer Jurassic
5, Pharcyde, Tupac Shakur Tribute album], Belka & Strelka [The
Orb, The Transit Kings] Electric Forgiveness [Jon Dawson - Third of
Never, John 'Rabbit' Bundrick - the Who, Bob Marley]. Snapper J and
Gizzy D met while playing with Irish urban guerrillas The Subtonics.
Snapper J began his musical career fronting one of Ireland's most
popular reggae bands Keltic Posse, gigging with reggae legends Derrick
Morgan and Laurel Aiken as their support band, whilst in their own
right headlining at The Montreaux Jazz festival. Gizzy D, founding
member and resident producer of Loop Studios in Dublin has worked
with Primal Scream, The Thrills, Shane McGowan, Thin Lizzy, Relish,
Andy Rourke [The Smiths], The Frames, Jerry Fish, Blood or WhiskeyŠ
and more. He is also a director of www.cpu.ie, Ireland's biggest online
music resource. Nigerian-born Lariman originally shot to fame in Turkey
where he was the leader in the vibrant reggae scene that swept the
country in the 90's. Moving from there to Ireland he became the resident
MC for the legendary Firehouse Skank Soundsystem performing alongside
Brother Culture [Trojan Soundsystem] and supporting reggae superstars
Lee Scratch Perry and The Skatalites. Kitty B's reputation as one
of Dublin's most respected session vocalists, brought her to the attention
of Snapper J and Gizzy D, who recruited her for the current album.
Since then she has worked with Belka & Strelka and is due to record
with labelmates Transit Kings [Alex Paterson, Dom Beken, Guy Pratt]
in the near future.Yolazy, musician/producer/remixer first began working
with Analogue Mindfield when he added some drum tracks and mastered
their first album. He has worked with Colm O'coisoig [My Bloody Valentine],
Leroy [The Prodigy], Nina Hynes, Produkt, The Pale, Stano, and has
remixed and mastered for a host of others.

Arc Lab
No Spectre
PS, US Arc Lab's sophomore release "No Spectre" finds the
n5MD imprint returning to its roots. Medard Fischer (a.k.a Arc Lab)
uses almost 99.9% the digital realm to create his sonic tapestries.
Those familiar with Fischer's music will hear unparalleled growth
in his production and songwriting since 2005's "the nineteen
floors" (MMBP). Those unfamiliar will take comfort in his musical
expressions. "No Spectre" features cascading rhythms reminiscent
of some of Telefon Tel Aviv's beat-work, the melodious cadence of
early Arovane and some of the warm yet slightly sinister elements
of label-mate Proem. It highlights a delicate balance of tension and
emotion, harnessing errant melodies, fractured percussion and granular
synthesis experiments to make that all-important musical connection
with the listener. Human moments made by machines? A human heart succumbing
to the synthetic? Or maybe just an artist utilizing some old spectres
to make something all his own... tracklisting: I`m All Vectors, Versions,
Natch, So Much For No Surprises, The Several Song Dead Days, Miss
Wet T-Shirt Vancouver 2006, Plays Tim Arndt, Spectres, The Past!,

PS, US Brooklyn's (by way of Ann Arbor) AWESOME COLOR's debut full-length
is a mother of a scorched groover. Just check out the track "Free
Man," it says it all. Guitarist DEREK STANTON, drummer ALLISON
BUSCH, and bassist MICHAEL TROUTMAN have been blowing minds with heavy,
cosmic guitars and a rhythm section like a freight train. When they
play, they're often joined by brothers and sisters grabbing instruments
and getting loud: barefoot guitar solos, sax in the aisles and wolf
dancing all around. Produced by THURSTON MOORE, ANDREW KESIN and the
band. Pressed on red vinyl and packaged in gatefold sleeves. CD released

Bark Haze, The
Unititled
PS, US This limited edition lp was pressed in an edition of 500 with
letterpressed covers done by Manifesto. These are completely different
recordings than the Bark Haze compact disc also on Important Records.
The Bark Haze is primarily a guitar duo of GOWN (nom de plume of one
Andrew Macgregor) and Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth etfuckingcetera).
Auxiliary members have been know to include Pete Nolan (Magik Markers,
Virgin Eye Blood Brothers, Cops et al). Their name came from a mis-hearing
of the radical early 70s R+B group the Bar-Kays and from that moment
the concept of mis-hearing and allegiance to presenting the mis-hearing
as some open-ended musical course became The Bark Haze's identity.
So far all concerts have taken place in Western Massachusetts and
once in the confines of Cambridge, MA's Twisted Village record emporium.
They anxiously await their debut gig in the UK at the Nightmare Before
Christmas event curated by Moore. As the heroic and potentially bonkers
Carpenters refrained We've Only Just Begun. Damn straight.

him, Vince began sharing the early BC material over the internet &
the collaborative process began. The core nucleus of the group became
Vince, Brooks Tipton (UNWED SAILOR), Adam Putnam, Matthew Putnam (ex-LOVEDRUG),
Chase Pagan (MILITIA GROUP label) & Kyle Smith. What began as
a fun tape swap among friends to escape from the mundane quickly became
a true band of seven members, all bringing their own contribution

Bikeride
The Kiss (ON SALE)
PS, US Praised by Uncut, MOJO, Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly,
CMJ, the L.A. Times, and many other publications, Bikeride pedals
along with their fifth long player, The Kiss - their first in over
four years.
The
Kiss takes off where 2002's Morning Macumba last left us, still showcasing
Bikeride's knack for adventure and exotica. Just as many of the songs
on Morning Macumba, were written abroad in Brazil and Peru, the music
on The Kiss was written while traveling around the world. The songs
were simmered in indigenous native spices, put through the Bicycle
Rider pop filter, and then spit out as only Bikeride can do.
But
please don't be confused. Bikeride, the band that put red, white,
and blue, on the map years before 9/11, remains dedicated to Americana
and the everlasting pop song. Listen to the countrified "A Dancer's
Feet Are Not So Neat" or the bubblegum pop of "She's Radioactive!"
Compared to bands as disparate as The Beatles, Pixies, Beck and Earth
Wind & Fire, Bikeride tackles just about every musical genre with
fun and precision.
The
new sound is not just American, but American Gothic. Bikeride has
embraced history. No, not the 15+ years they've been around, but the
days of yore. Listen to "There's Something Odd About Elizabeth".
It's Victorian, spooky, dreamy, and just might make you beseech Bikeride
to play your funeral. Listen to "Hole in My Eye". It'll
make you swing from a sail, drink Rum, and put on a blouse. (It's
that Pirate-y!) Then there's "Podiaphobia"- an epic five
minutes of prig-rock set amid maidens and castles- part Monty Python,
part Lord of the Rings. Sure to be a Renaissance Fair favorite.
Yes,
they've gotten darker but they haven't abandoned their sunny California
roots. Listen to "Your Lips and You", the first single off
The Kiss, and you'll see that Bikeride remains in top-pop-form. It's
a Revolver-esque sound collage where East meets West in an explosion
of strings and Santoors. Also, check out "The Mystery of Magnet
Power" and you'll see how only Bikeride can fuse influences as
dissimilar as Bowie and the musical Annie.
If you've been hungry for fresh Bikeride, this new record will appease
your appetite. It's hard to resist and soft as a Kiss.

of WOLF EYES. Housed in a massively ill fold-out six panel cover with
art by DENNIS TYFUS and pressed in a one-sided LP with an etching
on the B-side, the sonics match the sound of slowly rending circuit

chord of "Iron Man" with fluttering electronics that hover
in the air with all of the malevolent anti-gravity of leather wings.

Two Minutes to Midnight + BONUS SINGLE
PS, SWEDEN Special Offer: Initial orders will receive a free 2-song
CD-single featuring Jim's favorite Black Belt song, "Hold On"
plus "Noose", neither of which appear on the new album.
Black Belt traffic in gritty garage-rock heaviosity and dirigible
psychedelia, Swedish stonerrock with plenty of muscle, and a righteous
late-60s-early-70s vibe. Fans of fellow Scandinavians Elope, Motorpsycho
and The Soundtrack of Our Lives (and those bands' shared passions
for channelling rock gods of other eras) will find plenty to adore
here... If you are into big fuzzy guitars, fringe jackets, overdriven
vocals, frayed denim, sweet soul and tons of swagger look no further.
CD is packaged in an extremely plush full-color gatefold jacket with
a elegant velum wrap, while inside there's a booklet that folds out
in the shape of a cross and receives an official R Rating. Initial
orders will also receive a copy of their "Hold On" single
(PG-13) as a bonus, single features two awesome songs that don't appear
on any album. GROOVE MAGAZINE: "...A mix of fiery seventies hard
rock, psyched out mangle and a flirt with groovy soul that can make
your hips pop. But it is the energy that hits me right in my heart.
It is dirty like a coal miner, reaks of sweat like a festival fanatic
and snorts like a testosteron filled bull. Chose any song you like

Black To Comm
Wir können leider nicht etwas mehr zu tun...
PS, GERMANY "Wir können leider nicht etwas mehr zu tun..."
is the rather weird title for Black To Comm's 2nd Album release within
12 months, this time coming out on a gorgeous vinyl-only double-LP
with a beautifully strange gatefold sleeve in a limited edition of
500 copies. Black To Comm is the nom de plume for Hamburg's Dekorder
label head honcho Marc Richter's sonic voyages. In 2006 he released
a 7" lathe cut picture disc ("Levitation"), his debut
album "Rückwärts Backwards" on CD and very limited
vinyl and compilation tracks for the Finnish 267 Lattajjaa and Ukrainian
Quasipop labels. While the first album was mainly constructed from
dusty vinyl and shellac loops, the new album is based on "real"
instruments including several antique organs, electric harmonium,
acoustic & electric guitars, bells, clattery percussion, vintage
effect pedals and tape loops thereof. Richter builds up massive psychedelic
one-chord drones, minimal yet dense and heavily layered, full of spacious
details and swirling melodies buried within. Each track is slowly
building, drifting and floating hypnotically into a warm and shimmering
black ocean of sonic liquid, creating a mesmerizing and mysterious
mass of sound. While most of the works are thick monotone layers of
organic sound there's some sort of simple songwriting gleaming constantly
through the mist, making this a highly accessible drone album. Guest
musicians are Hamburg visual artist Renate Nikolaus on electric &
acoustic guitars and voice and electro-acoustic musician Gregory Büttner
on trumpet.

is every bit as bright, powerful, and catchy, with the addition of

Kele Okereke's interest in what he calls "the living noise of
a metropolis", this record captures every detail of daily life
in a modern city from the ebullient to the mundane. From the quiet
desolation of commuting to casual sex, from going out on a Friday

Circle
Miljard
PS, FINLAND A new Circle album is always cause for celebration around
these parts and this particular one gives us even more reason to get
giddy; two cds absolutely bursting with minimal chilly Finnish soundscapes.
Yes you heard me right, the kings of the new wave of Finnish heavy
metal have thrown down their guitars, kicked aside their Krautrock
leanings and picked up the piano to sculpt out a series of horizontally
leaning and deeply pensive pieces closer to say Willam Basinski or
Deaf Center than Neu! or Can. Conjuring up perfectly the icy Northern
European landscapes of their homeland, the band dispense with riffs
altogether in favour of looping textures and haunting field recordings.
The first disc, across its one hour duration explores quite magnificently
the piano, with compositions and improvisations edging on the subtlety
of Goldmund's 'Corduroy Road', yet adding layer upon layer of haunting
drone and worrying atmospherics giving the tracks a great weight.
In fact there's much in common with Angelo Badalamenti's 'Mulholland
Drive' score, or even the classic soundwork on David Lynch's similarly
gloomy 'Eraserhead', it's a common reference to say that something
is Lynchian, but Circle manage to share a common vision with Lynch
here, managing to achieve darkness without being camp and a dense
atmosphere without breaching on the industrial. This is only further
confirmed when you reach disc two, the most powerful of the two parts,
which uses what sounds like church bells and crackling old records
to push the atmosphere level to 11. Parts of the disc even lean toward
the classic work of pianist Harold Budd, or even Vangelis's seminal
crackly gem 'Memories of Green' from the Blade Runner soundtrack.
By the time you reach the final track, the 22 minute long shimmering
masterpiece 'Viitane', you will have probably ordered the band's entire
back catalogue; 'Miljard' is a bold and intense statement from one
of the world's most interesting acts, and should hopefully win them
an even more sizable fanbase. It seems like they can master every
style they approach so here's to another 20 years. Incredible stuff...

finest export have scaled back the krautrock and minimalist sounds
in favor of raging lunatic metal punk with indecipherable and insane
Finnish vocals, odd sounds, and amazingly tight musicianship, yet
what they play never comes close to standard fare. When you listen

Danny, a one-time cohort of Captain Beefheart, has stepped up the

Cornsican Paintbrush
Aquarian Hymns
PS, US The latest from the husband-and-wife team of BRAD and EDEN
ROSE (Digitalis, NORTH SEA, WAX GHOST, GOLDEN OAKS, etc.) under their
CORSICAN PAINTBRUSH moniker. Combining lush instrumentation with clattering
percussion and ramshackle beats, Corsican Paintbrush creates a new
world of sound out of old world technology. Swerving feverishly between
what could easily be chopped up Native American rhythms, sampled Celtic
melodies, and space-age funk played on trash heaps, the music of Corsican
Paintbrush is actually all of this and none of it. Aquarian Hymns
is nine tracks of gorgeously recorded acoustic grace; marked with
periodic bursts of lysergic freak-outs, from the sharpened slide guitar
strings and tired voice of "Break Through These Branches"
to the heavy accordion and woodwind drones of the closing track "Aquarius."

Dragon Or Emperor
S/T
PS, US DRAGON OR EMPEROR is the awesome two-piece lightning-bolt drums
& bass assault of AARON MOORE (VOLCANO THE BEAR, SONGS OF NORWAY)
on drums/vocals, and STEWART BRACKLEY (BLACK CARROT, Songs of Norway)
on bass guitar/vocals. Somewhat akin to a geeky Lightning Bolt in
thrift store suits loosening up and playing jazz-metal, with additional
manic Pere Ubu-style vocalizations, Moore beats absolute hell out
of his drum kit, whilst Brackley embarks on daring fretless excursions
to the absolute edges of what constitutes a rhythm. Dragon or Emperor
creates an enormous sound that marries their intense mixture of fun
and chaos. Aaron and Stewart have been friends for over 20 years,
and have previously played together (along with fellow Volcano the
Bear member, Nick Mott) in the improv jazz trio, Songs of Norway (Beta
Lactum Ring Records). However, it was when Moore heard Brackley sing
for the first time-with Black Carrot-that he knew the right thing
to do: form a band with him, and explore his new found voice.

PS, US International sounds homogenize through twisted, dirty avenues,
where the high-rolling boom-box dub kings cruise tropical boulevards,
tops down, stereos ablaze at twilight, while the jazzy ladies line
up. The Chicago trio's strange rawar style stretches the sonic palette
like Reed Richard's (Fantastic Four), whose creator Jack Kirby, plays
influence to vocalist Damon Lock's intricately woven album covers

Kicking off with a cyclic rendition of the classic Nusrat Fateh Ali
Khan track featuring vocals contributions from Pilot family members
Vinita Dade and 4-year-old Anurudh (pilot in training) singing over
a shimmering dulcimer led track. "EYES OF LOVE" Recording
very much with the spirit of Two-Tone in mind and the energy of early
Kinks, this uplifting summer groover is sung by Belle & Sebastian's
Stuart Murdoch & Sarah Martin. "IT'S IN THE HEART OF EVERYONE"
Simple Mathematics with former Lydia Lunch /Swans/Current 93 collaborator
Joe Budenholzer with harmonies from Karine Polwart -minus 4 equals

our man Joseph Budenholzer. "THE CITY OF LIGHT" The Go-Betweens
Robert Forster & Grant McLennan do a 'reading' of this miniscule
pop gem, 58 seconds of undiluted Pop to spring clean your mind! "NUCLEAR
WAR" Members of Sonic Youth (Thurston Moore/Kim Gordon), The
Fire Engines (Davy Henderson) and Stooges/Minutemen bass legend (Mike
Watt) pay homage to the spirit of jazz giant Sun Ra ,on this one of
his minimalist compositions from the 70's.This track also features
a rare recording of the 'fu-horn' performed by iconic radio producer
Stewart Cruickshank. "SHENANDOAH" This haunting folk song
features chilling vocals and waterfall piano by Karine Polwart alongside
young Glasgow improv percussionist Alex Neilson on loan from Scatter/Glasgow
Improviser's Orchestra. "FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS" This historic
track documents a genuine piece of 'instant composing' featuring a
live jam across the telephone exchange, Sushil K Dade performs on
acoustic guitar in Glasgow whilst Damo Suzuki (Can) listens to the
chords 'down the line' from his Cologne HQ and responds with his hauntingly

Songs For A Dog
PS, US A collection of solo songs by New York City's prolific MICHAEL
GIRA (SWANS, ANGELS OF LIGHT, Young God Records). On Songs for a Dog,
Gira has collected ten tracks that catch him in his purest form. Mostly
built around his guitar and voice in a home studio environment, the
songs here both expose the very kernels from which he usually works
from and illustrate only too perfectly how they can function without
the layers of sound he's also often fond of exploring. More importantly,
these songs capture an artist who seems forever capable of pushing
himself into new avenues and whose laurels consistently get cast aside
in the process. Imported from the UK. Limited edtion.

Greenham, Lily
Lingual Music
PS, US Britain's best known sound poet is Bob Cobbing, but it's hard
to come up with a list of other sound poets working in Britain in
the '60s and '70s. It's equally difficult to think of any female sound
poets working anywhere. LILY GREENHAM was Danish, but spent her childhood
in Vienna. After several relocations across Europe she settled in
London in 1972 with her British husband (musician and poet Peter Greenham),
where she lived until her death in 2001. Nearly all of her own writings
and compositions date from after her arrival in London, but prior
to her arrival in London she had been involved in two major European
art movements. The Wienner Group in the late 1950s and the "Groupe
de Recherche d'Art Visuel in 1964. In London she began to record her
own text based compositions that used a mixture of sound poetry techniques,
electronics and multi-tracking. The term 'lingual music' that she
coined for her compositions refers to her technique of using tape
loops of text to create complex and dense musical structures. This
DCD set compiles a wide variety of her own work (1968 and 1984), including
live solo performances, film soundtrack pieces, as well as many tape
pieces.

Holiday For Strings
S/T
PS, BELGIUM It may sound pretentious to say that CD is one of the
most exciting debut releases of this year. But as far as we know it
surely is. Think the mad guitars of a clean Sonic Youth mixed with
the groove and unlimited beats of an alternative Lee Perry or Animal
Collective. Swedish band Holiday for Strings is throwing infinite
melodies, humor, tensions and relief like no others ever did before.
CD is slowly becoming unforgettable after its first listen. Catchy
without being hip, HFS proves through their rhythms, guitars, vocals
that groove has its place among alternative post-pop, that funky tunes
and beats can be perfectly connected to everlasting guitar riffs.
Purely and simply outstanding... Mastered by Harris Newman (Constellation)
and designed by Hans Seeger (Pulseprogramming, Tortoise,...). "Swedish
connection appears in the form of the fabulously named Holiday for
Strings from Stockholm, whose deeply groovy "I got Two Hands"
sounds like an unholy alliance between The Monochrome Set and the

Human Eye
Dinosaur Bones + 2
PS, US Following the imminent collapse of Detroit's long-running punk
rock killers the Clone Defects, frontman Timmy Vulgar took a little
time off before he assembled the world's weirder Human Eye. Putting
the "what the fuck are they doing?!?" back in punk rock,
Human Eye is a psychedelic and synth-freak out organism with a sneering
skeleton that's trapped in a basement covered with Misfits posters
and Electric Eels bootleg tapes on the floor. The most punk-rooted
of the recent movement of new and thoroughly insane Detroit bands
who are drinking spray paint or Sparks (depending on which is cheaper)
and making really exciting, really fucked up new sounds. This 7"

Sound Inside
PS, BELGIUM It's always easy to compare a band to another but in this
case even if we can feel a lot of influent bands, we can't easily
describe the grace and beauty that touch Immune's wonderful official
debut Sound Inside. Magnificent guitars, piano melodies, smooth electronics,
strings and drums are melted in a thrilling imaginary score for a
sad but hopeful world. Some references that are usually mentioned
are Mark Hollis, Sigur Ros, Hood, Arab Strap or Elbow. Immune defines
a thin line between post-rock and sad post-electronic with its own
delicate wave of tenderness that will push you to remind all the souvenirs
of your childhood or the smell of winter falling leave in lonesome
woods. Simply superb. Immune was founded in 2001, in Lyon (France).
"As all the most beautiful stories, Sound Inside never last long
enough...but gives itself clues and evidences of eternity". ROCK
POST. "Think Hood, think tensions, think wide, think Lali Puna,
it's a melancholy that keep us immunized proving that there's more
than sound inside, there's also heat" - Eraserhead.

Kiev Cuando Nieva
S/T
PS, SPAIN Produced by Rafael Martinez del Pozo (JR), each musical
instrument seems to have achieved its due place by a force which has
been propelled by a persistent intensity which has made it fundamental.
As for the rest, that which was left it has been swiftly swept away
by the northern Cierzo wind, or even one from the steppe. Banjos,
faulty keyboards, drums which resound as if machinery, guitars that
find a space in which to dialogue between the ghostly reminder of
a bass that isn't there. The fragile voices make their way among this
estranged beauty, and speak of forest keepers, subalterns, trips to
hermitages, coincidences, and get-togethers with friends. The record
shapes up as the listening continues, like a panoramic view of a world
amazed by the smallest details, by the daily baroque, by the melancholy
and the humor.

Kuupuu
Unilintu
PS, GERMANY "Unilintu" is the second of two vinyl-only LP's
on the Dekorder label compiling the best material from Kuupuu's first
four CD-R and cassette releases, this time presenting a slightly darker
and even more coherent sonic vision compared to last year's gorgeous
"Yökehrä" LP which we sold out immediately (2nd
edition is now available). Here's what we said about the first LP:
Jonna Karanka aka Kuupuu is one of the main movers of the (deservedly)
much hyped Finnish Psychedelic Free Folk scene. Originally hailing
from Tampere she is known as a core member of Avarus, Anaksimandros,
Kukkkiva Poliisi and Maniacs Dream. She has recently started Hertta
Lussu Ässä with Lau Nau and Islaja and has collaborated
with Tomutonttu (aka Jan Anderzen of Kemialliset Ystävät)
and Paavi (as Lussu ja Paavi). This LP is a beautiful collection of
haunting home baked freeform folk songs, strange lo-fi loops, vocal
drones and psychedelic cut-ups, made using weirdly tuned plucked and
strummed strings, bells, clattery percussion, unidentifiable wind
instruments, backwards tape loops and a ton of other noisemakers played
and recorded by herself; accompanied by her distinctive voice in her
native Finnish language making the whole atmosphere even more haunting
and mysterious. Jonna Karanka creates an intimate space where the
listener feels like sitting next to her in a small chamber or outside
in the woods. References: Fursaxa, Vashti Bunyan, Kemialliset Ystävät,
Colleen, Animal Collective, Lau Nau, Jewelled Antler, Wooden Wand.
"Of all the many travelers in the Finnish psychedelia scene,
Kuupuu is surely one of the most enigmatic. (The Wire, September 2006).

La Buena Vida
Sencillos
PS, SPAIN Digibox with 5 CD singles. There is jovial cheer for the
festive season and we are happy to announce a special event. Many
people have waited years and years for this release to come out. Loyal
followers of pop heartthrobs La Buena Vida will want to rush out to
record stores to pick up this singles box set, which spans the band's
career from 1992-2000. A gladiatorial thumbs-up gesture from the public
is expected on this occasion as most of the material included in this
special and deluxe box set is sold out (EP tracks only available on
vinyl and classified "on the long deleted" and "impossible
to find") including a whole load of rarities and cover versions.
"Sencillos" contains 5 CDs that rescue the old times of
the best Spanish band of the 1990's. La Buena Vida were the definitive
Spanish cult indie pop band, marking the beginning of the smooth guitar
pop explosion and seminal to the effervescence of Donosti-pop (Family,
Le Mans, Daily Planet and El Joven Bryan). Seen as Siesta heavyweights
they remained with us from 1992 to 2003 and left a trademark sound
and a formidable discography. Their tasty songs have made them as
a historic name with a devoted loyal fan base and they have sparked
an underground movement. The early material is a riot of exuberant
energy, taking stylistic cues from peers like The Smiths, Orange Juice,
BMX Bandits or New Order to the adored big names (Beatles, Love, Beach
Boys, Nick Drake). Although they are sometimes pigeonholed as cutie
twee-pop, their pieces range from elegant bossa-nova to Motown-soul,
from chamber pop to danceable synth-pop. Their cult status in Spain
is similar to other examples in Britain such as The Smiths, Belle
and Sebastian, Cure o Prefab Sprout. The outfit was formed in San
Sebastian during the summer of 1988. The line-up was singer Irantzu
Valencia, guitarists Mikel Aguirre and Javier Sanchez, bassist Pedro
San Martin, keyboardist Borja Sanchez, and drummer Raul Sebastian.
They finally signed to the fledgling Siesta label in 1992. CD 1: October
1992- the legendary "Historia de un verano" 7"-vinyl
EP was released. The quintessential debut EP remains vibrant and punchy
today as the best example of innocent, sparkling, iridescent, infectious
and refreshing pop, like sunlight on water (Hoy es domingo/ El tren/
Historia de un verano/ Mi reloj). Not strangely it was sold out in
just a few months. We have added Tardes de café to the original
tracklisting. This song was featured in the Seven Summers compilation
(Tweenet / Kindercore) for US and Germany. CD 2: .La Buena Vida's
debut LP followed in October 1993, and seven months later the band
resurfaced with the EP Mira a tu Alrededor inc. 4 exclusive tracks
under another extraordinary jacket artwork by Javier Aramburu. Again
the seven inch vinyl got immediately sold-out. The overall tone of
the record is a sunshine day with shades that accentuate the brilliance.
Each track (Mira a tu alrededor/ Malabares/ Velomar/ La gran familia)
is a three minute burst of pop heaven. A bonus track Bajo el paraguas
originally included in the Europop EP (Siesta 15) completes the CD.
CD 3: September 1995- Magnesia (Magnesia/ Menta y agua/ A pesar de
todo/ En bicicleta 1995) was the new pop effort which rocketed the
band (being fashioned while being elegant and still having a very
eighties feeling). A perfect record for fans of any form of contemporary
or retro electronic music, we would dare to say that this was released
at the peak of the band's work. The epitome of pop perfection. CD
4: May 2000, Maxi-CD/-EP "Eureka" featuring sophisticated
electro pop (Otra vez tú/ Guillermine). As extra tracks, two
well crafted and melodic pop gems that appeared in some Siesta mythical
compilations Dulce y callado (Expreso) and Mil ventanas abiertas (Sombrero).
You'll find yourself humming these indelible tunes all day long...
CD 5: Cover Versions: 1994- That summer feeling (Jonathan Richman)
and Candy Says (Velvet Underground). 1995- Here, there and everywhere
(The Beatles). 1997- Mas yo no tengo nada (Formula V) and a song inspired
by the film "Night of the Hunter" from Charles Laughton,
H. Powell. 1998- Old man (Love). 2000- Más dura será
la caída (Gabinete Caligari) and Cómo pudiste hacerme
esto a mí (Dinarama). If you are a LBV fan or completist, this
release is absolutely worthy of purchasing.

Larval/Bill Brovold
Surviving Death/AliveWhy
PS, US Fifth album from the ever changing lineup featuring some of
the best musicians in Detroit and led by composer BILL BROVOLD. It
is an amalgamation of styles and approaches to music, from quiet and
thoughtful passages to an aggressive onslaught of screaming horns,
guitars and assorted strings. This new studio recording & a second
disc covering seven years of potent live work both showcase their
unique experimental rock that often combines wall-of-sound guitars,
bass and drums with saxes and violin, and is very direct and powerful.
Brovold studied painting of the School of Visual Arts in NYC and received
his degree in 1982. While there he was making music (and sounds) for
film makers and performance artists. in 1983 he joined the ensemble
of experimental/no- wave legend Rhys Chatham as guitarist and stayed
on until 1988. In 1994 he moved to the Detroit area, where he formed
Larval. He is still active in the making of visual arts, and continues
making art and exhibiting around the country as well as making music
for film makers and dancers. "Bill Brovold's music blows me away.
Larval is the shit."- ZORN. "The band completely eschews
solos, or any other display of instrumental might.... Larval are willing
to sacrifice the glory of the individual for a tightly wound whole."-

Les Matins de Grand Soirs
PS, US Montreal's 60s mod rock sextet is back full force with a new
album that serves justice to the bands sound & energy. Franco-rock,
gorgeously garagey, frenetic & contagious. "If albums could
smoke, 'Les Matins de Grands Soirs would be a smokestack in a world
of skinny cigarette fashionistas. Instead of hiding behind smoke clouds,
let me be clear: I really love this record- [...] This will surely
prove to be a significant release, elevating the sextet into some
very combustible (and electrically charged) rock n roll company..."

Blind Wound
PS, US LEVIATHAN is the audial bastard spawn of the musician known
as WREST (also main-man behind LURKER OF CHALICE and member of TWILIGHT).
Cruel and boundary less, these Leviathan tracks continue to push the
band into the uncharted waters of punishing black metal art. Of particular
note is the fact that these Leviathan tracks represent the first time
ever that Wrest has played live/acoustic drums on a Leviathan album.
Although each Leviathan album released is a credible, important achievement
The Blind Wound material is outstandingly dark and impressive. Their
is a decidedly more "human" vibe here but fear not its still
grim and cold as ever. This material was initially available on a
split CD with Sapthuran but now is available on its own on 180-gram
virgin vinyl.

Lilja, Tobias
Time is on My Side
PS, US "Time Is on My Side" is Swedish experimental composer
Tobias Lilja's second full-length album and first on n5MD. This follow
up to his sonic debut "Ex-leper" (nonresponse) has all the
controlled visions of decay as its predecessor but with the addition
of Tobias' desperate yet controlled vocals. These vocals bring to
the fore-front a humanistic layer of melody to the tonal blizzard
of Tobias' music yielding new dimensions which are to most, unclassifiable.
Said by the artist to be somewhat loosely inspired by some of David
Sylvian's recent work, this comparison though is almost a moot point
due to Tobias' originality in his instrumental composition and his
vocal delivery, melody and cadence. "Time Is on My Side"
is truly in a world of its own. A teetering balance of contradictions...
Frigid yet in some way invitingly warm, desperate with a false sense
of hope, other-worldly yet somehow familiar, this balance is where
Tobias Lilja excels and is proof of an artist who has found "his"
sound. "Time Is on My Side" is one of those rare works of
art that comes along to help you through those dark times when everything
seems hopeless...

the last few years and has managed to sell several thousand of them
pretty much on his own. His music has been described as soulful indie
folk with a powerful mini

songs seem to bloom like time-lapse photography, depicting glimpsed
scenes of
modern disaffection and timeless yearning. "Loney, Noir"
is at once effervescent and resigned, exhilarating and melancholy,
joyous and confessional.

Marcia Blaine School For Girls, The
Halfway Into The Woods
PS, UK With a name based on the fictional school in 'The Prime Of
Miss Jean Brodie', The Marcia Blaine School For Girls is actually
comprised of three Glaswegian lads who have been forging their own
particular approach to electronic music for the past few years, melding
such disparate styles as American minimalism, Detroit techno and the
blunted groove of dancehall and then adding their own distinct signature
treatments of crushed rhythms and affecting haunting melodies. Since
their inception they have released a steady stream of material for
labels including Static Caravan, Benbecula, Awkward Silence, Dalriada,
Expanding, Struktur and Stuff Records, and also previously curated
a compilation of Scottish electronica for Highpoint Lowlife. 'Halfway
Into The Woods' is their debut full-length, and finds them incorporating
vocals for the first time, and expanding upon the recurring themes
and ideas hinted at on previous releases. There's a whole rich seam
of electronic history running through this album from Orbital to Autechre,
through to the modern IDM players.

eccentric and endearing tale about a small-town balloon maker. Led
by melancholy brass, off-kilter keys, and Tim Smith's fragile vocals,
this would melt even the hardest of hearts. The (equally eccentric)
video for Balloon Maker was directed by Jason Lee (star of Almost

have crafted a stunning sound that combines bittersweet psychedelic

Moskitoo
Drape
PS, US 12k kicks off its 11th year with a new release that takes the
label down new sonic pathways. Caught between the organic and electronic
minimalism that 12k is known for and the unconventional Japanese pop
musings and songwriting style of Happy, Moskitoo's Drape is an infectiously
strange, bleepy, and dreamy debut release. Sanae Yamasaki (Moskitoo)
hails from Sappporo, Japan in Hokkaido, the country's northern-most
prefecture. Perhaps a reaction to the cool climate of her home, her
multi-instrumental talents bring a wide range of warm tones and textures
to Drape by means of guitar, metallophone, organ, drum machines, synthesizers
and nostalgic toy instruments. Yamasaki's gentle, airy vocals play
off of broken beats and aqueous sound drops evoking half-awake memories
lost and found. Influenced by visual art (she painted the cover image),
modern electronic music and abstract pop, such as Eno's explorations
in the 1970's, Yamasaki does not set out to write a particular style
of music, but rather, lets her creative process emerge naturally,
following whims and experiments. Drape is, by far, the most structured
and song written release on 12k to date. It's a release that signifies
not a complete directional change for the label but the creative go-ahead
to add new nuances to the already established sound that the label
has pioneered.

Oram, Daphne
Oramics
PS, US DAPHNE ORAM is best known for her design of her Oramics system,
and also for co-founding the BBC Radiophonic Workshop in 1957, but
until now the only easily available piece of music by her on CD has
been the 8-minute long "Four Aspects." There was also a
7-inch EP from 1962 on HMV, released as part of the Listen, Move and
Dance series that was specifically designed to help children dance.
Although the short pieces on this record are very basic it could be
argued that this is the first ever electronic dance record! Now for
the first time is a survey of nearly all the major pieces that she
produced since her departure from the BBC in January 1959 until her
final tape piece in 1977. The two and a half hours of music on this
2CD set covers the whole range of Oram's post BBC output. All of the
music is electronic with some occasional use of real instruments,
especially small percussion and piano frame. There is also some use
of musique concrte techniques. The works fall roughly into the following
categories: works for TV and cinema advertising, film soundtracks,
music for theatre productions, installations and exhibitions as well
as concert pieces and several studio experiments.

Others, The / Sans / Sungragon
Listen to the Sky: The Complete Recordings 1964-69
PS, UK Listen To The Sky is a fascinating journey through the changing
musical landscape of the '60s as realised by a group of young musicians
from Richmond, Surrey. Influenced by local heroes The Rolling Stones
and The Yardbirds (who wasn't?), they started out as The Others in
1963. Their guitarist had been kicked out of Hampton Grammar School
for wearing his hair too long and they were soon signed up by the
Bryan Morrison/Jimmy Duncan agency in London, home of The Pretty Things.
With their R&B credentials in place, their first single was a
respectable reading of the Bo Diddley staple "Oh Yeah" in
1964. Sadly, various band members were pressured into quitting the
band and continuing their studies and the band was reborn with a more
pronounced Who/pop-art influence, first as The Army, then as Sands.
They were managed by the Marquee Organization and enjoyed a residency
at the esteemed London venue in late 1966/early 1967 before being
snapped up by Brian Epstein and Robert Stigwood at NEMS who put them
on stage at his one of their infamous Saville Theatre nights as support
to Cream and Edwin Starr. By the time they came to record their next
single, Sands had lost band members to the Jeff Beck Group and Procol
Harum (then at number one!). Stigwood insisted they record "Mrs
Gillespie's Refrigerator", a tune by his new darlings The Bee
Gees but the B-side, "Listen To The Sky", is all their own
work... with a little help from Holst's "Mars God of War"
from The Planet Suite. The track has since become an acknowledged
classic of British psychedelic pop, making regular appearances on
compilations such as the Nuggets 2 and Mojo magazine's Acid Drops
And Space Dust box sets. Following Epstein's death, interest in Sands
disappeared and half the band quit, leaving just two members to forge
ahead as Sundragon. Signed to MGM and assigned to producer Derek Lawrence,
they were convinced to cover The Lemon Pipers' recent US smash "Green
Tambourine" as their debut and Sundragon's excellent version
became a minor UK hit in 1968. The album that followed features further
US covers ("So You Wanna Be A Rock 'n' Roll Star", "Windy")
alongside strong psychorientated originals ("Five White Horses",
"Look At The Sun", "Peacock Dress") with muscular
musical support from the nascent Deep Purple. As was so often the
case, neither the album nor the follow-up singles fared very well.
A handful of pseudonym singles (High Noon, The Cruisers, McClintock)
followed before the close of the decade saw this particular musical
storybook close with it. - Features all the original '60s releases
by The Others, Sands and Sundragon! - First time on CD for almost
all of these 23 tracks! - Includes four previously unreleased bonus
tracks! - Features R&B belter "Oh Yeah", psych-pop classic
"Listen To The Sky", soft-pop favourite "Far Away Mountain"
and bona fide UK hit "Green Tambourine"! - In-depth liner
notes by Stefan Granados featuring all-new interview material with
original band members! - Remastered in the usual astounding Rev-Ola
style! - A must for all fans of British '60s pop, psych, soft-pop,
R&B, blue-eyed soul and even Deep Purple!

acclaimed albums but one of highlights of the entire micro sound genre:
Shuttle358 Frame. Complete with the original recording and video,
Frame has been repackaged for 12k's Limited Series into a unique chipboard
sleeve on which all graphics and text are printed only with white
ink. The re-issue of this classic album will give a new generation
of 12k followers a listen to one of the label's most defining moments.
The original press-release text (from 12k1011, Shuttle358 Frame):
Frame is the much-anticipated follow up release to 1999's debut optimal.
lp, a compact disc which caused quite a bit of critical stir as a
very impressive and original work for a new artist. Dan Abrams (aka:
shuttle358) seamlessly blends stark textures/drones with digital dysfunction.
Clicks, skips and tiny mechanized rhythms intertwine in hypnotic form
that Abrams allows to evolve in a very organic way. Frame picks up
where Optimal.lp left off. A bit more distant with excursions into
deeper realms of Abrams' signature skittish minimalist rhythmic work.
Frame includes a video, filmed and directed Abrams himself, in DVCAM
for the opening title track of the album. It is available on the cd
in Quicktime format, as well as a separate high-res VHS release (12k9004).
The use of movement and abstracted forms along with a subtle color
palette of whites, blues and yellows is a perfect visual accompaniment
to the fragile rhythms of his work.

Reservations
PS, UK For Fans Of: Low, Nick Drake, The Go-Betweens, Will Oldham
Over the course of ten years, three albums, countless months in the
backs of vans throughout Europe and North America, the duo of Karl
Smith and Pete Cohen have been progressively expanding the musical
world of Sodastream from scratchy lo-fi and barely whispered mournful
melancholy through to lush expansive pop with horn sections and singalongs.
But now they're home, and settled, and on Reservations, their fourth
studio album, a darkness has settled in. Karl Smith (vocals, guitar)
and Pete Cohen (double bass and deeply baritone backing vocals) effortlessly
jump from acoustic introspection and instrumentals to raucous singalong
shanties without any hint of affectation. Even with the additions
of horns, harmonicas, and the drums of Marty Brown (Art of Fighting
and Clare Bowditch's Feeding Set) on their studio albums, the core
of their sound remains the same as it is live - Smith's acoustic guitar,
Pete's driving double bass and some of the best, most beautiful songwriting
to come out of Australia in years. Sodastream's previous albums, Looks
Like A Russian, The Hill for Company and A Minor Revival, along with
many EPs and live recordings, have been released throughout the world
on some of the most renowned indie labels including Tugboat, Rough

subtractiveLAD
No Man's Land
PS, US When Canadian electronic musician Stephen Hummel's debut as
Subtractive-LAD "Giving Up The Ghost" materialized in 2005
n5MD touted it as an amalgam of the label's emotional experiments
in music credo. With his second album "Suture" (2006) subtractiveLAD
toughened things up a bit by getting darker and somewhat emotionally
weighted. With his new 3rd full-length for n5MD entitled "No
Man's Land" subtractiveLAD has out shined his previous albums
by creating an introspective and focused actualization of his emotions.
In past outings subtractiveLAD has only hinted at such introspection
and has let us see just a hint of such depth of psyche. This new more
open aesthetic has seemingly given Hummel a newer confidence in his
sound that has led him to push further its boundaries by adding elements
such as guitar, field recordings, and even hints of vocal texture
to his signature style of self-made synth melodies and compressed
beats. Songs of defiance, love, exasperation, hope, loss and even
pleasure are all compiled in such a way to lead you through a journey
of great musical rewards. SubtractiveLAD has yet again captured a
resounding annotation of n5MD as a label and as a stylistic categorization,
proof that there can be a beating heart behind all the silicone and
wires. tracklisting: The Shell, Life in a Day, Of Sand and Stars,
Synthetism, Bring to Light All Ways, Meditation 17, The Sun in Your

Sykes, Jesse and the Sweet Hereafter
Like, Love, Lust & The Open Halls Of The Soul
PS, US A sprawling album, deep with musical and lyrical texture. There's
a timeless quality to this record; its rocking guitar solos and driving
rhythms could easily be a lost gem cut by Crazy Horse between takes
with Neil, but it retains the fragile beauty of much of Sykes' earlier
work as well. From lilting to waltzing sway to hallucinatory psychedelia,
this record finds Sykes and her band exploring new sounds with a confident
ease. Guest appearances from Nicolai Dunger, jazz keyboardist Wayne
Horvitz, and avant garde violinist/composer Eyvind Kang.

Times New Viking
Paisley Reich
PS, US The lastest from Columbus, Ohio's TIMES NEW VIKING ably avoids
D.S.A. syndrome (an acronym coined by The Shadow Ring meaning "difficult
second album"). Having developed even more vim and vigor, TNV's
blur of high-concept pop, crud, and crunch is staggering. It's the
malcontented rumble of Times New Viking wistfully channeling spirits
from the grime of Washington Beach to the shine of the Otago Peninsula.
And in Reich-speak, that may take a thousand years to achieve, but
you don't have to be a Scottish weaver to know that paisley wasn't
patterned in a day. Patience is a grace. In the meantime, hold onto
the rail and let it rock! CD features six tracks not on the upcoming
vinyl, including a rad half cover of the Half Japanese classic "Thing
With a Hook (Lover's Lane)," plus both songs from the band's
2006 single Busy Making Love And War.

Tresestrellas
5
PS, GERMANY Drums and cavernous electric guitars, with echoes from
Neil Young and Crazy Horse, with anxious and cut dry blows which behave
like dried paper acting upon the humidity of the songs, almost always
based on ringlets made of a few solemn chords, which are left to sound
with calmness. A soloist voice with a real, yet complex understanding
of the drama which perfectly shapes the density of the song: where
the dandyishness of Nick Cave invades passages where time is suspended,
where the slow core is pinpointed, coming up and coming down, whispering,
stammering...threading word after word until it becomes a sentence.
And if we read between the lines we can even detect the hypnotic stoicism
of old country blues from Skip James or the Carter Family.

Uncut
#118 (March 2007)
PS, UK Cover = The Smiths! Their greatest songs compiled by Oasis,
REM, Ian Brown, and Kaisers. Editor's Letter: The mornings, that summer,
inevitably started with one of two records, both released in August,
at a time when you heard something new every week that made your jaw
drop and your head, as it were, spin. One was Dylan's "Like A
Rolling Stone", which roared through the early a.m. like nothing
I'd hitherto heard. The other, just as electrifying, and similarly
like something that gave you the impression the first time you heard
it that there had been nothing before quite like it, was James Brown's
"Papa's Got A Brand New Bag". Blaring anthems both, that
gave hints of powerful new worlds to come, they helped stir in me
a passion I am still a long way from giving up, such is the enduring
thunder of those times and their music. Not that subsequently there
has been a verifiable absence of new bands whose music down the years
has ignited the same enthusiasms. The Smiths, for instance, whose
impact when they first hoved into view had an impact on the fans who
would eventually hold them in such hallowed thrall that was as powerful
as Bob's and James Brown's.

From Brussels With Love
PS, UK 19 tracks. LTM is proud to announce the very first CD release
of the classic 1980 compilation album From Brussels With Love, also
the debut release from chic Belgian indie label Les Disques du Crepuscule
(TWI 007). Originally released as a deluxe cassette/book package in
November 1980, From Brussels With Love featured 22 exclusive tracks
from the international avant garde and new wave, as well as the celebrated
Factory Records roster. Then, as now, the contributing artists include
Gavin Bryars, Harold Budd, Dome, The Durutti Column, John Foxx, Martin
Hannett, Richard Jobson, Bill Nelson, New Order and Michael Nyman.
The programme also includes extended interviews with Brian Eno and
iconic French actress Jeanne Moreau. Writing in NME in 1980, journalist
Paul Morley praised From Brussels With Love thus: "This is a
reminder - without really trying, without being obvious - that pop
is modern poetry, is the sharpest, shiniest collection of experiences,
is always something new." And according to Dave McCullough in
Sounds: "This tape, a long mysterious piece of collective modern
overdrive, points to a future somewhere." This new CD edition
has been digitally remastered from the original master tapes, and
features 75 minutes of material. Most of the tracks remain featured
here unavailable elsewhere.

All This & Heironymus Bosch
PS, US Eighth album marks more departures from previous formulas,
resulting in some of their finest & freshest sonics yet. Synthesizers
& electronics take more of a backseat role while the sitar bubbles
strongly to the surface. The result lends an Eastern-tinged vibe to
many of the tunes, a late 60s consciousness-elevating cool. Masterful
guitar work is still in rich abundance, but many of the dark psych
passages Vocokesh are known for is offset by some sunnier trajectories.

Alsace Lorraine
Dark One (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 5TH )(ON SALE)
PS, US Alsace Lorraine is the delicately delicious and unique electronic/guitar
pop creation of seminary professor Paul Francke. We're pleased to announce
that our favorite singer on Earth, Argentinean Singer/Artist Isol has
joined Alsace Lorraine to sing on four of the album's 14 tracks too.
Isol sings here in English for the first time! Isol left her band Entre
Rios (Elefant {Spain}/Darla {US}) when the group signed with EMI Latin
America because the deal demanded too much time away from her profession
as an Artist/Illustrator. Caitlin Brice sings backing vocals on two
tracks. Jane Francke (Paul's sister) sings one track. The sophomore
Alsace album Dark One, though not literally very "Dark", was
recorded and mixed by Paul at Paul's home studio in Chicago. Isol's
warm, exotic, sensual vocals were recorded in Isol's bedroom studio
in Buenos Aires. Paul's unique bedroom uber-pop soundtrack provides
the perfect music bed to Isol's vocal. The result is a unique blend
of Astrud Gilberto, Wolfgang Press, Eurythmics, Pale Saints, St. Etienne,
Magnetic Fields, Hope Sandoval, as well as The Wake, Section 25 and
other Factory-esque influences. Hopefully, Paul and Isol will make more
beautiful music together. Alsace Lorraine sounds romantic; thoughtful,
sensuous and smart. Comment from Paul Francke: I began the album begun
during college on the south side of Chicago and completed it while working
in Campbeltown, on the end of the Kintyre Peninsula, the most remote
part of mainland Britain. Between those points I worked on the record
in an Episcopalian seminary dormitory in Alexandria, Virginia, while
training to be a seminary professor. It couldn't have been done without
my brilliant, non-religious friends: Isol sings four of the best songs
on the album, but she also made important suggestions for changes to
the lyrics and music. We share a lot of beliefs regarding art and beyond,
and it has been fascinating to work with her. Her friend Nico recorded
her vocals in a studio in Buenos Aires. Caitlin Brice, the lead singer
from the previous album, sings excellent backup on two songs here. Joe
Moore plays guitar on one song, and my younger sister Jane sings on
one song as well.

Kraut Slut is the stuff of wicked dance dreams. Angel Sánchez
Borges also records as Seekers Who Are Lovers on the Soundsister label.
In a recent interview on URB Magazine, Borges says his secret to the
AAM sound is his love for "My Bloody Valentine, a gentle way of
dealing with strange layers of sounds. I want people to dance to these
noisy grooves". Pitchformedia recently described his music in "the
glitch/dub/minimal techno vein, with carefully constructed rips and
blips stretched across a wide, white sonic canvas".

Arkansaw Man
S/T (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE FEBRUARY 20TH)
PS, US Here is the unlikely CD debut of ARKANSAW MAN, a wildly obscure
San Francisco art-punk band that flickered to life all so briefly in
1981. 25 minutes of music, 25 years ago and sayonara. Still, the best
things in life - in the life of music, anyway - often are tucked away
where they are hard to find. With a brilliant economy of means and sparseness
reminiscent of dub, the band got an amazing jump start on post-Rock.
It revels in terse and choppy guitar, the languid, sour leakage of keyboards
and horns, and occasional lyrics sung as ironic disclaimer, while the
spare yet vaguely ominous bass lines recall the Gang of Four played
back at 4 RPM. A quarter of a century ago, the spindly funk machinery
and discordant scraping guitars of Arkansaw Man failed to give the world
much to latch onto, so its music got lost, abandoned in a locker at
pop culture's bus depot, the key left floating in a gutter somewhere
one day to be scavenged. There's no better place to find a glimmer of
artistic gold.

Retrospectiv [domestic version] (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE FEBRUARY 20TH)
PS, US Formed from the ashes of punk/experimental legends Apparat (not
the German Apparat, the Swedish one) and PVC in the late 90's, Audionom
is a Stockholm supergroup that quickly became a popular live act known
for its abrasive shows that also integrated the films of member Martin
Malm. The band's hypnotic pummeling sound took inspiration from their
love for such early experimental visionaries as Hawkwind, Brian Eno,
and Neu! Nowhere is this more evident then on their full length debut
Retrospektiv, which is comprised of material taken from various recordings
and incarnations spanning 1999-2002. Repetition is definitely a reoccurring
theme on Retrospektiv. Whether it's the punishing monotonous sound in
opener "Ljusets Krigare", the electronically-keyed "Kristall,"
or avant Joy Division-esque "And You Said I Was The Only One,"
the merging of electronic and punk rock is repeated throughout the entire
record.

Bark Haze, The
Untitled (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE FEBRUARY 27TH)
PS, US This exclusive CD release is entirely different from the LP release
on Important, which is also untitled. The Bark Haze is primarily a guitar
duo of GOWN (nom de plume of one Andrew Macgregor) and Thurston Moore
(Sonic Youth, etc). Auxiliary members have been know to include Pete
Nolan (Magik Markers, Virgin Eye Blood Brothers, Cops et al). Their
name came from a mishearing of the radical early 70s R+B group the Bar-Kays
and from that moment the concept of mishearing and allegiance to presenting
the mishearing as some open-ended musical course became The Bark Haze's
identity. So far all concerts have taken place in Western Massachusetts
and once in the confines of Cambridge, MA's Twisted Village record emporium.
They anxiously await their debut gig in the UK at the Nightmare Before

PS, US Rich with BEACH BOYS style harmonies, ROY ORBISON reverbs and

by way of Western Canada. Their independently released previous record,
"Volume I", came out in 2004, and it was noticed by critics
but was largely overlooked by the public at large. On both records,
The Besnard Lakes have shown that they are masters of finely-honed experimental
pop songs that invoke the eerie Lynchian setting as aided and abetted
by the music of Julee Cruise. But, on "The Besnard Lakes Are The
Dark Horse", the band throws into the mix a mad dash of FLEETWOOD
MAC proportioned swagger and ambition. Not so incidentally, The Besnard
Lakes have created a masterpiece that will resonate within all quarters,
amongst critics, casual and not-so-casual rock listeners, garden variety
pop fans and headphone junkies.

Besnard Lakes Are The Dark Horse" is a luxurious foray into sound
and music. This is the second record by THE BESNARD LAKES, Montrealers
by way of Western Canada.

The Seeds and The 13th Floor Elevators, live or on record it's hard
to hide the fun these boys have and impossible to describe their unpredictable
live show and how uninhibited the audiences are. This record is an amazing

Burning Star Core
Blood Lightning 2007 (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE FEBRUARY 27TH)
PS, US Full of creeping drones, strange mutilated vocal incursions,
and compositions full of unidentifiable sounds both acoustic and electronic.
Another classic in organized sound and idea from the mind of Mr. C.
Spencer Yeh. Blood Lightning is the third in a series of very particular
BxC works in theme and scope, beginning with "Three Sisters Who
Share an Eye" (No Fun limited LP series), and then "Everyday
World of Bodies" LP (Ultra Eczema.) Ideas of drone, 'minimalism,'
and human themes are heavily a concern, and unlike other recent and
upcoming major works, BxC on these albums is kept intimate, primarily
operated by C. Spencer Yeh. Instrumentation includes the current BxC
trinity of voice, violin and electronics, surrounded by a whole host
of other methods. In recent years the BxC line-up both live and in-studio
has included Robert Beatty and Trevor Tremaine (of Kentucky/Michigan-based
maniacs Hair Police) and solo sound artist Mike Shiflet- Who all appear
on the last track of this release. Burning Star Core began in 1993 in
Cincinnati, Ohio where it currently resides with primary member C. Spencer
Yeh. It is considered a project and not a pseudonym. Not married to
any traditional line-up, method or sound, Yeh's eclecticism separates
him from his peers. BxC will be appearing live throughout the first
half of 2007, including a tour of US and Canada with Carlos Giffoni
and Prurient, a weekend of festivals in Germany, a collaborative appearance
with Zaimph at No Fun Fest 2007, and other individual events.

Campbell, Glen
Best of The Glen Campbell Music Show (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE FEBRUARY 20TH)
PS, UK The best of 3 performances in the early 70's - the peak of Campbell's
career. This DVD represents the best performances from a string of concerts
filmed by Ember in the early 70s - the peak of Campbell's career. The
first was a recording of a show at The Talk Of The Town in '72, then
through '75 Campbell six TV shows broadcast by the BBC. Backed by his
then regular band and the BBC Concert Orchestra, Campbell performed
live his greatest hits plus other favorite songs of his choosing. The
performances are brilliant, the backing very tight, the sound recording
excellent, and all filmed in gloriously gaudy 1970s color schemes. This
includes his best known hits and interesting covers. Song Titles: Dream
Baby, By The Time I Get To Phoenix, Mary In The Morning, Try A Little

The band's debut album 'Failures And Sparks' was well-received by music
writers, who have compared The Chrysler's enigmatic, bonfire folk and
baroque, jangling pop to The Byrds, Neil Young, Simon & Garfunkel,
Nick Drake, The Band, Belle & Sebastian, The Velvet Underground,
Lambchop, and Norway's Kings Of Convenience. Guest appearances by Laakso
vocalist Martin Krunnegard and Swedish songstress Britta Person. As
with their debut album 'Failures And Sparks', released in late-2005

Sharp Teeth (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE FEBRUARY 20TH)
PS, US A compelling exploration of moral ambiguity & perhaps-unavoidable
human disconnection, suggesting modern
American folk music in the Southern tradition: often deathly slow, like
life in the South, and haunted by religion- but unable to find
answers in its Bible. The sounds of the South appear as well; Nashville's
slide guitars, nods to Dixieland Jazz, drums, horns, choirs &
epic string arrangements take their places in songs that, despite their
grand scale, manage to be concise & immediate, conveying a
distinct love of pop music.

Diagram Brothers
Some Marvels of Modern Science + Singles (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE FEBRUARY
20TH )
PS, UK 24 tracks. Digitally remastered from the original studio tapes,
Some Marvels of Modern Science + Singles features 24 tracks and runs
for 74 minutes. In addition to all 14 tracks from their 1981 album on
the New Hormones label (founded by Buzzcocks), the CD also features
ten bonus tracks from all four singles released between 1980 and 1982,
including the cult favourites Bricks and Discordo, as well as the ultra-rare
Diagram Brothers German EP. Often compared to XTC, Gang of Four and
Fire Engines in their day, The Diagram Brothers invented and defined
their sound 'discordo' as follows: "The music was made to a strict
formula, or set of rules. All the guitar chords were based on discordant
notes, all the beats were very simple rock or disco, and all the words
very straightforward and down to earth." Some Marvels Of Modern
Science drew warm reviews on release in 1981: "The Diagram Brothers
play an extraordinary, quirky, jerky brand of speedo funk, as if some
Pavlovian behaviourist has got hold of The Gang of Four and started
to do tricky experiments on them... Science before sentience, the didactic
before the ecstatic seems to be the unusual anti-rock n' roll idea...
This is an album of observations which are never dull, and of music
which - in spite of being clinical - is never cold. I quite warm to
this kind of off-beat fun and to the proof that the English eccentric
spirit needn't necessarily take twee grown-up public schoolboy forms."
(NME). The CD booklet features a deluxe 16 pages booklet featuring facsimile
artwork and detailed liner notes.

produced some of the most notable shoegazing dream pop to come out of
the United States. Their brand new effort, We Live Now, is perhaps the
acclaimed San Francisco group's heaviest sounding release to date with
nods to late '60s and early '70s interstellar boogie rock spliced into
the heady mix. With praise coming from discerning music magazines like
The Big Takeover, Skyscraper, Losing Today and Ptolemaic Terrascope,
it is no wonder that audiences leave Dora Flood's shows feeling that
they witnessed something of a secret, psychedelic phenomenon. These
live close encounters, as well as their classic studio work, leave listeners

Copia (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE FEBRUARY 20TH)
PS, US Following a string of increasingly remarkable albums, ELUVIUM's
MATTHEW COOPER set out to broaden his instrumental palette, while maintaining
the uncanny emotional resonance that has become his trademark. The result
is "Copia", an hour-long epic that applies Eluvium's heartache-inducing
ether to a symphony of strings, brass, keyboards and piano. Noticeably
absent but hardly missed are the washes of guitars that color most of
Eluvium's previous material. The deliberate exclusion of traditional
rock instrumentation serves as sufficient proof that the instrument
is not Eluvium's driving force. At best it is a catalyst, a vehicle
to that netherworld in the back of your head, where your life starts
to uncontrollably reevaluate itself.

Future Conditional
We Don't Just Disappear (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE APRIL 3RD)
PS, UK Future Conditional is the all-new electro-pop project from Piano
Magic mainstays Glen Johnson and Cedric Pin. Drawing inspiration from
classic analog synth-pop by the likes of New Order, Kraftwerk, OMD and
Section 25, the album We Don't Just Disappear updates the retro-futurist
mix with a stellar selection of guest vocalists, including Melanie Pain
(Nouvelle Vague), Bobby Wratten (Field Mice/Trembling Blue Stars), Angele
David-Guillou (Klima/Piano Magic), Carolyn Allen (The Wake) and Dan
Matz (Windsor for the Derby). The 10-track album was produced by Glen
and Cedric in 2006. Standout tracks include Switchboard Girl (sung by
Melanie), Broken Robots (sung by Angele) and the title track, featuring
Bobby. "Future Conditional isn't just an exercise in nostalgia.
We are, in some way paying homage to the groups we love and inspire
us, but we're also experimenting with the glacial electro/human emotional
interface. The future is a robot with a human heart." (Glen Johnson).
Piano Magic will release their new album Part-Monster in May 2007, and
featured vocalist Angele will release an album as Klima on Peacefrog
in March. Windsor for the Derby contributed to the soundtrack of the
latest Sofia Coppola film Marie Antoinette, and Trembling Blue Stars
also release a new album in spring 2007. Busy people!

Giant Skkyflower Band
Blood of the Sunworm (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 13TH)
PS, US During a sabbatical from regular duties in THE SKYGREEN LEOPARDS,
Glenn Donaldson (never one to rest) dreamt of Giant Skyflower Band,
an exotic, flowery and crumbling new recording project with nods to
fruity new age, psych, prog, folk, and pop songwriting. Donaldson quickly
invited multiinstrumentalist Shayde Sartin to "smoke marijuana
& make up strange pop songs, " and thus the band was born.
With Gong's seminal "Magick Brother" as a starting point and
a sitar close at hand, the duo created a dark, peregrine pop transmission
from their shoddy analog recording studio in San Francisco. The duo's
debut offering examines in detail the idiom of Bummer Psych; the strain
of damaged Anglo-pop music pioneered by Syd Barrett that arguably reached
its apex with The Television Personalities' "Painted Word"
LP in the mid-80's, but found new life in Japan via the genius of Tori
Kudo and like-minded acts such as Nagisa Ni Te and Tenniscoats. Indeed,
Blood of the Sunworm consists of depressing pop songs and damaged instrumentals
- teeth bared and falling apart as they are cobbled together - on a
hazy, cryptic journey through a busted kaleidoscope, behind a dusty
mirror & up through the rafters.

Room To Expand (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE FEBRUARY 20TH)
PS, US The alias of Dusseldorf-based pianist/composer Volker Bertelmann,
whose work is based upon an exploration of the possibilities of the
"prepared" piano. Volker explores & influences the outcome
of his playing by getting right down inside the instrument- clamping
wedges of leather, felt or rubber between the strings; preparing the
hammers with aluminium paper or rough films; or weaving guitar strings
around the piano's guts. The resulting tracks are composed both originally
& charmingly, forming vivid, unconventional pieces made through
what Volker terms a playful "research-enthusiasm," much informed
by modern electronica or Indonesian gamelan as it is by any classical
cannon.

Haysi Fantayzee
Battle Hymns for Children Singing: The Best of Haysi Fantayzee (PRE-ORDER:
SALEABLE FEBRUARY 20TH)
PS, UK Haysi Fantayzee were formed in 1981 by fashion photographer Kate
Garner, former Animal Magnet member Paul Caplin and Jeremy Healy, a
well known face on London's club scene. Together they set about injecting
a sense of fun and adventure into the music scene, wearing outlandish,
self designed costumes and dreadlocks, and writing songs that married
sexual subversion with deliberately disposable and cocksure dayglo pop.
Their 'Dickensian Rasta' look was an immediate hit and saw their debut
single 'John Wayne Is Big Leggy' rise to number 11 in the national charts.
In their brief career they would also enjoy chart success with 'Holy
Joe' and 'Shiny Shiny'. All three hits are reprised on this CD, as is
their sole album, Battle Hymns For Children Singing. The package also
features a host of bonus tracks, remixes, and sleevenotes written with
the co-operation of both Healy and Garner. The former went on to become
one of the UK's most successful DJs, while the latter is an accomplished
and in-demand photographer for artists including Sinead O'Connor, Bjork,
David Bowie and others.

hitherto unheard in their halcyon days. The acoustic flavor of "Beet,

All of which lends the gospel truth to the Llamas traditional group
profile of piano, bass & drums w/ vibes, organ & a bit of gut-string
acoustic for good measure. After all the planning & arrangements,
it's a happy record, as happy as we are today.

Superlocalhellfreakride (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE FEBRUARY 20TH)
PS, US BILL TAFT and WILL FRATESI are luminaries of Atlanta's indie

tenure as the rickety percussionist behind such lonely and urbane Southern
specters as CAT POWER and TENEMENT HALLS culminates in HUBCAP CITY with
slow, serpentine miasma. "Superlocalhellfreakride" is a guided
tour through Atlanta's underbelly; a survey of the acoustics found in
its burned-out buildings, graveyards and long-abandoned mills. The humid
ghosts of Hubcap City's ancestors, including Smoke, the Jody Grind and
Atlanta's seminal Destroy All Music Festivals in the 1980s all echo
in these folkish dirges of melody and noise. With each lazy and uplifting
honk of the horn over a clatter of strings and metal the group pushes
the old weird Atlanta into deeper and higher levels of beautiful imprisonment,
and the only way out is through.

Worley (vocals, keys, guitars, laptop). Alan and Scott met in Portland,OR
circa '04, and started writing the songs that would slowly form into
the mish-mash of cables, circuits, ivory and alcohol known as Jatun.
They began recording their self-titled debut album in September 2005,
and it's been engineered/mixed by Scott & Alan and mastered by Carl
Saff. The first recorded Jatun song was "Ion Crush," which
was featured in a Nike SB promo video for the Zoom Tre shoe and is also
featured on the Signal Snowboards webpage. The songs "Ghost and
Grey", and "The Temptation of Joy" have been used by
Norwegian company Helly Hansen, accompanying snowboard and ski team
imagery on two videos. Additionaly the video clips are being used on
the Helly Hansen website as a part of their HHTV program. Influenced
by an expansive range of artists, genres and styles, Alan and Scott
have learned to interpret and appreciate sound from a broad perspective.
Such open ears have facilitated an understanding of sonic interplay,
and acute attention to arrangement and detail. Armed to the teeth with
an arsenal of quality, vintage gear and a penchant for capturing the
resultant noises, they craft music thoroughly and thoughtfully. Lush,
enveloping and hyper-textured, Jatun's songs blanket themselves around

tones. For Fans Of: Morr Music, 4AD, Warp, Anticon, Temporary Residence

Jawbone
S/T (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE FEBRUARY 27TH)
PS, UK Jawbone was born from the ashes of The Mirage and Turquoise,
two of the UK's greatest cult pop-psych bands (and both recently anthologized
on RPM and Rev-Ola respectively) and their lone 1970 album rounds off
their stories perfectly. They were thrown together after guitarist Ray
Glynn and drummer Dave Hynes decided to re-form The Mirage after a short
stint in The Spencer Davis Group came to an end in 1969 (they appear
on the excellent "Short Change" single and ill-fated Funky
album). Vocalist Pete Hynes and former bassist Dee Murray was swiftly
poached for Elton John's band so they recruited keyboard player and
former Mirage sidekick/songwriter Kirk Duncan who called up another
former colleague, Jeff "Gus" Peters of the recently defunct
Turquoise to handle bass duties. Dave Hynes secured the band a deal
with Merv Cohn's newly minted Carnaby label and they changed their name
to The Portebello (sic) Explosion for a single coupling the dreamy,
Beatlesque pop-sike of "We Can Fly" and a tough, hard-edged
cover of Bubble Puppy's minor US hit "Hot Smoke And Sassafras".
The single went nowhere but album sessions began regardless in late
1969 with the re-recording of three old Mirage tunes - "How's Ya
Pa?", "Chicago Cottage" and "Jeremiah Dreams"
(mis-titled "Jeremiah's Dream" on the eventual album), a suitably
demented re-working of their unreleased 1967 psychedelic opus "Ebeneezer
Beaver". When "How's Ya Pa?" was released as a single
in early 1970, it was credited to yet another new moniker, Jawbone.
Typically for this period, Dave Hynes had become obsessed by The Band
and set about remodeling the group in their image. Consequently, titles
like "Honeysuckle Redwood Cabin", "Homestead" and
"Mister Custer" came thick and fast, bearing the distinct
influences of The Band and The Byrds.

Lewis, Wyndham
The Enemy Speaks (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE APRIL 2ND)
PS, UK The first CD audiobook of readings by Percy Wyndham Lewis (1882-1957),
the influential British modernist writer, artist and self-styled 'Enemy'
feted both by T.S. Eliot and Mark E. Smith. Lewis is best known as the
founder in 1914 of the celebrated Vorticist art movement, an English
variant of Italian Futurism. Publication of their journal Blast was
interrupted by WW1, after which Lewis the artist pursued a parallel
career as a writer of fiction, satire and criticism. Lewis spent the
war years 1939-45 in penniless exile in America , yet carried on writing
even after going blind in 1951. His many books include Tarr (1918),
The Apes of God (1930), Blasting & Bombardiering (1937), The Revenge
for Love (1937) and the trilogy The Human Age. His artworks include
Workshop (1913), A Battery Shelled (1919), Tyro (1920) Red Portrait
(1937), The Surrender of Barcelona (1937) and Portrait of T.S. Eliot
(1938), and are regularly exhibited by galleries including the Tate,
Hayward, Imperial War Museum and others. The Enemy Speaks gathers together
rare broadcast recordings made by Lewis in 1938, 1947 and 1951 on various
subjects in art and politics, as well as readings of three poems from
One-Way Song, recorded at Harvard in 1940. The CD also features a dramatized
extract from his Bloomsbury-baiting satire The Apes of God, recorded
in 1951 with an introduction by the critic V.S. Pritchett. The CD closes
with the recording of Sympathy that so vexed Lieutenant Lewis in his
dug-out near Ypres in 1917. The CD features a deluxe booklet featuring
archive Lewis images as well as historical notes by James Hayward. The
CD has been prepared with the full co-operation of the Wyndham Lewis

PS, US Ritchie Youngs solo recording project. EP complies live performances
from 2003-2006, ranging from Young by himself to a ten-person band.
During this time, many different recording sessions took place in various

tells of a terrible life of unfortunate circumstances. Even the old
Scottish folk song from which Loch Lomond takes its name is the story
of a broken heart & the springtime weather that does nothing to
heal it. It works, though, because Youngs voice-with its gloomy, morose
manner-needs the subhuman relief that noise readily provides. Ultimately
it is a record wallowing in its own despair as much as it is a record
that took great, inspired care to make-and its definitely a record to
avoid after a breakup." -Rolling Stone

Lonely Girl (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE FEBRUARY 27TH)
PS, UK Yes the girl who single handedly launched the Torch Singer genre...and
opened the door for every imperfect but sexy vocalist since..... The
most remarkable thing about Julie London is remarkable indeed: that
she used her erotic persona not so much to interpret songs as to change
the nature of them to become something other than when sung by anyone
else. She used her breathy, sexy, sultry voice not to sing a version
of a song that could compete with someone else's on a scale of good
to better to best, but to change it's meaning. This, her second album,
carries on from where her first left off...soft eroticism and single
entendre...songs of yearning and loneliness in Julie's own bedroom whisper...just
try to resist! The acclaim and success enjoyed by our issue of her first
album legendary "Julie Is Her Name" tells you all you need

Low Low Low La La La Love Love Love
Ends of June (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE APRIL 3rd)
PS, US Initially intended as musical outlet for Kelly Dyson, Low Low
Low La La La Love Love Love's full inception came in the form of a sudden,
unplanned collaboration between Kelly and vocalist Natalia Brightmore.
Instant musical chemistry coupled with a brief period of writing &
recording yielded a complete body of bittersweet, forthright folk songs,
self-released on the band's own Birds and Rodents label (UK) in 2004.
Two years later, after randomly stumbling upon some breathtaking Low
Low clips online, Portland, OR label Other Electricities realized there
was something unique brewing overseas. The band with the impossibly
long name occupied space in their ears and repeated listens only further
reinforced the fascination. The two parties eventually got to talking
and came to the conclusion that this music needed to reach a wider audience;
these sounds just couldn't be slept on much longer. Ends of June is
Low Low's second outing and first U.S. release, boasting twelve new,
intimate tracks saturated in the same undeniable warmth and familiarity
offered on their debut. Here, the music's immediacy and accessibility
fails to wane even slightly, building upon the solid groundwork laid
in the first album. Natalia's amicable departure and a change in line-up,
currently featuring Kelly Dyson (guitar, lead vocals), Ellis Dyson (drums,
clarinet, percussion), Chris Robinson (guitar, vocals), Hugo Edwardes
(bass), Nick Guy (vocals, percussion), and Brian Lutchmiah (vocals,
percussion), has filled out Low Low now more of a band then an "acoustic
folk duo". Despite these alterations, no element of overall sound
is compromised as new paths are traversed with regards to instrumentation
and arrangement. Self recorded and produced in Ellis' bedroom studio,
Ends of June showcases Low Low's progressive and deft grasp on songwriting.
From the pensive yet infectious "The Way You Play," to the
fluid lullaby "Happiness at the New Day," it's near-impossible
to deny the resultant intrigue of each composition, and of the record
as a whole. These songs beckon to be taken in again and again... Collectively,
the band members live and work in and around Manchester, England. To
date, they have shared stages with the likes of Regina Spektor and Six
Organs of Admittance. Plans are currently being made for a re-master/reissue
of Low Low's s/t debut, which should be available in wider release mid-2007.
"As acoustic documents of the breakdown of a long-term relationships
go, this is up there. Recorded lo-fi style - in a bedroom apparently
- this affecting release combines breathless harmonies and fragile tunes
to achieve a strange warmth. Also makes Belle & Sebastian sound
like Motorhead." - The Crack "Rooted firmly in the world of
low/no-fi folk, this is a charming record that recalls the same juxtaposition
of fragility and strength of character that suffused the early Elliott
Smith albums." - Tangents. For Fans Of: Devendra Banhart, Iron

Low Low Low La La La Love Love Love
S/T (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 6TH)
PS, US Low Low formed in March 2004 when Kelly Dyson met Natalia Brightmore
in the George over a pint, two days after he'd split from his long-time
partner and moved from Carlisle to Buxton with a handful of songs. The
pair clicked and work began on turning Kelly's rough acoustic songs
into rough acoustic songs with a female harmony. The album was quite
a sparse thing for the main part, though Ellis Dyson expanded a few
tracks with drums and electric guitars. The process from there was pretty
quick - the album was polished (to Low Low's standards) within a few
months was released on the *Birds and the Rodents Label (UK)*. Through
their earnest, stripped-down approach to song writing, Low Low taps
into your head and heart before you've even noticed; and by then it's
too late to turn back (not that you'd want to anyway). The vulnerability
and undeniable necessity of love, loss, heartache and hopefulness abounds
in each affected lyric, and is further evoked by every subtle bend and
pull. "As acoustic documents of the breakdown of a long-term relationships

- this affecting release combines breathless harmonies and fragile tunes
to achieve a strange warmth. Also makes Belle & Sebastian sound

Medicine Head
New Bottles, Old Medicine (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE FEBRUARY 20TH)
PS, UK When, in early 1970, legendary Radio 1 DJ John Peel ventured
up to Wolverhampton's Lafayette club to do a gig, he came upon two guys
who called themselves Medicine Head, the uniquely configured duo of
John Fiddler and Peter Hope-Evans. So impressed was Peel that he signed
Medicine Head to his label, Dandelion Records and later that year released
"New Bottles, Old Medicine" the 1st of three studio albums
that Medicine Head would release on the revered label. The walrus-mustached
Fiddler would simultaneously sing, play guitar and operate a bass drum
and hi-hat cymbal with his foot, augmented by the equally hirsute Hope-Evans
on harmonica, jaws harp, mouth bow and strange concoctions of percussion.
More art school than rock'n'roll, Medicine Head wrote poetic, spiritual,
thoughtful, folk-rock tunes that have stood the test of time. Now the
band's debut album can be enjoyed again as Cherry Red Records continues
it's program of re-releasing classic albums from the Dandelion catalogue.

of self-indulgence w/ most bands, the resulting record here offers a
fresh & varied look into a band that has sadly been reduced to the
more pop corners of the earth. They have much more in common w/ chronic
noise masters in Dalek than you might think: their records are frequently
steeped in atmospherics & peppered w/ some serious prog-rock tendencies.

Blackwing Yalobusha (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 6TH)
PS, US North Carolina-based garage-blues duo decided to revisit their
Mississippi roots & record their latest album with former Squirrel
Nut Zippers founder & producer Jimbo Mathus. Amid the thousand-pound
heat the female duo churned out a slow burning collection of songs that
chant & spit their way through the spirit world of the old south.
The songs tell tall tales of barstool black belts & monkey tongues
while tuned-down slide guitar tumbles through the delta landscapes of
Faulkner & O'Connor.

Follow This House (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 6TH)
PS, US Perhaps appropriately, Follow This House was recorded following
a European tour in a state of profound limbic haze and completed and
finalized during the unforgettable heat wave of July 2006. These facts
make a whole lot of sense since Follow This House sounds like your entire
record collection melting in the trunks of a hundred junkyard cars on
a hazy, steamy, sweltering hot summer afternoon. Follow This House by
Mouthus is a companion piece to their 2005 full length for Important
titled The Long Salt. Picking up right where The Long Salt left off,
Follow This House is a record chock full of manic bad mood energy, crunching
resin-soaked jams and hundred year old instrumentation emerging from
the soggy mire only to be slowly pushed back in by poison clouds of
delayed-out vocal groan. Mouthus are on a stated mission to incorporate
new sounds and new instrumentation into their recordings. Never repeating
themselves Follow This House is less fractured and more minimal, embracing
the Mouthus sludgefest like a settling foundation.

Nico
All Tomorrow's Parties: Nico Live (2 shows on one double album) (PRE-ORDER:
SALEABLE FEBRUARY 20TH)
PS, UK One of the most fascinating figures of rock's fringes, Nico hobnobbed,
worked, and was romantically linked with an incredible assortment of
the most legendary entertainers of the '60s. Nico first rose to fame
as a European supermodel, also landing a bit part in Fellini's La Dolce
Vita film. In the mid- 1960's she moved to New York, where Andy Warhol
installed her as a vestigial presence and occasional lead singer for
the Velvet Underground. The band never really accepted her as a bona
fide member and she departed in 1967, but not before contributing unforgettable
deadpan vocals to three of the songs on their classic 1967 debut album.
Nico embarked on a solo career, recording folk-rock-flavored songs for
her debut Chelsea Girl album with assistance from Jackson Browne, Lou
Reed, and John Cale. Her 1969 follow-up, The Marble Index, was a dramatic
departure that unveiled her doomladen, gothic persona, produced by Cale
and prominently featuring her deep vocals, impenetrable lyrics, and
ghostly harmonium. Her subsequent '70s albums explored much the same
territory, with assistance from Cale and influential art rockers like
Brian Eno. She fought a constant struggle with a massive drug habit
and tangled personal life and eventually died of a cerebral hemorrhage
in Ibiza in 1988. The original goth rocker, Nico's albums are demanding
and bleak, but map a unique and starkly powerful vision that has become
more influential with age. - A brand new, previously unreleased double-album
featuring 2 shows from one of the great all-time rock music icons -
Nico. - All Tomorrow's Parties" features extremely rare material
from two shows Nico played in the UK in the early 1980's.

A Double Gift of Tongues (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE FEBRUARY 20TH)
PS, US CHRIS BARTH re-emerges with "A Double Gift Of Tongues"
to share once again NORMANOAK's mysterious fibrillation of heart and
lung. Unbound from his share of duties with THE IMPOSSIBLE SHAPES, Barth
chronicles a world "of acorns, blood, and sacrifice; of the holy
hexagram of intertwined triangles; of the holy books writ in the sands
of madness; Of the language behind language and the seeds of the unspeakable."
Barth's ability to chew up, unbuckle, and alternate between sanguine
sanctity and life's whimsical playfulness has never shown itself in
a purer light than throughout the 14 song landscape of this limited
vinyl release. Fans of the inwardly mobile mysticism of DONOVAN or the
soul damaged guitar skree of GEORGE BRIGMAN's "Jungle Rot"
in its most minimal state should book their ticket to "A Double

Olvis
Bravado (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE FEBRUARY 20TH)
PS, UK Third album from Icelandic maverick Orlygur Thor Orlygsson, following
last year's much-adored second full length "The Blue Sound"
and the previous year's eponymous debut. Continuing the linear progression
evident from first album to second, "Bravado" raises the bar
further, with an equal split between lush instrumentals and hypnotic
full vocal tracks (in his native tongue). With comparisons and appeal
across the board, from chillout to Richard Hawley, Olvis' music defies
classification, but ultimately has a heartwarming, relaxing, all-encompassing
feel that renders pigeonholing unnecessary. As with "The Blue Sound",
"Bravado" features the A-list of Reykjavik musicians as a
supporting cast within its fourteen tracks: SIGUR ROS drummer Orri Dyrason
plays drums on four tracks, with fellow SIGUR ROS member Georg Holm
playing bass on two tracks, along with percussion and drums on three
tracks from APPARAT ORGAN QUARTET's Arnar Geir Omarsson and violin from
Maria Huld Markan Sigfusdottir from AMINA (Sigur Ros' string quartet)
on one track. The whole album was written and produced by Orlygsson
himself, and was recorded mainly at Sigur Ros' Sundlaugin studio during
the fall of 2005, and lyrically touches upon Orlygur's disillusionment
with global capitalism and US hegemony - not that you'd know it, unless
you speak Icelandic.

Good To Be a Stranger (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 13th)
PS, SPAIN The enigmatic five piece band formed in Glasgow have released
some of the finest pop songs of their generation since humble beginnings
in Penilee, a suburb of the city, where the three founder members grew
up and started the band in 1986. Their first six singles and three albums
were met with widespread critical acclaim, much of this from out-with
the UK. They graduated from the gentle lo-fi craft of their first album,
Lyceum, in 1989 ("A minor classic - don't let is pass you by"
said NME) through to the ground breaking and progressive sounds of their
third, aptly titled, Striving For The Lazy Perfection ("lithe,
evocative and memorable music" - M M) in 1994 with "sixth
member" Ian Carmichael of One Dove at the studio controls. In the
intervening years they released Unholy Soul in 1991 ("Sarah Records
answer to the Beach Boys Pet Sounds") and some truly original singles
& EPs that, in keeping with a stance sometimes perceived as awkward
and single minded, were always kept apart from album projects. The ethos
was always more about value for money for their fans than genuine stubbornness,
however. The singles included what many believe to be the high point
of their career to date, Something For The Longing as well as final
single Thaumaturgy in 1993. Reformed in 2004 after a break of Paddy
McAloon proportions they are now ready to take another swipe at the
tedious world of the music business with an album that takes them back
to their musical roots. Recorded at Riverside Studios, home to other
better known homegrown acts such as Travis, Teenage Fanclub and Trash
Can Sinatras, their new record Good To Be A Stranger is a fabulous collection
of new songs that will feed the hungry appetite of the fan base that
has grown over the intervening years. Ahead of their time in the early
90's, it is only now that many have realised how fascinating and mature
those earlier releases were. Good To Be A Stranger is released on Madrid
based label Siesta on --- March 2007 and the band will be heading out
to play live gigs for the first time in twelve years to promote the
new release - nothing like keeping your fans waiting! Offers of gigs
in the UK, Sweden, Spain, France, Germany, Greece, Singapore and the
USA illustrate how the World Wide Web has allowed their global reputation
to grow. Later in 2007, a cover of The Go Betweens' song Magic In Here
will also appear on a Grant McLennan tribute album, Love Goes On, released
on USA's Rare Victory Records. You can also currently hear one of the
new songs Down To The Ocean on Siesta Records compilation Erre Que Erre.
"The best Scottish pop band since Orange Juice" - Melody Maker
"A blissful mix of the best Scottish bands of the last few years"
- NME" "Eclectic. Every single song is a gem" - Exclaim
"Luxuriant textures, immaculate pop fizz with enviable purpose"
- MM "Songs of emotional wit and sparkling indie pop" - All

PS, US An amazing debut that is just the first stone of the sonic monolith
they're going to build step by step. In this first recording, their
musical influences (Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Melvins, Earth, Sleep)

minimalism, feedback, distortion and end-less drones creating a primitive
trance inducing atmosphere. Feat. one exclusive bonus track- cover of

between Procol Harum, The Moody Blues and West Coast Psychedelia, and
'Epic Forest' is one of the masterpieces of progressive rock (file under

Robins, Marty
Rockin' Robins (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE FEBRUARY 27TH)
PS, UK Marty Robbins was a wildly popular and innovative Arizona-born
country singer and guitarist who dominated the Billboard Country charts
for 30 years between 1953 and 1983, scoring such chart-topping hits
as "Singing The Blues", "A White Sport Coat", "Don't
Worry", "Devil Woman" and the epic "El Paso".
Robbins even outdid in some ways even Johnny Cash, producing the acclaimed
'concept' albums of Gunfighter Ballads for which he is best remembered.
Marty Robbins Joined The Grand Ole Opry in 1953 and hosted his own TV
show in the 1970s before dying prematurely in 1982 (aged 57). This compilation
concentrates on the brief period between 1954 and 1957 when he took
on Elvis and the early rockabillies with some sparkling country rockers
which graced a fistful of cool US Columbia 45s and an iconic 10"
LP. Tracks include his country covers of Elvis' "That's All Right"
(#7 1955), Chuck's "Maybelline" (#9 1955) and his peerless
originals of "Singing The Blues" (#1 1956), "I Can't
Quit" (#7 1956) and "Knee Deep In The Blues" (#3 1957).
And a slew of live outbursts of Rockin' mania you won't believe! As
one might expect of a man who not only prefigured Nick Cave but introduced
the fuzztone guitar to the pop world (in 1961!) this is seriously rocking
stuff....a new discovery for some, and bound to garner some serious
column inches!

Weisse Westen, Dreck Am Stecken (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE APRIL 10TH)
PS, US LIMITED TO 200. I once saw an interview with the members of Nirvana
talking about when they toured with Shonen Knife and would cry every
night while they watched their set out of sheer joy and unrivaled beauty.
I didn't think much about it or even try to understand that feeling
until my band played a festival in Sweden last year and the Rough Bunnies
played right before us. Hailing from Malmo, this duo (with occasional
guests) encapsulates a sense of innocence, joy, confusion and real youth
style feelings and communicates them in a way so honestly it's hard
to look away, whether or not you like the music. All the elements of
ameturish-yet-immediate songwriting and musicianship that go into the
songs of the Rough Bunnies could illicit comparisons to bands that came
before with a similar vibe; the Velvet Underground, Beat Happening,
the Vaselines, Moldy Peaches, Shonen Knife, et al.. but paying attention
and really getting to know the group, you come to understand that they're
not just another band that SOUNDS like those lifechanging, unsung, widely
overlooked and underrated groups, nor are they trying to coyly mimic
that feeling. The Rough Bunnies are the next band on that page of history,
a beautiful and amazing, if dog-eared and tea stained page. This LP
is their first, following three extremely limited CDRs available

Smack Dab
S/T (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 6TH)
PS, SPAIN Steve Wynn's (Dream Sydicate) new album! Do coincidences happen?
If you think about the film "Los amantes del Círculo Polar",
you will possibly say yes. And if somebody tells you the story of Smack
Dab you will never stop thinking about "Los amantes del Círculo
Polar". Perhaps Julio Medem should direct a video for this new
band formed by Steve Wynn, Paco Loco and Linda Pitmon. The factual trio
of 2006. 2004, a beach in Cadiz, a hot summer day. Out from the water
comes Paco Loco, one of the icons of Spanish indie music in the nineties,
musician and producer of Australian Blonde, Nacho Vegas, Cosmic Rough
Riders and Josh Rouse, among many others. He sees a man sitting on the
beach, all dressed in black, boots and coat included! A peculiar guy.
Paco doesn't care. He dries himself, puts his glasses on, gets the magazine
he brought to the beach to read and... he's amazed. On the cover of
the magazine there is a photograph of the guy who sits next to him,
the one who dresses in black and reads a novel by George Pelícanos.
It's Steve Wynn, the leader of The Dream Syndicate and Gütterball,
the star of classic underground rock of the last twenty years! That
very moment, a woman emerges from the water and lays on the towel beside
Steve. It's Linda Pitmon, his girlfriend, drummer of Golden Smog and
of Wynn's backing band (The Miracle 3). It's a tiny world. Paco wants
to say hello. But in 2004 he doesn't speak English yet. Luckily, or
coincidentally, Steve speaks some broken Spanish. They meet for lunch.
A friendship is born and from that friendship comes the idea of recording
an album between the three of them. It was the kind of recording session
made for pleasure and fun. With no business yearning. Two weeks of experimenting
and jamming in a relaxed mood. A year and a half passed, and Steve and
Linda threw a party. Coincidentally they played these songs. It was
a riot. Everybody danced, everybody congratulated them, it was clear
to everybody that they had to release the album. They kept an ace up
their sleeve and it had been accumulating dust for a year! Straight
away, they rang John Agnello (Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr., The Kills)
for him to do the mixing. And he's done an a-m-a-z-i-n-g job. Each song
in the album works in an individual way. From one of them, California
says hello with narcotic fuzz face, in another one it's New York's mirror
ball and disco sound, before we get assaulted by an almost sweet soul
music cover of Three Dog Nit's "Never Been To Spain". A song
that climbed to number one in the US charts in the early seventies.
Curiously enough (or should we say coincidentally?) the first record
Steve Wynn bought in his life was "It Ain't Easy", by this
Californian band. "Smack Dab" is a driving and emphatic album,
one that connects with the spirit of comradeship that was unique of
the Los Angeles scene in the early eighties. This comradeship allows
the main characters to let themselves go, be it to twist their style
guide or to do the same old thing. Whether they knock us out in a surprising
way or with well-known weapons, you will always find them relaxed and
daring. An example of the first would be "I'm Not Listening":
even though Wynn has always placed himself on the crossroads run by
the feedback guitar flow of the Velvet Underground, it's always regarding
to see how he jumps into a new pool and puts Lou Reed on the dance floor.
On the second, "My Cross To Bear": you feel you're back in
1993 again, in front of Gütterball, the super-group leaded by Steve
that gave high-intensity garage rock a good name. In short: 1) Mr. Wynn
shows, (again!) why The Strokes should hire him as their Classic Underground
Rock instructor. He knows how to draw life from each record, there is
life after that debut, boys! 2) Paco Loco has managed to rise to the
occasion; 3) the sticks and percussion of Linda Pitmon make the guitars
dance, shooting them with an intravenous rhythm in the hips. In short
again: It wouldn't be fair to say that this is just an attractive quirk
record. Because it's one of the best recordings in the careers of these
three artists, and that is saying enough. Even though, like we said
before, it all happened by coincidence, like so many of the great lovers'
stories.

Small Sails
Similar Anniversaries (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 6TH)
PS, US Small Sails is a music and film making collective from Portland,
Oregon. The music is a gorgeous post-electronic tribal thing and the
films are performed live at their shows using original reel-to-reel
footage and dual projectors. A field of dandelions plowed over, inner-city
kids jumping double-dutch in gritty streets, birds and waterfalls, playground
vocals, clicky electronics and warm, spacey melodies - that's what Small
Sails looks and sounds like. Small Sails are a busy bunch - having toured
extensively - performing almost 100 shows in North America in 2006.
They're deeply loved in Portland, where they've shared the stage with
kindred souls such as Deerhoof, Styrofoam, The Helio Sequence, Her Space
Holiday and Mice Parade. Their new music is different, too: chanting,
humming vocals hint at tangibility while remaining half-submerged; rhythms
are a baby-bouncing jumble of eclectic percussion and twittering electronics;
and achingly gorgeous melodies get stripped down to the still-gleaming
bone. To experience Small Sails' live show is to become immersed in
a seemingly unparalleled rhythm and energy. The visual and sonic interplay
are hypnotic and their on-stage chemistry and fluidity are nothing short
of warm and inviting. Through their unique, multi-faceted coaxing of
the senses, they create an environment that commands undivided attention
and adoration. Reviews for Small Sails: Fans of like-minded souls the
Books and Prefuse 73 will find cuddly tunes here, as the pastel-hued
instrumentals float by with breezy ease. - San Francisco Weekly Small
Sails is a full-on pop machine with half-chanted vocals over tight percussion,
bass-heavy beats, and micro-condensed indiepop riffs. - Portland Mercury.
The words are sparse and nonsensical, but somehow such ambiguity is
what helps make Small Sails so compelling, both on record and in person.
- San Francisco Bay Guardian Small Sails sounds at once instantly familiar
and strangely foreign. - Ithaca Times.

Sneaky Thieves
Accident(s) (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 6TH)
PS, US Sneaky Thieves are a Seattle-based band that formed in 2003,
comprised of two loving sets of brothers and a good friend; Robert Bale
(bass/samples), Freddy Bale (vocals/acoustic guitar/keys), Darby McDevitt
(electric guitar/keys), Brendan McDevitt (drums) and Bryant Moore (electric
guitar/keys). Live, they juxtapose many sounds, flashing from abrasive
and clashing, to mellow and heartfelt. Influenced by many of life's
pretty things, they construct music incidentally and without undue stress.
Their debut release, accident(s), was recorded after a car wreck settlement
came many years too late to do any real good. So, a small, tidy amount
of money was set aside and used to create an album with local producer
Jeramy Koepping (founding member of Voyager One, producer for Asahi,
Jen Wood, Kinski) in the lovely Park Place Studio. This record is the
essence of those sad, peculiar moments of a life disjointed. The tracks
on accident(s) are based on recurring themes that appear very often
in dreams and nightmares. Many refer to struggles with substance abuse,
addiction, and vague recollections of difficult histories. Ultimately,
this album is a musical response to the constant loose ends of life
- trying to sonically replicate the "bellyache" in the middle
of the night. Praise for accident(s): "A thoughtful and minimalist
epic indie charmer..." - Treblezine "Think of the feeling
you get when alone and awake late at night you start to ponder the inevitability
of your own death and your helplessness to stop it. The fear. The chill.
Moments on this album capture that feeling perfectly, especially with
headphones. In fact, the Sneaky Thieves are extremely gifted at capturing
and even more so at creating moods and emotion." - Spacelab. RIYL:
Nick Cave, Will Oldham, Bedhead, Talk Talk. "Thumbs up" -
CMJ New Music Monthly. "Sneaky Thieves slide from a Jeremy Enigk
melancholy to a Jeff Buckley grace, sometimes with a Sparklehorse inventiveness,
and still manage to keep a grasp on a consistent theme through to the
end." - The Big Takeover.

Snowglobe
Me and You (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE FEBRUARY 20TH)
PS, US Memphis's SNOWGLOBE plays an entrancing blend of cosmic American
music that owes as much to pioneering psychedelic country/pop legends
like THE BYRDS and GRAM PARSONS as it does to modern-day fellow travelers
like THE FLAMING LIPS. Having played together since high school, the
members of Snowglobe have a unique ability to create complex songs with
a rich pallet of sounds in a seemingly nonchalant way. The Memphis-based
band continues the long lasting tradition of playing honest music for
the right reasons. Many comparisons to NEUTRAL MILK HOTEL, and ELEPHANT
6 recording company have been made to Snowglobe, and as natural as the
comparison seems, it seems to be an easy way out; Snowglobe has advanced
far beyond this. Snowglobe sounds like MERCURY REV, the piano balladry
of TIM HARDIN, early '70s BEACH BOYS, and THE KINKS. Snowglobe is a
band that takes form past genres and pushes those influences a step
or two forward. This is a very song-oriented band. The noises and kitchen
sink extremities aren't thrown in nonchalantly; they are precise and
subtle flourishes that add texture.

from material Van Fleet developed for his honors thesis at the University

micro-symphony opening the record through the way it exercises restraint
in bringing in the horn section until the EP just cant cling to life
for another second without it, [Falls] is a record that practically
typifies what it means to sound painstaking." -Stylus Magazine

space to the duo's spatial, glacial formations. Not unlike a warm golden
calm in the midst of winter's brutal tempest, Sunken's collection of
haunting, highly textured, buzzing compositions offer security in their
encompassing presence. With the aide of ridiculously amplified electric
fan-powered organs, intercoms and voice (augmented with whatever instruments
that happen to be within reach at the time), Sunken create swampy yet
joyous sounds comparable to The Skaters, Grouper and the Double Leopards
family of sound. Melodies appear and disappear into the mélange,
while the duo channel the spirit of the sea shanty, seeking to lose
themselves in the howling ecstasies of 'the drone.'

employing an archaic attitude of tempered restraint on a fresh collection
of ten songs, without appearing shamelessly retro or kitschy. Playing
a vast majority of the instruments on "Dressed Up" himself,
by virtue Swift has created something that is characteristically his.
And considering his rough-around-the-edges exterior, one could rightly
assume that Swift desires the listener to accept him as an ordinary
honest man with some honest songs -- unmasked blemishes and all. Yet
when one engages with Swift on this narrow-road-less-traveled, one immediately
ignores the subtle imperfections shadowed by the all-consuming white
light of well-crafted pop songs in an analog heaven. In effect he's
saying, "Just listen to my songs... the riffraff in the background
is inconsequential." Sure Swift... whatever you say.

PS, UK 19 tracks. LTM are proud the present the first audio book CD

who founded the Bauhaus in 1919. The CD also includes contributions
from the school's third and final director, architect Ludwig Mies van
der Rohe, and teacher Josef Albers. All interviews are in the English
language. The music content of the CD features piano pieces written
between 1919 and 1925 by six composers associated with the Bauhaus:
Arnold Schoenberg, Josef Matthias Hauer, George Antheil, Stefan Wolpe
and H.H. Stuckenschmidt. Several of these pieces reflect surrealism
and 12-tone technique; Steffen Schleiermacher performs most on piano.

Laughin' At The Blues (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE FEBRUARY 27TH)
PS, UK A hilarious and scurrilous collection of R&B and comedy like
you've never heard! I guess most of these artists need no introduction;
I'm sure you know all about Scatman Crothers (star of The Shining and
er...Hong Kong Fuey), Redd Foxx, the outrageous Rudy Ray Moore, Slim
Gaillard, Sammy Davis, Moms Mabley and Pearl Bailey. Dusty Fletcher
was the originator of the enduring international success "Open
The Door, Richard!" (and a #2 Billboard R&B hit in 1947 for
him). The Spirits Of Rhythm included comedians George "Blues Man"
Vann and the seminal Leo "Scat" Watson. Al Jackson had been
half of the hilarious Patterson & Jackson comedy team. Little Arthur
Matthews had been the "Dope" half of the popular West Coast
comedians "Mope & Dope". He later joined Johnny Otis'
R&B revue as a singer/comedian. Otis and his band back Matthews
on these two sides. Her signature piece, comedienne Effie Smith had
a national R&B hit in 1965 with a recut of the two-part "Dial
That Telephone", recorded originally for Aladdin in 1953: this
two-parter is the 1956 first expanded re-recording for her own Spot
Records. She discovered rock 'n' roll act Don & Dewey and her son
was Los Angeles producer/song-writer Fred Sledge Smith of Bob &
Earl, and The Olympics fame. Both of them worked at Stax until the label
closed down. All round entertainer, Sammy Davis Jr had by 1949 made
a big name for himself as part of the Will Mastin Trio with his uncle
and father and was signed to Capitol Records, there he recorded fine
straight ballads.... in addition to producing parodies of the R&B
sounds of the day under the pseudonyms Charlie Green and Shorty Muggins.-
A must for serious R&B fans....and anyone with a sense of humor!

Velcro Stars, The
Hiroshima's Revenge (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE FEBRUARY 27TH)
PS, US I can hardly wipe the smile off my face as I listen to The Velcro
Stars. Their mid-90's Chapel Hill, NC-esque sound is enveloping my person
as I type this. It's certainly one of the most exciting things going
on in the revitalized (and...pssssssst.....quite "hip") Murfreesboro/Nashville,
TN independent music scene along with How I Became The Bomb, Ghostfinger,
and The Turncoats. Initially comprised of Shane Spresser (guitar/vocals)
and Keith Pratt (guitar/vocals), they began writing songs together after
high school. They were joined in 2001 by Rebekah Kidd (keyboards/vocals).
Danial Norman was a high school acquaintance and joined them as their
bassist in 2001. After going through several drummers, Andy Spore filled
the position and began playing with them in 2005. "The Velcro Stars
are one of the most interesting, original, and level-headed bands to
come out of Murfreesboro in a long time. Their songs are simplistic
and well arranged, and bring with them hints of Pavement, Blake Babies,
and Superchunk." (nashvillezine.com) Enter Grand Palace Records.
Grand Palace is an independent record store in Murfreesboro, TN. It's
also a loft space that houses a recording studio and screen-printing
shop. Owned and operated by Murfreesboro music scene luminaries, they
decided to capitalize on the revitalized scene by recording some of
their favorites (Velcros included). Thus, Grand Palace Records (the
label) began. "Hiroshima's Revenge" is the first full-length
to be released on Grand Palace Records (a joint co-release with much
help and support from Athens, GA's Happy Happy Birthday To Me Records,
who became smitten with the band after their show-stopping performance
at the 2006 Athens Popfest). With the recording of "Hiroshima's
Revenge", the Velcros finally make good on the promise of the "Heart
Disease / Shock and Awe" Demo as well as their self-titled 7-track
EP from 2005. This album is a pleasant reminder of the pure joy, immediacy,
and lack of pretension that's at the heart of all great three-chord
rock and roll. Songs such as "Brand New" and "B-Side
of Love" will make you scream with pure delight as you dance around
your living room to the pop-tastic codas contained within. "Ninety-nine

Villalobos, Gina
Miles Away (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 6TH, 2007)
PS, US Gina's nothing if not dead serious. Her music is deeply rooted
in time, place, and history. She's the real thing: an artist, someone
who can show you where you are. Hailed as the new "Queen of Country
Rock" and seemingly out of nowhere. Gina has rapidly established
a growing cult following in the UK and the US for her infectious, raw,
simply irresistible, roots rock influenced songs. Knowing when to whisper
and when to unleash, she finesses words into new meaning with the slightest
inflection. And for her live performances, where her willingness to
expose herself completely takes her audience's out of the moment, to
a place up above the chaos, alone with their thoughts. Eventually nothing
else exists...it is a truly transcendent experience. Though she's been
knocking around the music business since the mid 90's, it wasn't until
she released her critically acclaimed 'Rock N Roll Pony' in 2005 that
Gina made that all important international breakthrough, with an endorsement
from BBC radio 2 DJ Bob Harris - making the record a must have commodity.
Avoiding the sophomore jinx, Gina's second offering succeeds. She unveiled
her new album 'Miles Away' in the UK on May 8th 2006 to the same, if
not more enthusiastic, critical plaudits, and support from BBC radio
2 her acclaimed predecessor, Rock N Roll Pony received. This along with
a 6 week US national tour supporting World Party sets the stage for
her upcoming US release of 'Miles Away', which is widely anticipated
in the Americana/Alt Country circles in which she first gained attention.

Rorhat (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE JANUARY 27TH)
PS, US Brilliant 3 piece out of Chemnitz, Germany. This is hard rock.
Boris the drummer hits so hard, you won't believe that the shells &
skins can stand it! Nico the bass player creates some utterly inhuman
rumble, and then there's Andre. HIs growl is so unworldly that to describe
it as vocals would lead you astray. His voice is an instrument of terror
that makes the body tremble. For fans of all honest music

Up All The Night With The White Barons (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE FEBRUARY
20TH)
PS, US Feat. the eye-popping psychobilly singer Eva Von Slut, they play
a blend of punk & rock n' roll infused w/ infectious
backing "whoa" style vocals reminiscent of The Misfits in
their heyday. Fueled by an unholy mixture of booze, drugs, & rock
n'
roll fury, the Bay Area band formed less than a yr ago & are already
generating repeat requests for live appearances up & down the
West Coast.

Yellow6
Painted Sky (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 13TH)
PS, UK A debut on Resonant from a man with a wealth of back catalogue
on labels such as Enraptured, Darla, Bearos, Ochre, Awkward Silence
and many, many more, spanning almost a decade. Yellow 6 is the solo
project of Jon Attwood, a guitarist based in Leicestershire (the first
UK-based artist to release an album on Resonant!) who has released six
full length albums, five live albums and one remix album, on top of
several mini-albums and EPs, singles and contributions to numerous compilations.
Painted Sky was recorded between 2004 and 2006, and strips away many
of the layers of previous outings, resulting in a collection of melodic,
organic guitar and piano soundscapes backed with subtle percussion.
More ambient than post rock, Painted Sky draws comparisons to Labradford,
Cocteau Twins, Durutti Column, Slowdive, Windy & Carl and Erik Satie,
as opposed to the quiet/loud exponents; this is quiet/quiet, with an
overall air of wistful melancholy. The previous releases of Yellow 6
have established a solid following, both in terms of fanbase and press.

Black Pompadour (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 20TH)
PS, US They have succeeded in marrying their classic song-forms w/ a
brighter electric sound to make a vital album for the times. What makes
them such a singular band is how they weave such dark prose into their
beautiful melodies, a reward that the casual listener could miss on
first hearing. From the electric chimes to the pulsing synthesizers,
this dashes expectations like a bullet through a fish-bowl & represents
that rare thing amongst groups, a genuine progression. Feat. EDITH FROST
